Shoots in the 70s

Wanted to dispel a couple myths about BC. While this course is definitely one of the toughest in the area, conditioning is weak whenever there is above average rainfall (which is frequent in this part of the country) and the club staff has consistently disappointed me. The course is a tale of two sides, with the front side being a more demanding challenge with a barrage of long dogleg par fours, water on five holes, and a treacherous par 3 ninth. While challenging holes often dare the golfer to play his best, these holes bore any player looking for strategic thinking. The backside is a different story, with difficult holes mixed in with shorter, more strategic holes to interest any golfer. Memorable holes here include the par 5 second, where golfers face a redan style green with their third shots; the par 3 13th offers a seemingly easy downhill par three, but be weary of attacking the tricky back left pin placement; and the par 4 sixteenth, a brut of a hole that actually makes players think about how to play the hole.

Shoots in the 80s

This course is quite a taste and requires strong mental acumen. As a member of this course for Nine years I have seen it improve, however they do tend to over water in the summer. The course is a fun place to play and can be somewhat of a test to walk for many. I would rate it probably the fifth or sixth best private course in the Seatlle area.

Customer Service

The staff can be a little smug, they like to pretend they are another version of Sahalee, which they are not.

Shoots in the 80s

I am not a member but play this course about 10 times per year. Have palyed it sinced it opened in the early 80's. It is a tough trek that demands accurate tee shots. Greens are always in great shape in the summer. I know most of the private and public courses in Seattle area and believe these folks have one of the best greenskeeper. The course is walkable but a few holes you will climb some hills. Recently changes the sand in the traps and this has made a huge difference. If you get a chance to play it. I would rate it as one of the top 5 courses in the Seattle area.

Shoot in the 80s

First, let's be clear: This is the Bear Creek Country Club in Woodiville, WA, not one of the other 20 or so "Bear Creeks" scattered around the country...

This course originally opened as semi-public, but it's PRIVATE now. I've played it about 30 times over the years, although only 3 times since it went fully private.

From the blue tees this course is mighty tough, playing about 6,400 yards with a slope of 132. It plays a bit easier from the whites, but not by much.

The biggest key to success here is accuracy off the tee. Fairway bunkers, a little water, trees and plenty of white stakes make it crucial to keep your ball somewhere close to the middle of every hole. Spray it around off the tee and you might as well re-tee and hit three.

This is one of the few courses in the Northwest where fairway bunkers really come into play. On every driving hole except the 7th and 8th the landing area is framed by sand that you must consider in your strategy.

Greens are large, with lots of contour and slope. They tend to be a bit on the grainy side, so some putts are extremely fast while others can be deceivingly slow.

From tee to green, the course has been in "country club condition" on my last three visits. Prior to going fully private the course had a reputation for inconsistent maintenance.

Just about every hole is a challenge. My favorites stretch is number 6 through number 9. The sixth is a 420-yard dogleg left par four that plays slightly downhill from the tee. Bunkers and a large mound guard the outside corner of the fairway, and a pond nestles up against the left side of the huge green (actually a double green shared with the second hole). The par five 7th is barely over 500 yards but it's a very tight driving hole with a creek down the right side coming into play on every shot. Number 8 is a short par four that requires a layup short of a large pond, followed by a forced carry over a water and sand to a shallow green -- there's almost no margin for error on this approach shot. And the 9th is a long par three across another large pond where anything that hangs out to the right is either wet in a deep greenside bunker -- this is a man-sized par three! (These holes used to be the finishing holes, but I guess the memebers didn't like finishing on a difficult par three, so the swapped the nines around. A mistake in my opinion.)

Bear Creek is truly a championship course. If you get a chance to play, go!

Great clubhouse, nice range, excellent practice greens... but none of that matters, because we're not members!
