Shoots in the 70s

This was a thrilling course for me to play. I'm sort of shocked by some of the other reviews of this course being so poor. I found this to be one of those courses a true golfer simply can't pass up the opportunity to play no matter what the cost. The course is too hard to play all the time, but once or twice is a must!

The course is hard, really hard. I was carrying a 4 handicap the day I played it and was thrilled to shoot 81 from just over 7,000 yrds (not the back tees).

The greens were in excellent shape and were fast. The rest of the course was also in excellent shape though I was surprised how much of a sandy base the fairways had to them which kept the roll off your driver to a minimum.

The caddies were okay, not great, but no worse than at other top courses I've played. They did seem to be able to find almost every ball my 4-some hit into the heather though.

I played the 4 courses there, Irish Course (favorite) and the Rivers and Meadows courses at Blackwolf Run. All of them are must plays in my book.

Shoots in the 80s

Course is in great condition pre-PGA. According to caddie, playing at a "77". In terms of value, it's too expensive to play regularly ($300). In terms of memories, it definitely leaves an impression.

Customer Service

Very good. You've paid for it.

Shoots in the 80s

It is an amazing piece of golf architecture. To think that this course was manufactured from a rocky shoreline of Lake Michigan is absolutely astonishing... But the course condition was not up the the expectations that the greens fee set in my mind....The greens were slow; and fairways shaggy with many bare spots... My overall impression of the course is that it is a unique course with many interesting holes, but they all seemed to blend together....The only holes that stand out in my mind are 5, 17 and 18. I think it is over-priced and the caddie that I had was not much help in playing the course... It is a extremely difficult course to play and requires a lot of local knowledge to play well...High numbers are easy to come by...Small mistakes can give you a big number... It will be interesting to watch the PGA next year as the pros will be playing the course at 7500+ yards...If there is any weather we could see some very high scores.

Shoot in the 80s

Vacationed in Indiana, drove 6 hours to stay at the American Club and play Blackwolf Run and this course. Perhaps it's just a mental thing (tradition and all that) but I just didn't come away from this course with the feeling of awe that I got after playing similarly priced courses like Pebble Beach. The scenery IS beautiful. The course IS challenging. And the staff (including my caddy) was terrific. Maybe it's the fact that I've never been a huge fan of Pete Dye courses. Maybe it's the fact that I wasn't playing especially well. Maybe the caddies talking about how the Irish Course was better than this course had something to do with it. I don't know. I just didn't feel like I got the experience I was hoping for. Oh well. If you want to play the course that the pros will play in the 2004 PGA Championship - go for it. Otherwise, come to Tampa, spend the same $250.00 ($210.00 +$40.00 caddy tip,) play five rounds at World Woods, and feel better.

First select correct tees on your ability. Second ask your
caddy club differential with the wind in making your decision. The course is hosting the pga in 04. Key to the course your driver. Playing position golf will keep your score in check. Big #'s are likely. An east wind will make temperatures 10-15 degrees lower. This is the pebble of the
midwest. Greens are raw as with gorse/heather. Needs 5years
to show true colors. Late May early September ideal months.
Clubhouse styled in old English manner. A site to play, and to see when entering gates. The talk is whistling and bandon dunnes in Oregon are the future in courses to pebble and pine valley are today.
