Glen Erin Golf Club - Golf courses, Janesville,

DESCRIPTION

Glen Erin Golf Club, an 18-hole daily fee golf course opened to the public in the spring of 2003. Glen Erin literally means "Ireland''s Valley", reflecting the unique rolling terrain and the prominent vale that runs through the site. The name is also a tribute to the proud Irish heritage of the Janesville community and an affirmation of the "little bit o Irish" in all of us. This 6,806 - yard golf course will have a distinct Old Irish flavor with wide firm undulating fairways, immense greens, pot bunkers, sandy waste areas and native fescues in the outer rough. Prominent stone walls framing the entranceway speak to a simpler time, and an ancient game with a rich history and tradition. Sitting atop the promontory of a majestic ridge, the clubhouse will enjoy spectacular views of the golf course and the 18th green below. Inside, you will find an intimate Irish pub atmosphere where golfers will be able to eat, relax, and even enjoy a pint of Guinness by the fireplace.

What a fun course! The flag sticks are short as in Ireland so diatance to the green can be an adventure, but a good one. Greens are fast yet true. The fairways are soft, and the fescue is fescue.

Customer Service

Very friendly desk staff, and information friendly starters. Way cool bar with good food.

Glen Erin is a beautiful course with challenging greens and a nice clubhouse & restaurant.

The ranger took time to explain the rules of the course to those of us who had not golfed at the club before. This was appreciated.

Customer Service

Customer service is seriously lacking. At check in the man behind the counter couldn't take time to turn around to greet us and could not even remember to give us a key to the golf cart.

We were told we could drive on the course, however on hole 2 or 3, a ranger lectured us that all four wheels must be on the cart path. We had two wheels off to let other carts through. At the turn, the bar staff barely acknowledged we were there and service was terrible. We were then told that we were behind their recommended pace by 10 minutes, but no one was pushing us and when we started, no one was in front of us. On the back nine a ranger came out on 12 to "watch" because "folks like to use this hole as a restroom." He followed us the entire hole to make sure we didn't "use" the woods. Lastly, on 18, two young men came out to ask for our carts when we were 1/2 way through the hole because they were "short on carts" and needed ours. We politly told them we would be finished with the hole in about 4 minutes and declined to give them our carts.

I play several courses in the area, several times a week. Although a beautiful course, I will never go back to Glen Erin until I am sure their customer service has greatly improved. There are too many golf courses competing for the player dollar and I can go to a dozen other courses in the area and be treated like a guest instead of an inconvenience.
