Model Reviewed: Kahuku Golf Course

It's pasture golf with great views of the ocean and the mountains. You can walk it easily although there are some easy but steep hills. $26 for nine holes includes cart (hand carts only), bag and pretty nice full set of clubs. If you are a very good golfer or like the manicured courses only, you probably will be disappointed. Golfing in Hawaii for $26!! Great fun. Understand that the acres of seaside ground may be slated for a resort in the future.

Awesome beachfront views of "Bones Besch". Old graveyards and sandy beach road are O.B. but interesting places for a ball to end up.

Municipal course on the North Shore. Great price, charged $10 for 9 holes as an out of state resident. $4 for locals. Fairways were dry in late September 2002 when I was there, greens not in good shape but compared to the price of the closest courses at Turtle Bay Resort, still a good value. There is no driving range, but there was hardly anyone on the course when I went and the views were incredible. This little muni could be a jewel if they put some money into it. Definitely worth a look for the price.

Oh my. 9 hole track along the shores of North Oahu.

The greens are in terrible shape and the fairway grass is covered with sand. There's no driving range and the putting green consists of a small patch of grass that watered more often than the fairways with one hole.

The bunkers have no sand and there's inside OB's.

I almost love this place. Talk about funky! The 1st, 3rd, 4th, & 6th holes are par 3's. The 3rd is into the wind, with a "severe" slope on the right. You miss right you're in a small valley. The 4th is downhill, with the wind to a very small green. The 6th is uphill, blind into the wind. Don't hit it long or else your landing on the 3rd tee.

The par 4's you can drive if you're a long ball hitter and there's one par 5. The 9th is tough par 4 into the wind. Stay left (OB right), hitting your 2nd shot to the 1st fairway. This'll give you a straight shot into the 9th gree.

Putting is tough since the greens are in such horrible shape.
