New holes/greens well maintained . General course conditions are good to excellent. Course repairs are rapid and professional. Owner commitment to a quality golf course. Fees are not out of range ,...$24.00pp for 18 holes and a cart.

Course is built on an old gravel pit. Lots of rocks in th rough. water tends to drain quickly, so while there is seldom any casual water, unirragated areas can dry up in summer. A few greens have died due to this over the years

Although it has been it continous operation since I was a child growing up in Hinsdale, MA, it has always been an almost mediocre 9 hole course played by locals because it was close an very inexpensive to play. The original owner, William Basilier, left the course to his son, Bill Jr., after he passed away some time ago, and Bill, a tenured teacher in New York city, would operate the course during the brief summer periods.
In 1995, or there abouts, Bill retired his teaching position, and decided to improve and operate the course full time. He immediately set out to add 9 additional holes, designed by an unknown, and to improve the existing holes with a full time maintenance staff and professional turf management expertise,...and he has succeeded!
The new front nine is designed to emulate the Scottish links design of golf's origins. There are no par 5s and two par 3s, the remainder being narrow 4s bordered by steep grassy hills. The first 7 of nine play quite close together, but play into other fairways is minimized by the rolling grass rough. Very tough to play from. Most regulars agree that one is wise to leave the woods in the bag until the 10th tee!
The back nine, now, look and play like a typical New England course, with fairely wide fairways, lined with tall pines, maples and poplars. Most of the back holes are open and are more inviting to the long hitter. Although course hazards are difficult to stay out of, accurate shots will pay off in lower scores.
Tees are generally well placed and are fairly maintained. Some of the fairways , about half, are irrigated now, and the owner has plans to do a couple more each year. Finally profession quality greens maintenance, and a sod farm on the course have enabled Bas Rodge to maintain beautiful greens, fast enough for the good golfers,yet still forgiving enough for others. Bill Basilier's commitment to the course has enabled Bas Ridge to develop a reputation as a fine course in only 5 short years. The 2000 golf season was probably their best ever, with the cours eplaying healthy and well all summer and into the fall.
Bas Ridge is a beautiful and challenging course. Beginners and novices can have fun, while the "experts" challenge par. The relaxed atmosphere allows all to play and enjoy the game in the comfort of the style they are most accustomed to.
