This is considered an elite course in the St. Louis area. It has hosted a US Open, a PGA Championship, and is the site of the 2008 BMW Championship. Right before I played it, Golf Magazine rated it as one of the 10 most boring sites of a US Open, so I paid attention.

First, it has undergone an extensive renovation in preparation for the BMW Championship. This is still going on slightly with the tee boxes and fairways.

The course is beautifully landscaped, but as the previous reviewer stated, the scenery isn't anything special. There are many other courses in Missouri that will give better views and nature ambience if that is what you are looking for.

The course is very well maintained. The sand in the bunkers is as soft as it gets here in Missouri, where most sand traps are like hitting out of river beds. The fairways are still recovering from the overhaul, but should eventually be in good shape. The greens are well taken care of.

Unfortunately, Golf Magazine was right. This is a beautifully maintained course, but not a particularly memorable experience. In general, each hole is long off the tee with an approach to an elevated green which is short across the green but long in width. The par 3s are fairly routine with the big challenge avoiding water to one side.

In summary, for an average golfer, this course was enjoyable but not an experience I will remember forever. The winner of the BMW championship will be a long driver--that is what this course is set up for.

It has an upscale country club feel in every way. I found the staff helpful.
