This is the course that I learned to play golf on in the sixties. I don't remember it from those days, but play it on occasion when I go home to see my parents. I like the layout, find the greens rather quick and challenging. Kind of a typical out and back course from the wayback days.

The course changes make number 10 and number 11 a bit more challenging, as there wasn't much water on the course prior to the changes mentioned in the other review. While not a difficult layout, I find myself not scoring as well as I would like to on this course. Great par 5 finishing hole.

I remember the old barn that contains the pro shop and restaurant from back in the sixties. I have always been treated well by the staff and look forward to playing there when I am in ALLENTOWN.

It was a very nice course at one time. Actually great for a muni course. Then some dimwit got the idea that they needed new greens along with some water which doesn't belong there. The old greens were flat, small, in great shape and rolled true. You can see what the old greens were like if you utilize the practice greens. The new greens are bigger, more undulated and in terrible shape. The old Poiana greens were always green. The new bent greens are brown, burnt and never recover from aeration. Plus Poiana is beginning to overtake them anyway. The old greens were a challenge to hit because they were quite small. It really helped your short game to play there. fairways are in terrible shape now as well. More brown than green. From the black tees the course is fun to play. Around 7000 yards and it plays it. No downhill holes and only one dogleg. Course has 3 practice greens. One you can pitch to. Nice driving range where you can hit every club. My favorite hole is #3. It's a long par 5 of about 580 yards. The last 100 yards is uphill. There is a ravine about 240 yards off the tee. This is sometimes filled with rainwater but otherwise you can play from it but won't advance the ball very far. You can choose to carry this ravine from the tee or lay up and leave yourself over 300 yards to the green. If you can carry the ball 260-280 you can reach the green with a fairway wood or long iron. Fairway is very narrow however. Great hole! Course was once a par 73 which was very unique now it is a par 72. Four par 5's and four par 3's. One par can play as much as 245 yards with the flag back from the black tees. Don't play the black tees unless you can hit the ball at least 250. The blue tees will give you a challenge as well measuring about 6600 yards. I loved the course years ago but now I only play there when I am forced to during tournaments

Customer Service

good bar food in the restaurant. They make a great cheesesteak with real steak! Ranger doesn't enforce slow play so a crowded day means a 5 hour round at least. Partly due to people playing the wrong tees.
