Ping Karsten II

Summary:
My golf coach suggested that my swing was too fast and powerful for the Callaway X-12 Regular flex graphite shafts I've been happily swinging the past 4 months. I can hit the Callaways long, but I do spray balls more often than I should at my handicap. So I won an E-bay auction for a clean set of Karsten II, 3 - SW. KZ shafts, Stiff flex.

Well, it's old home week on the driving range with these clubs. I owned a set of Ping Eye 2's with True Temper shafts back in the 1980's. Played those for 10 years & then got hoodwinked into the graphite shaft cult.

Side by side comparison with my Callaway X-12's? I do hit the Callaways 10 to 15 yards longer. The Callaways feel spongey & springy. The Pings feel solid and tight. A poor hit with the Callaways feel hardly different than a pure hit. The Pings have waaaayyyyy more feel. Hit it off the toe with the Karsten 3iron and the grip will bite your hands. BAD GOLFER! Do I like losing distance with the Pings? No. Do I like having a club that clearly gives me shot feedback? Yes! Do I hit the Pings more accurately more often than the Callaways? Yes! Is the Ping Karsten II a good, Made in the USA, golf club? Yes!

Customer Service:
Ping is helpful on the phone. Ping will fix any club they made. No charge.

Summary:
I have played both ping Karsten II irons as well as ping eye 2 and I can state that the Karsten II are equal. There is very little difference and if you can buy a set do so. They are great clubs. I shot par at Spyglass with a set and 5 over at Pebble Beach. Great Clubs

Ping Karsten II 1 iron

Summary:
I stumbled upon this iron in some closet somewhere. Let me just say that I have no desire to switch to a hybrid any time soon. I hit my drive about 240 yds on average, while I hit this 200 yds, so the distance is pretty good. Forgiveness, well, not so much. I've learned how to hit it well, but it is not a forgiving golf club. Not bad for its age (or for a one iron) but I wouldn't recommend it for the average golfer.

PING Karsten 2

Summary:
Im new to golf and I have a complete set of the karsten II Green Dot 1 Iron to 9 Iron + PW & SW, My set is so old that it has roman Numerals on 1-8 but, the 9 is normal. (so, I cant get the 6 and nine mixed up on any shots.) Great set in near mint condition except the 9. it has some rock Marks but in great condition.
Total Control, within thrity shots at the range in the cold in NY last week after the snow I was able to control the 1 iron about 220 yards. its a long putter. PING never made a bad club.
