Summary: Another ball tested in my quest for distance, control on greens, and durability. So far this has been the best ball in my little quest, I would say it takes a very close third only behind the Callaway Warbird and the Dunlop Loco in distance and I would say on average it was only shorter by maybe 2 yards than the Locos. I have read where some people say this ball plays very hard with your irons but for me that wasn't the case I would say they are a little firmer than the Locos and even though I couldn't get them to spin backwards I was still able to stop them about a foot from the first bounce on my greens. The real strong suit of this ball is the durability I was able to play an entire 18 rounds and only had a minor scuff when I was finished. I'm sure someone will suggest that I buy one of the expensive Titleist or Nike balls but I'm trying to find a ball that anyone without the last name Rockefeller can afford, or someone that doesn't loose a ball on every other hole and wants a ball that the cover doesn't peel like a tomato. I will keep looking and posting my findings.

Model Reviewed: Top-flite Infinity Ideal Spin
Summary: Top-flite has advertised the Infinity balls as the softest they have ever produced, and the comparison that comes to mind is perhaps sandstone compared to granite. The bottom line, of course, is they are still both rocks. I have tried most of the new low compression balls with great success, finding the Precept Laddie the best of the bunch. The new Ideal Spin ball comes up about 15 yards shorter off the tee than any of them, and I couldn't get it to spin and stop on the greens with a 58* Purespin wedge. They might be great balls to play if you have a swing speed over 100mph. As far as I can tell these are the same balls as the 3000 XL with new logos. I read the technology hype about them, but failed to see it in action. They do have the usual Top-flite quality and will last forever and are dirt cheap, so if you can swing hard and dont mind a harsh feel they still work as well as your father's Top-flites did.

Model Reviewed: Top Flite Infinity Ideal Spin
Summary: This is the best Top Flite ball ever. It's very long off the tee. Long, but controllable, off the irons. Stops well on the greens with mid and short irons. It also chips and putts very nicely. The cover is very durable -- even when it takes some bounces on a cart path. I played one for 18 holes Sunday and it still was in good shape. I like the Top Flite Tour except that it shreds quite a bit and looks too beat up after 5 or 6 holes. The Infinity Ideal Spin doesn't spin quite as much as the Tour, but enough to stop on most greens. However, the durability is "infintitely" better. It even sounds good when hit with a driver. I've been searching for a long time for a low cost ball that didn't have compromises in playability or durability. I've finally found that ball. Great job Top Flite!!
