I am an 8 handicap with a natural draw, and hit the ball high, so I was looking for a club with a lower ball flight that doesn't have the hook-face that most drivers have (I hate that). After doing some research on the web, and demo-ing a lot of drivers, the Butler SSti sounded perfect for me, and with these drivers selling for $49 on EBAY I had nothing to lose. I bought a demo Butler SSti 8.5 with the Fujikura X shaft on ebay last year, and picked up at least 10 yards plus hit it a lot straigther, dropping my handicap index from 11 to 8. What a deal! The combination of the square face and the low torque high kickpoint X shaft is just what I was looking for. For me, distance and accuracy are better than Titleist 983 and Taylor Made R5 clubs that I have tried, and the club looks great at setup, which always helps with confidence. I am in between an S and an X shaft at 105 mph average clubhead speed; this makes it hard for me to find equipment. With the Fujikura X shaft, I can whale on it and hit it an extra 20 yards when I need to without losing it way left. On normal swings this driver goes 275 with mis-hits usually 260+. Anyone who hits a slice or hits the ball low will hate this club, but if you hit high hooks with the typical hook-faced titanium drivers on the market, this club is the best deal on the planet. Butler went out of business, and is not well known, but these are still showing up on EBAY at rock-bottom prices; you can probably still pick one up for under $50.

Best driver I have ever hit. I have 3 of them and 3 friends of mine purchased one after trying mine. Very forgiving and very long. I hook the ball off of the tee so I appreciate the squared face of this driver. Mine is a 9.5 degree and I have no trouble getting this driver airborne. Recently broke 80 3 times for the first time ever. It's easy when you hit driver pitching wedge on most holes. Get one if you can!

Well, I’ve had this driver for one year now. I played with a SS driver for years & drove 245 yrds average. Because of technology, I had to get into the game. I now average 270 yrds. with the odd 300 yarders. I mostly hit it straight, it fades well, draw’s a little tougher. I can safely say, nothing has knocked it off it’s perch. From day one, I was amazed at the consistent drives. The amazing thing is the roll & bulge actually works. Though very few now, it self corrects my ugly hits. It still goes 250+. Those 2-3 stroke saved per game means a lot to me now. I have tinkers with my equipment and have tried other drivers. I have hit some latest & greatest drivers of 2003 at 4-5 X the cost. Some will match the performance, but have not find one that will exceed it. Some people will say this squared face driver’s trajectory is too low. The main reason is the advent of the closed faced drivers – If you square up those drivers, the loft increases. It’s just geometry. I had 2 other friends that tried my driver – hit straight & long. Now they’ve bought it. For what it’s worth, find the driver that will produce the desired trajectory. Go crazy – you’ll love this driver.

I just got rid of my 983K, just wasn't right for me. I've been trying out quite a few drivers and came across the Butler on Ebay. Shoot, for $49 I decided to give it a try. I shafted it myself with a Fuji Vista Pro 70 stiff. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I did do quite a bit of research before buying. Heard good things. Well I played my first round with it yesterday and loved it! It has a very good feel, very solid. I generally hit my drives straight (meaning not a fade or a draw) and this club fits my swing well. It is made for a strong power fade or a straight driver. Not the easiest to hit a draw, but it is not impossible. Very solid feel and distance is easily comparible if not further than my 983K. Some say the club hits lower than the degree, but I think that is untrue, trajectory with my 9.5 was normal. This club is now in my bag permanently (well I guess until I get the urge to try something else). I would definitely recommend trying the Butler, you can get them DIRT CHEAP and they are very solid drivers!!

I've been playing golf for 28 years and driver is my favorite club. I still hit between 250 and 290 yds with about 80% fairways hit. First time with this driver (No driving range hits) I hit every fairway and my shortest drive was 285. My longest was 330. The best thing was that they were all in the middle of the fairway. For someone with a good swing plane and smooth tempo this is an excellent Driver. Liked it so much that I bought another one.

Model Reviewed: Butler SS Ti Driver 9.5* reg. Fujikura shaft

Let me preface my comments by saying that I bought this for such a low price that unless this club was a total disaster, I'm happy with the deal. Fortunately the club came in perfect condition, still in the shrink wrap. It was advertised as a Demo but there is not even a hint of a mark on it. It came with two Butler headcovers, the slipper and a standard leather headcover. The headcovers alone are worth the money so I guess this perfect club with this Fuji shaft is just all gravy. Swinging my Dad's Ping Tisi TEC is what made me notice this design. This club is a very high quality driver. If you match the shaft flex correctly and can swing on plane, you will be very very satisfied. If you have problems with this club, I've got news for you...your swing needs work. The bulge and roll had my drives moving on line. When the ball went off line, it was because I didn't square the face. The face on this club is not closed like a lot of game improvement clubs. Its dead square and it will go straight if you swing down the line. Its that simple. For me, getting the Fujikura Regular shaft made the most improvement because I have been swinging stiff shafts for years and I've always been in between flexes. I finally decided to scrap my ego and go with the regular flex. It cut down on my drives that drift off right. I don't see the loft issue I've read about here. My 9.5 loft performs just about like my TM 9.5 always did. The looks on this club are also impressive. It feels like a first class piece of equipment. The sound off the face is more like a traditional metal wood than that God awful metallic squink In my ERC II. All in all I like the design and feel of the club, I especially like the Fujikura shaft, and I like the two leather headcovers that came with it. I hit the club just as far as any other club, I just do so with less effort and less out of control swings. I'm still amazed I got this for $49 buck + S/H. Its an all time no-brainer.

I, like most golfers, was looking for a driver with alot of "pop", but also easy to control (the perfect driver). I don't think I'll go as far as saying the Butler is perfect, but for me, it is not far from it. My biggest problem off the tee has always been height. I hit an extremely high ball that carries 260 - 270 and dies on impact. The first thing I noticed when I hit the Butler driver was that I had a more normal trajectory and got decent roll. The feel at impact is great, the look is very nice and the trajectory is outstanding for me. The ball had tendancy to go right if I overswing, but I was able to correct that. I played 36 holes with it the first day and hit more fairways than I can remember. I also hit several 300+ yard drives with my biggest one coming on the 35th hole (about 320). The club does seem to have a smaller sweet spot than the other oversize clubs, but with the proper swing, you won't miss. I am very pleased with the club and will be using for a long time to come.

I was a little apprehensive about trading for this club because of some of the reviews. Some people were talking about how they couldn't get it airborne and how low the ball flight was. All I can say is I'm glad I tried it. It works great for me, very long (longest driver I've ever hit) and very straight. The ball just screams off the face of this club. The 10.5* is a little low for loft stated. The trajectory is probably about a degree lower. It feels very solid at impact and has a nice persimmon type sound to it. I can't take the tinny sounds of the some of the giant heads (some of them sound like a softball bat). I highly reccomend this club, it's the best driver I've ever hit and will be in the bag for a long time. If you are a decent ball striker you will love it.

It's very interesting the wide range of reviews this driver gets. It's a beautiful club with a terrific feel at impact. I extended the length to 46.5" and it is currently the longest driver I have used and one of the most accurate. The key for me was to set the club up with the face noticeably closed. I even regripped it and aligned the grip to encourage that. Once I figured that out the club is easy to keep in the fairway- even at the longer length. It's tendency is to go right, but it virtually never goes very far left. So it is very predictable for my swing.
