Callaway Callaway FT-IQ Drivers

Callaway Callaway FT-IQ Drivers

DESCRIPTION

I think Callaway has a hit on their hands with this one. Just bought it on friday and played my first round with it without practice on sunday. Very forgiving and relatively straight. Most of my straight shots seemed adequately long and as many mentioned, has a more lower penetrating ball flight then the ft-i. The sound is a lot less loud then the ft-i too and doesn't bother me at all. My mishits were a few fades and a few hooks. Now mind you the standard model that i have is 1 degree closed and draw biased, but yet 85% seem to go just perfectly straight where you aim. I was able to fade as well as straight push, straight pull. Only when i swung it overly hard and over powered it, is when i hooked it. Not quite duck hook, but almost. Never got into any serious trouble with the club though and the weighting seems really good and overall easy to control. The fubuki shaft feels pretty good, but probably not as good as the speeder in the older ft-i but still a solid shaft. Overall a very nice club, this one is staying in the bag. Thh headcover seems a little strange, a bit oversided and not the magnetic cover the old ft-i had which i liked.

I bought this club two weeks ago because of the very low sales price since the iZ is coming out soon. I have been playing the FT-i for a couple of years, so thought I'd give this a try.

After a few trips to the range and a round of golf yesterday, it would appear this is a better club in every way over the FT-i. The sound is far better; much more like a normal titanium faced club and much less clang. It is at least as straight as its predecessor and much longer. The ball flight is lower and more penetrating (a huge bonus in Texas winds) and on average I hit it about 20-25 yards longer. I usually find Callaway shafts to be much whippier than other manufacturers, but this Mitsubishi Rayon is perfect for me (although why the ugly all-white colour?). The shape looks somehow more traditional at address...not sure why,

All in all, Callaway took a good club and improved it in every way.

Just bought a Callaway FT iZ driver today & took in to the range - WOW I have never hit any driver as far or as straight, that includes the FTi & The R9 - I couldnt slice it no matter how hard I tried - this has to be the BEST driver on the market for a high handicaper like me!

Got it on loan from a pal who bought it and did not like it, it was fitted with a black looking Callaway Regular Shaft, here in South Korea, looks like it is the 2008 Model, as I understand it is now fitted with a Fuboki shaft on the 2009 models.
Have used it a couple of rounds and tested on the range a few times and my conclusions are as follow: That is definitely the straightest driver I put my hands on and one of the longest as well; but definitely it is more straighter than longer. Have been able but one exception to keep the ball in play on my drives on the korean courses within OB limits (that says something to who has played in South Korea where these are very narrowly set) for the few rounds I used it and because of that, it gave me enough confidence to really go for it and was then able to get very long straigt drives. The sound also is very satisfying unlike the hollow, tinny sound I was used with the other FT's I owned. Not convinced by the shaft which I find very weak, have ordered since a 9.5 tour version with a Fuboki shaft and cannot wait to get it. Being so straight I do not believe such a driver suits a low handicap player but more a mid-high handicapper, but again I tried the 10 deg version which is 1 deg toed in, the tour version might (and will probably) suit a low handicapper.

I got the club at Dicks sporting good and wanted to try the tour version but the guy insisted that i would be fine with the regular version since they did a little analysis. I brough the club to the driving range and wanted to cry due to the amount of money i spent on this club and couldn't hit a straight shot at all. i have a natural draw and with this club it was a Super draw! After going back to the driving range all week and a few adjustments like holding the club lighter and fixing my stance the ball never flew straighter and longer. The length of the driving range goes 265 yards. I was crushing it to the top of the trees passed the 265 yrd sign. It took about 150-200 swings to find out how to hit this club. I love it now!

Very nice looking, sounds great too. I had tried the Diablo draw and was hitting fantastic. I then was hitting the ft-iq and was hitting great at first and bought it. After playing a couple rounds I find myself fading every shot with this club. Went back and replaced the regular shaft with stiff and still fading. My other clubs seem fine, going to exchange it back for a diablo. I think if you have a tendancy to slice you might want to look for something with a draw bias instead, still seems to push slightly where the diablo was very straight with even a slight draw at times.

Model Reviewed: FT-iQ Tour Driver

This driver is incredible. It excels at hitting the ball straight as an arrow with piercing flight. I used it for the first time on the course today and it was very forgiving. A couple of drives I hit towards the toe with an open face and they still went 270 yards and stayed in the fairway. I can't wait to practice hitting more draws and fades with it since it's so accurate. You won't be able to maneuver it like the FT-9 standard club head design, but it is workable, just a bit more difficult. This club is designed for "straight", and it delivers big time. It looks fantastic at address. The club head and loft look appealing which creates confidence on the tee box. You feel like it's going to go dead straight just how it sets down. Another thing that I like is when you swing the club it feels like it holds the plane well. Swinging it feels really good and at address it looks easy to hit. Great performance overall however I noticed I lost some distance off the tee (10 yards or so) but gained huge accuracy. This is most likely due to the shaft length, nothing to do with the club head. It is very expensive which sucks, but I got mine with the Callaway special promotion that includes a free Callaway 3-wood for an extra $1.

Model Reviewed: new FT-IQ 10degree R shaft

I like the look and feel but the heavy head on a Regular shaft promotes a fade.

I bought the 1 deg closed driver to help correct a slight push to the right swing plane. After 110 practice shots, still a struggle to keep from fading the ball. I think the for slower swing speeds like mine (88-92 on driver) the stiff shaft may be a better fit as the 60 grams regular shart acts more like a senior or ladies shaft. Advertised as straightest and longest but not really that long and not easy to hit straight - at least with my slow tempo swing.

WOW, WOW, WOW!! This is a great driver and Callaway claim it hits 35% straighter and take it from me it's all true. I am the most inconsistent driver of a golf ball that ever walked the earth! I have a whole cupboard full of Drivers that i liked for a while, but then bang i can't hit them anymore.

The Callaway is a sits well behind the ball and has a very satisfying sound at impact. The ball jst goes straight or maybe a slight draw when you swing it harder. I have hit this around 600 times now between the range and the course so i can honestly say this is the best i have ever used. Great work Callaway. When are you bringing out the 3,5 woods!

I'm 14 and 5'4", so I hit this at a local Edwinn Watts and loved it! It's much lighter than the normal drivers used, and I also liked the shaft. Accuracy is excellent, and you dont lose distance. I usually hit it straight-ish, but I hit this club dead on. I would not recommend this club to a person who is fighting a hook, because it is slightly offset. My average drive sprung from 200 to 240, just inside five minutes of use. Kudos, Callaway!
