I've played several drivers,i.e. Tour Edge Exotic, Callaway BB 2004 Ti, Callaway GBB II (380cc), Taylormade R7 and R9. They are all good but GBB II (380cc) and the original TEE drivers are my favorite. I heard that GBB II 415 is also good so I eBayed one for 34 dollar plus shipping to try it out. Took both 380cc and 415cc GBB II drivers to a local driving range for a real test. I can hit both of them very well, one is not better than the other. I can hit them better than any new design/technology (Callaway FT iz, Callaway Diablo Edge, Taylormade R9, Nike, Mizuno). So, if your swing is fundalmentally sound, you don't need new technology. My friend still plays his Taylormade R7 and he can crush 270-280 out there

I have been Callaway drivers for years
this one is one of their better ones.
Mine has an Aldila NV65(stiff, factory installed),9deg.loft.
This driver is solid & forgiving,
mis-hits go a long way.Nice
mid-high trajectory.It would probably
suit most players, however the NV65
may be a little stiff for some.

Customer Service

Callaway customer svc. is quite good.

Model Reviewed: Callaway GB 11, 415, 11 deg.

Bought it from Golf Galaxy. Needed a driver to replace my Snake Eyes 600T due to un-optimized distance and a nagging fade. Paid $175 for the Callaway.

I did two test sessions about 3-4 wks apart and found that several drivers where giving me an average of 6-10mph more ball speed than my 600T(depending on the driver). The results from the two test sessions confirmed my research regarding my lack of distance with the 600T (230-250yrds with the occasional 260-270yrd on what would feel like an absolutely perfect swing and good roll out!).

Just as important i noticed that i had to put a better quality swing on the 600T to get it to stay straight without fading (just like on the course) when compared to drivers like the Cleveland Launcher 400, Mizuno MP001 400, Nike Ignite 400+ and Callaway GBB 2 415.

I went in planning to buy a new Mizuno MP 001 but actually spent more on my like-new pre-owned Callaway GBB 2 415, 11 degree because of it's increased consistency of flight path and ball speed. The Callaway GBB 2 415 11deg was consistently 2mph faster with its ball speed(144-146mph, my maximum ball speed has been 155mph) than the Mizuno(142-144mph) which was about 2mph more consistent in ball speed than the Cleveland Launcher and Nike Ignite. I hated the FEEL of the Ignite btw, it felt muted and was very hard for me to tell were I hit the ball at on the club face, yuk! My Snake Eyes 600T ball speed average was...132-134mph with two 136mph strikes and one 138mph on what felt like my best swing of the entire test. Clubs can DEFINITELY make a difference!!

The other drivers like the R540 and R580xd, Cobra's and a couple of others that I can't think of right now averaged between 136-142mph for ball speed and had similar fade like my 600T.

What I Like About The Callaway Great Big Bertha 2 (415) 11degree: No More 15 yard FADE and I am FINALLY getting the distance that i should be getting for 107-112mph swing speed (270-280yrds). That's 30yrds more than my 600T gave me for distance on average and it STAYS STRAIGHT!!!

This driver hits on a higher launch angle than my Snake Eyes 600T did (even though the 600T was 1/2degree higher in loft!), and the face feels much hotter like the ball is launched from a cannon and every ball feels buttery soft! A mis-hit (thin) gave me 260yrds and the occasional toe hit stays straight and gives between 250-260yrds. Anything within a 2/3 circumference from the center of the face gives me 270+yrds! My "bad" shot now is a draw.

The shaft is a Harrison Striper J Firm Flex and it seems that it was properly re-shafted according to Harrison's requirements. The Harrison Striper is a low kick point shaft that uses titanium filaments in the construction to minimize shaft lead and lag. The torque rating is low and the shaft definitely feels firmer than my Rifle Flighted 65 Stiff. I had cut this down to a driver length of 44.25" so it played even stiffer than the advertised torque rating.

The increased ball speed and decreased side spin seems to be coming from the head , but the awesome consistency (ball striking)and playability seem to be coming from the shaft. With some of the drivers that i tried the shaft definitely seemed to not agree with my swing, repeatability wise. Some strikes would be center cut but others would be toward the heel or low or high or towards the toe for what felt like comparable swings. This is what caused me to continue looking for something else after i had whittled my selection down to the MP 001(which I had originally planned to buy anyway).

What a blessing! With the new found distance I now consistently have shorter clubs into the greens which helps to increase my GIR percentage, putting me in better position to lower my scores (even with my, hmmm, shall we say, barely adequate short game, LOL!). Now if they could only do this for my chipping and putting I could actually shoot in the low 80's consistently!!!

I am a driver junkie. I have tried them all...TM R5, Callaway X 460, Titliest 905.... I found a BB II 415 with a MFS 58+ Orange shaft for sale price $99,The club just fits my SS 95-105.
Driver is very consistent, slight fade, but can work ball either way. I dont claim 300+ drive...but I will carry the ball about 230, with Roll up to 260.

Customer Service

not used, although Roger Dunn has a great reputation.

Wow... That's what I felt after hitting it, seeing my drive and hearing the smack. Just two months ago, I started to play golf again after 10 years of not playing. I'm still getting my game back and it's been a fun. I've been using an old Callaway GBB from 95. I always had trouble with sliced drives. This new driver didn't even slice. In the beginning I had some hooks but with some adjustment to the grip I was launching the ball. With my old driver, I probably hit around 200 to 220(if it went straight) but this one definitely added a good 20 yards and I wasn't even trying hard to hit. If I was hitting it 20 yards longer without really swinging at full power, I can't wait till I start to get used to this club. And defintiely, I can't wait till I take this out on the course.

Customer Service

I've always been happy with Callaway products.

This model may be a few years old, but it was still and upgrade from my TM 250 Supersteel. I wanted slightly more cc's without going Fred Flintstone. This one seemed to setup the best for me. It came with a Pro Lite stiff shaft and with my SS around 108 it works fine. My longer drives with the TM would be around 270-290, with the Bertha I really did not gain yards I just gained consistancy. That is what I was looking for. I have more confidence at the tee to just grip and rip. The only thing I am re-thinking is the 10 degree verse the 9 degree. I have the 10, but think I should go down to the 9 with my SS. Over-all great club with a unique sound for sure. Not as bad a sound as the Cobra's.

Model Detail: Great Big Bertha II 415 with 9* loft and a Graphite Design YS 6 Stiffshaft (factory installed) My swing speed is right around 100 mph and this shaft seemed to be too stiff for my liking. But even when I went after it and hit it on the screws it just didn't seem to go. In short I traded it in on a Big Bertha Titanium 2004 with stock RCH firm shaft and am very happy gained 15 yard's on average and 20+ on good hit's. My recomendation is to try the BB Titanium 2004 before buying any other Callaway Driver. although I would like to try the BB 454 but there still too much $.
