Decided to try out some new drivers since I never found consistency with my Tom Wishon driver. Went to a local course and demoed the Cobra 460 SZ, Nike Sasquatch, and TM R7 Quad. The Cobra setup the best followed closely by the TM, and the Nike was absolutely attrocious. At first, I hit the TM the best because I was a little stiff. When I started to loosen up, the Cobra was far and away the best in distance and accuracy.

I had to switch to a one-plane swing a few years ago because of neck and back problems. Since then, I've gained distance and accuracy, and it's almost impossible for me to slice, though I can hit the occassional snap-hook (rarely). What I found with the R7 is that it forced me back to a two-plane swing, as if I had to intentionally slice the ball in order for it to go straight. My normal swing produced a snap-hook almost every time.

The Sasquatch is a very ugly club, and most everything went straight, but not nearly as long as the Cobra.

I found it difficult to switch between the R7 and the Cobra since it forced me into two different swing styles. But when I finally settled into a comfortable groove with the Cobra, WOW! Everything went exactly where I was aiming with a nice draw, and about 30 yards past my intended target. It was extremely easy to feel confident in this club, and I've never felt so fluid and relaxed while striking a ball with a driver. When I tried to go back to my old driver, everything sprayed left or right, and my confidence was immediately lost. I've already ordered this club, and it will be here in a few days. I'll hit my 3-wood until then.

Bottom line, if you have a problem slicing off the tee, or your swing is more mechanical and two-plane, I'd recommend the R7. If you can draw the ball consistently, and/or your swing is more fluid or one-plain, I'd recommend the Cobra. If you want an average driver with flashy looks, get the Sasquatch.

This club is simply amazing. I bought this club based on feel, distance and accuracy. On all of these catagories this club excelled. I tried it out on a launch monitar to see if it suited my proper launch angle and how the club face reacted with the hits. On miss hits this club gets as much as twice the distance than my old driver. I hit the ball a long way with a fast swing speed so in those mis-hits that part was crucial for me. As for the slight draw bias it doesnt seem to affect it much. I can hit a big fade if i like to no problem you just may need to hit it with club face open slightly.

Well, I've played some rounds with this beast, and while I'm still uber-satisfied, I'm not as high on it as I was when I wrote the last review. Every now and then I hit the occasional moon ball. I've found that although I'm not very comfortable teeing the ball down on my drives, it's a must with this club! I still occasionally hit the weak fade or the pull slice, but my flight is usually straight down the pipe. I haven't picked up as much distance as I was hoping, but I've accepted the fact that the distance problem is more my problem than any club's problem. All in all, I am completely satisfied with this driver, because I know that my driving issues are swing issues, not equipment issues. The more rounds I play with it, the more accurate I become. I hit 11 out of 14 fairways yesterday on a ridiculously windy day in Orlando at the National Course at Champions Gate, and I know that with my old driver (TaylorMade Burner 420) I would have never been able to post those kinds of numbers. This driver has made golf much more fun for me, which is kind of the point of playing in the first place!

I've been playing with a TaylorMade Burner 420 for about 5 years. My normal shot was a either a high, weak fade or a low pull slice. I carried the ball around 235 - 240 with another 5 - 15 yards of roll. My driving was pretty accurate and I felt very confident with my driver, but I was very disappointed with my distance. I decided a new driver was in the stars. After demo'ing several different clubs, the Cobra was the driver for me! I bought the 10.5* with the obnoxiously green Aldila HL 60 regular flex shaft. I took the driver to the range the day I bought it and again last night to see if the other day was a fluke. OH ... MY ... GOSH!! This driver is longer than long. It's stupid long. I have never hit drives like these in my life! My biggest complaint so far is the closed face. At address, I feel like I'm going to duck hook the ball hard left. But, when I swing normally and in control, the results are phenomenal! I might take the club back and exchange it for a less lofted driver. The combo of the 10.5* with the HL 60 shaft seems to have a tendency to balloon. I have two rounds scheduled in the next three days, so I'll post another review after I see how this baby performs on the course.

Thank you Cobra! Brotha from anotha motha, if you ain't on the Cobra Soul Train then get on it homies! Dis club is da domb! No seriously, this driver is the best I have ever hit, bar none. This driver puts every other driver ever produced to shame. Personally, this driver produced results far beyond anything I thought was possible. This club is so hot and long you would sware someone was shooting a golf ball. The feel is totally solid and you'll turn heads with the awesome bang this club makes at impact. You simply have to try it to believe it. So get on it brotha!

I'm not going to BLAH BLAH about my game like most of the reviews. This is a excellent club. I build and have used many drivers and quite frankly, there really isn't a bad one out there. Everbody has the knowledge how to build good stuff using exotic design, materials and high end graphite shafts. This head and shaft combo is designed to have long carry and with a draw flight. You can fade it if you have the skill. It mostly goes straight down the middle. It has a closed face of 2 degrees. Try it, you will most likely like this friendly club and it is handsome as well. I purchased one at Fiddler's Green in Eugene, Or for 179.00 new last week. You can Google it if you are not near. Cobra has moved on to their new models for 06 so pick one up cheap. I advise to hit one first if you can... it may not be for your swing. It is just a club.

I wanted to write a review for this club partly in homage to this web site and the people who contribute to it. I was playing a Callaway BB 9 deg and although I'm long off the tee I noticed that the bigger head drivers were more consistent and my worst case effect when I really leaned into it with the older BB was a strong slice that often got me in trouble. I tried a number of drivers at the local pro shop and was pretty much convinced to purchase a TM 580XD that someone had upgraded with a high quality shaft. I hit it straight and long and if anything was surprised to find a little more hook on the off hits, but mostly straighter and more consistent hits. I like it better than the r5. I tried other makes and models including the different cc Clevelands, TMs, Ping, Titleist, Callaway. I liked the Launchers, both the 400 and the 460. It was while researching customer reviews here that I came across the Cobra 460 as a driver almost universally praised by the contributors. So, very contrary to my normal buying habits, I got one online and took it cold turkey to one of the local courses that's got wi-i-ide fairways without a lot of vegetation penalty. What I discovered over the last two days is that the Cobra is very long. I averaged around 270 with my drives and had one monster that I shouldn't really count because it hit the cartpath (two bounces!) and ended up about 370. The reason it hit the cartpath however was that it carried more than 265 in the air. I had more drives in the fairway, had a few errant shots that sliced, and I pushed a few harder to the left.( I was playing alone, hit 2, or 3 drives /hole when the spirit moved me). I noticed that I got very good results when I hit off center and somewhat high and outside on the face which means that the sweet spot is huge. What I really like is the solidity of the impact. It's a pleasant and noticeable "Blink!" sound when struck---it feels solid. There's no vibration through the shaft; it' almost as if the club is doing a lot of the work that I previously felt I had to do to make it happen with the BB.The only complaint I have is that I was often looking at under a 100 in, and for me that's a crapshoot as to which wedge and how hard to swing. I felt I ought to hit lesser drives on the par 4s to have a better approach distance. Again, in thanking those who have written here, I took the suggestion some advanced that the Advila NL 60 Stiff is a very good shaft and I must agree. I also got the 9 degree and I've already learned that I can hit the ball higher or lower trajectory if I need to. The interesting thing to me is that offset face that looks as if it's a bad hook waiting to happen but if hit normally encourages a straight shot. First thing I found out is that I don't have to kill it to get some decent distance, and the type of ball is as meaningful to distance as clubhead speed. The more active balls definitely go farther. When I really tried to smack it, I still got good results. I did notice that I could tee it up just a bit more toward center of stance and the same swing motion yielded a straight hit. A good driver all the way! Is it better than the G2? The Callaway 454? The Cleveland 460? I don't know but I'm happy I found this one. Thanks, guys.

Model Reviewed: Cobra 460 SZ 9-degree

Not to sound like a recording...but this is the longest and straightest driver that I have ever owned. Traded a Taylormade R5 (Draw model) in on the Cobra. Just couldn't hit the R5 consistently well under pressure. (Play alot of skins games.) It had the stock regular shaft in it and I couldn't stop hooking it. Open the face up and it would push to the left. (Left handed, mind you!) So, after a another round of climbing rocks, out of arroyo's and beating off the snakes (live in Arizona)looking for my ball, I just had to get rid of it. Tried the Cobra on the range and hit a bucket of 75 balls. Every shot went straight. Sold AGAIN! (It's amazing how on the range, with no pressure, all of the shots go straight!) Anywho, the real test was on the course...Once again, all shots went long and STRAIGHT! Hit 12 out of 14 fairways. (my fault on the two missed fairways..tried to hit impossible drives over trees.) (Don't believe that old saying that trees are 90 percent air.) Anywho, this is the best driver that I have owned. Got the 9 degree with the Aldila NV regular shaft. This shaft is a little stiffer than most stock OEM shafts offered by the major clubmakers. Now when I stand up to tee off, I do it with confidence.. Instead of holding on for dear life and hoping not to hear the ball plink someone's house or a rattlesnake rattler.

this is one fo the easiest drivers to hit. i have tried this driver out numerous times on the course and always hit it straight. i've even let some of my friends try it who can't hit their drivers at all, and they just pure this one. i think this is the perfect driver for anybody who has trouble hitting a driver. the stock aldila hl shaft that comes with it is perfect for slower swing speeds. i just think cobra did everything right with this club. can't say enough about it.
