without question the best driver I have ever hit. Longer then you think, can spray sometimes but if you are lucky enough to get one cheap your a fool if you don't.

Model Reviewed: 454 Comp 9* Mitsubishi Rayon Stiff

I hit the ball pretty straight. If you are hitting straight with your irons then you should look elsewhere. This driver is for pull, fade, slice type of action. With the Closed face it makes alignment very tricky. The sweet spot indicator is overstated. I've hit many a ball with a nice smooth tempo that should have been long but looked like bad contact when I checked where they hit I could see they were off center but still well within the smoothed off sweet spot. The mitsubishi rayon actually plays stiff. The ball flight is very high for a 9* so learning to hone in your ball flight is definitely a long learning process. I'm looking to replace my 454 comp with a Mizuno MX 500. It has a hot face and keeps you right balls under control. If thats what you need. Perhaps I'll keep it for those periods when I take a long break...

Great driver. at sea level I drove 310 metres (340 yards). I am a 22 handicapper. off centre hits go as far as 240 metres at sea level.

At 1500m altitude my drives pitch at 250m. Squaring the club head is still a bit of an issue as my previous driver's shaft was 1 inch shorter with offset. will get this right soon.

I just returned from a course and want to tell you that the club is great for average golfer!!! I used to hit right and left, slice and hook... However, once I hit with this Cobra King Cobra 454 Comp, it goes straight!!! Every shot, it goes straight even with misshot. I believe my swing is not improved; yet, it goes straight!!!
Need more to say? If you have a problem with slice/hook, go with Cobra King Cobra 454 Comp!!!

I used to be a Callaway guy but once I got this magic driver, I will stick with Cobra!!!

I replaced my 440 SZ with this one and even though it is the same brand and similar in appearance, the difference is huge. It did not ad much in length (I used to drive loooong with my 440) but damn it is straight! Amazingly easy to hit with. My first round using it gave me 13 perfect drives and one slightly sliced. Never happened before..

Long Long Long Driver!

Not exceptionally forgiving but has added 25 yrds to my drives but not hitting as many fairways as I'm use too!

I play off 7 and some of my mates off handicaps of between 13 and 18 struggle with this one. Again they are longer with it but very inconsistent with accuracy.

I am a short hitter and have been searching for a long time for a driver that would give me extra distance since my original TM 580.

TM R580XD, TM R5, TM R7 425, Nike SQ gave me no noticeably increase in distance with the Nike being the shortest but straightest of the lot.

In summary, fantastically long but a little wayward.

I like it!

I would not recommend this club. I work in a pro-shop, and am fairly familiar with equipment. I have had a personal experience of the composite crown cracking, and have heard several similar reports. Mine cracked after one year of use. In the meantime, it was a good club, long and draw biased. I was just greatly disappinted that the crown gave out. Especially when it hasn't been skied.

Customer Service

Cobra's customer service was impressive. They replaced my shaft with a brand new one (even though it was an after-market shaft). They replaced the discontinued 454 Comp with a new HS9.

Outstanding distance, great feel, find the right shaft and this club hits a mile...well maybe not quite. I have tried them all, Ping G5 (hits long, shot despersion is wide(maybe the shaft) Clevel XL Hibore (over-rated), Titliest 905R (excellent, solid club, but expensive),FT-3 Callaway , Cleveland 400, 460 (liked 400 better) and Exotics (also a great club, but expensive)

Since the old man demanded his 430SZ back from me (the short loan had extended to 7 months) I have been trying just about everything available, but mostly concentrating on the Cobra's, TM's and Ping. I thought a needed a blatantly offset club until my coach gave me a specific lesson with my driver and turned my ultra evil power slice into a gentle fade. I'd heard a lot about the 454 Comp and thanks to my addiction to all things ebay I was able to pick an excellent condition specimen for only £80.00 (about $140 I think)
The difference was instantaneous and dramatic. Immediately I put 30-50 yds on my drive and the more confident I get the further I'm hitting it. In the past I was glad to hit 200ish and stay on the fairway, now I expect to hit 250+ everytime and I can almost pick my spot, give or take 10 yds or so. Dont get me wrong, the other clubs I tried were great but this just had a little something else. I do think personal preference comes into play when things are that close. I'm now not aftraid to reach for the "big fella" and my first round saw me post my first ever sub 90 score, which I think is ok since I only picked up a golf club for the first time 7 months ago. My fellow players have given me some grief about "unfair advantage" - I told them to put their hands in their too long pockets and sort themselves out.
Note Ive given the club 5 stars as I know I got a bargain, full ticket price of £250 is a little rich I think.
