in fairness to cobra here's the update. it took a little over a month and i have finally rec'd a club from cobra to replace the broken 290 ss. it was replaced with a 454 comp. After a few rounds, I'll write a review on the 454 comp.

contrary to other reviews on this club, I would not walk away from it, but run away. The first six balls I hit with this club were very long and straight, the seventh was a different story. The club made a strange sound, and after a quick inspection, the club had a cracked face. Within eight days I had a brand new club in hand - cheers for cobra customer service, this time. On the fifth hole of the second round using the new cobra, same thing, cracked the face. So far, it has been 29 days and I'm still waiting for another replacement.

this is absolutely the best driver i have ever hit, and ive hit a bunch of them. sound of club takes a little getting used to, but can overlook it since ball goes straighter than any driver i have ever hit. personally i dont like the larger headed driver, seem to have trouble sqaring the face consistenly. regular flex stock shaft seems to be a great fit for me. this might be one of the best keep secrets out there. would highly recommend to any level of player.

After 1 round of play I have a good vibe about this driver. Used it at the range and then on 3 or 4 holes the following day. I've heard complaints about the sound, actually I kind of liked the sound. Makes a "shquack!" sound. Immediately you can tell where on the club face you hit the ball. The sweet spot is as advertised. That's why I really like it and the shaft fits my swing well. I hover around 100-105 with sometimes fast tempo. At 9 degrees the ball has a penetrating ball flight but gets up higher than I imagined it would. My other drivers are 10 and 12 degrees. Distance is not as long as my other 2 drivers which I average between 250 and 260. With the SS 290 the distance was around 10 yards shorter. When comfort factor sets in I think I should be able hit it as far and more importantly in the fairway. This driver does not stray too far from the fairway. It's a very managable club. If you want to smash it with total abandon this is not the club. Don't get me wrong, distance is good. It's just that I'm not a long ball hitter. If you want to play in the fairway I'd highly recommend this club.

Bought this club second hand (AS NEW) from the pro shop because the previous owner didn't like the sound it made. Well I soon got past the louder than normal sound when I looked up and saw my ball flying down the centre and even better when I walked way past the 150 pegs and pulled out pitching wedge for my approach. Better still on the next 496m par five when I hit 250m + then hit it off the deck to be beside the green for 2. This club added 30m+ to my drives and is forgiving, helping me to "Hit in the 80's now!" Suspected it was something special when I hit just short of a 285m par 4. Nothing not to like. Hit the ball, finish your swing, pick up your tee and enjoy watching it sail Looong down the middle. Now if I could only putt!

This driver is great. It is extremely long and accurate, I find that it is hard to hook or slice the ball. The worst you can do to it is push it. The sound this driver makes is the strangest I have ever heard. Basically, a metal trampoline. I would recommend this to anyone who shoots in the 80's and under.

This club is an amazing value. It is basically a Titleist, as Titleist owns and makes Cobras, so you know its good. It performs wonderfully, and has a great sound (which causes everyone on the range to turn and to see "who hit that shot"). A great club.

I purchased a Taylormade 420 about a month ago. And just have not been able to hit consistently with it. I picked up a BB II three wood a few weeks ago and love it. Read the reviews on the BB driver so thought I would give it a try. Well things did not work out. So I figured I would try some other clubs. Tried the Callaway Steelhead III first and really liked it. I hit probably 90 percent straight and long. Then I tried a Ping i 3. It was very inconsistant. I saw this one sitting there on sale and thought what the heck lets give it a try. I hit every ball, probably 30 or so straight and long. My son who is in great shape and a very long ball hitter did the same. We were both very impressed. I picked it up and tried it out on the course when we got home. After one full round I still have not hit a bad ball with this club. Needless to say I am very happy.
