Model Reviewed: NVG2 Tour

I picked this up in great shape on Ebay for $55. Has the Aldila NVS 55g S flex. This is a really great driver, and for the price... a real no brainer. It is VERY long, right up there with the longest I have hit. I like the more square face of the Tour... ball flight on my 10* is just fine, has enough forgiveness unless a very wild swing is used (as I like to do sometimes), and looks great too. The sound is a bit like the dull thud of the Callaway Ft models, but not bad... and when it blsts off long and straight, who cares about the sound? I am not a big Aldila fan, but the NVS 55S is just fine in this. I also got the #3 wood NVG2 with a V2 S flex, and it too is a great stick... same price. These are so nice I might have to pick up a set of the NVG2 irons, as they are dirt cheap now too, although I love my Nickent GH Plus irons with Pro Force 75 S flex...

Model Reviewed: MacTec NVG2 Draw 460 Reg 10.5

Excellent, excellent club. The shaft feels really smooth; the ball powers sweetly off the club face, and long. Always struggled with a slice; this gives me a variance between straight and a controlled fade.

Tried a few drivers over the last year (all regular, all 10.5) to try and replace my old, much loved (but now illegal) cobra 440sz unlimited. This is the club to do it. Longer than the Cobra by about 15-20 yards (can only assume the shaft). Very forgiving on a mis-hit, very controlled flight. Really gives me the confidence to swing nice and easy through the ball.

The club looks good (not too flashy - ideal when you're still a bit crap) , and appears to be well made. Like the way Macgregor appear to really design all details - the grip is different (rough, so easy to grip), the shaft is proprietary, and the "cup-face" is a great idea. All the tech is for a reason; doesn't appear gimmicky. Of all the other clubs, the Hibore was the straightest, just 30 yards behind this baby.

Model Reviewed: macgregor mactec nvg draw driver

Like any avid golfer, I tinker with my gear, but when something works well i will stick with it. This mactec draw driver is LONG!. The cup face 360 is not a gimmick. I was pretty accurate with this driver, and I have a natural draw anyway. Even on mis-hits, it goes pretty good. I cant say this driver will totally reduce a slice but im sure you will not be disappointed. You can find these on ebay for under 100.00 bucks. It is soooo worth it! do your self a favor and get one of these drivers for the upcoming season. I am playing the stiff shaft, but from what i have noticed, macgregor shafts tend to run on the soft side. I just had it re-shafted to my specs, and its a KEEPER.

Model Reviewed: NVG2 (not Draw or Tour) 10.5 S

I purchased this driver a year ago and had taken it to the range several times but was never impressed with it's performance compared to the other drivers I currently own. At the range my FT-3, 905t, and G2 all felt better and seemed longer then the NVG2 so I just never put the NVG2 with the stock stiff shaft in the bag for some real course time, that is until now.

I've since played 4 rounds in the past two weeks with the NVG2 and must say that this driver is the real deal. Today's round I missed ZERO fairways and all but a couple were in the exact spot I was aiming. As for the distance it's hard to tell due to it being WINTER here is Western PA. The carry is 240-250 with NO roll. I found my ball plugged on nearly ever drive. Overall the drives were a 20-30 yards short of my mid-summer drives with my FT-3. I'm hoping that the NVG2 gets the same type of roll when the ground firms up.

P.s. The yardage that I give is measured with my Bushnell, shooting back to the garbage can next to the tee box.

So to sum it up, this is by far the most accurate driver I ever hit. There may be a few longer but not by much. I will gladly give up 5-10 yards for every fairway hit. And then I really don't think there will be any real distance difference once dryer weather arrives in a few months.

As an added note, I have had the original NVG and although it is long, it's just not as good as the NVG2. Not the same accuracy.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor NVG2 Driver

I use MacGregor M455 V foil irons and wanted a driver to name match. I researched the NVG2 driver and found the cup face technology to be an interesting concept. I found a set of drivers for sale on e-bay. One was the original NVG (11.5*) and the other was the newer NVG2 (10.5*). They were both used but in excellent condition and I got them both, for about $80.00, which is about all I wanted to spend just to try a different name driver which has the same loft angle and shaft stiffness I was already using.. Both drivers have the standard regular shaft. My 90% swing speed is between 95 and 105, depending upon the day.I must mention that I am sixty-three years young and only seriously took up golf about 3 years ago. Every year I have managed to drop 4 or 5 strokes off my handicap, which was 24 earlier this year but is quickly approaching 20. I play at least 9 holes 3 times a week. With my old 10.5* driver I was getting fair distance (about 210 -220 yards) but the dispersion was not consistently attainable. The NVG2 has allowed me to greatly narrow my dispersion and has added almost 30 yards to my average drive. The sound coming off the driver is that metal "tink" sound but I really do not mind the sound when I see the ball land in the fairway as often as it does.
This is a very nice driver. I plan to buy another NVG2 but one with one more degree of loft for those days where there is no wind (I live near Chicago). In general,my swing (even with my driver) has the tendency to be just a little down at the ball, so I inherently need a driver with a little more face loft to get the ball to the launch angle I want. Most players would not need that additional loft. The older NVG driver I obtained, does not seem to perform as well as the NVG2. For me, it appears the face does not quite get to the close position I need and that in turn, puts a little left to right spin on the ball. I like to hit the ball "stick straight" at this stage of my game and the NVG2 gives me that, even if I am off the center by and almost an inch.
In closing don't be afraid to try one of these NVG2 drivers. The prices are really good on them now. If you are in the same handicap situation I find myself in, it might just cut a few strokes off for your handicap by letting you hit your second shot, from the shorter grass. Good luck and enjoy every shot you hit. (learn to laugh at the bad ones because you learn nothing from the good ones).

Model Reviewed: Mactec nvg2 draw 10.5* stiff

This club is a huge improvement over the original mactec driver. Sound, looks and performance are all much better.Don't be fooled by the "draw" tag on this driver - yes it will straighten fades out and it is easy to hit a draw if you want to but it will not correct a slice. Once you get that thought out of your head this is a great club to fade off the tee. Distance is up there with other top end drivers and cup face technology is not a gimmick - mis-hits are still respectable in distance and direction. The stock stiff shaft is not as whippy as the Mactec nvg but still plays more like a regular. When your swing is on this is very much a fun club to hit!
