I have been useinf a r5tp then tried a m42 and was shocked. The ball speed was 10mph faster and that resulted in a carry of 240 with a roll out in the 250 to 260 range. THE REAL SUPRISE WAS THAT ONE OR SHOTS per round that a perfect and the carry was 260 to 270 clearly 15 yrds better than before. The other suprise is price and quality! At 40 bucks on ebay and a GD YS6 shaft what a buy. Drivers are real personal but this is the best I have run into.

I purchased this club off from eBay for $35.00 shipped NEW! I have never hit a driver so well in my life. I am consistantly out driving my father in law with his brand new Taylor Made. Quality is superb. The noise is loud, but I love it! I would recommend this club to anyone. I think that for the money there are none better!

This driver is superb value for money as i picked it up for £49.99 brand new from my local direct golf. For that steal of a price though, you get a club that is easily as stylish and well built as expensive drivers. i had been using a nike SQ for a while but what i like about the Mac is the solid head shape that sits perfectly square at address. As others have noticed, this driver does make quite a noise when struck well, but I find this comforting. As for distance, this driver is comparable to the nike but gives a better, mid trajectory ball flight. Miss hit shots still fly reasonably straight but are down on distance. Overall though, it is hard to fault considering the price, andhas replaced my nike driver, for the mean time anyway.

Customer Service

Only annoying thing was the charge of £4.99 for the matching headcover. You never used to have to pay for it, so i don't see why direct golf have introduced this policy. I would rather the club cost £5 more so as i was not left with the bitter feeling that i had been ripped off.

Model Reviewed: M42 11* Stiff YS-6.1

This is great driver for those on a budget. I found this on E-Bay for $30. The nice YS-6.1 Graphite Design shaft alone is worth more then that. I have a swing speed well over 100mph, so when I connect, it goes a long way. The problem is that this is not the most forgiving club on miss-hits. However, everytime you hit the sweet spot, it's worth every penny. In short, this is a great driver for those with a consistent swing. If you still tend to slice, work on your swing first, then look for this bargain.

I picked up this club and didn't even need to stick to basics. I could just grip it and rip it...straight. I'm only 14 and I hit it 250 yards without barely any roll.

Picked up this driver with NV75 shaft for $75 new. Was using Hogan CS-3 w/draw bias but as swing has improved, started to lose it left so wanted to try a neutral set up and loved the same shaft in the Hogan. I play MacG. 565 irons which I LOVE and their equip. is real quality so decided to give this driver a try. I used it a few times and thought is was decent but nothing special went back to the Hogan and its same beefy shaft but didn't trust it because of the occasional lefts. Picked up an Orlimar HTi with the lighter NVS55 shaft which I liked pretty well. A week ago decided to give the EyeOMatic another shot. Wow--do I love this thing now. Just pick out your line, relax, trust it and swing with a nice smooth swing and bingo, loooong and straaaaight! For me, this fairly heavy NV shaft is awesome and really encourages the smooth easy tempo. I've never driven the ball so consistantly long and straight. Looks great to. I'm a huge MacGregor fan. Too bad this brand doesn't get more love but it's some of the nicest quality stuff out there.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor V-Foil Eye-O-Matic M42 Driver

I recently purchased this driver at Dick's Sporting Goods for $80. I had seen the exact same driver for three times that price in other stores, so I decided to buy it. As soon as I took it out on the course, I noticed a great improvement in my ball's flight. All my shots went higher and farther, and I was surprised to notice that they also got a good 20 yards of roll. It was very forgiving, and as long as I struck the ball anywhere on the large "eye" located on the sweet spot, I wouldn't lose any yardage for hitting it slightly off-center, and the ball would fly straight. However, I noticed that on severely off-center shots where the ball was struck outside the eye, the club was noticeably unforgiving. I am a 15-16 handicap, so this doesn't affect me very much, but this would be important to know if you don't usually hit it on the center of the club. I have played 6 rounds with it, and I can't be happier with it, especially for the price I paid. In my most recent round, I made 13/15 fairways and averaged about 255-260 yards. I have never hit the driver that well in my life.

The club I bought has 10 degrees of loft, but it plays as though it had 11-12. The ball launches much higher than my previous driver, a Taylormade 200 Steel. It comes with a great YS-6 shaft, which retails for a good $60-70 by itself. I would highly recommend this club to a decent golfer (below a 36 handicap) golfer who wants a nice driver without having to pay an arm and a leg.

Having played intermittently for about 12 years on only Par 3 courses and pitch and putts, I recently (finally) got the bug! Not wanting to rush out and buy brand new clubs, I started off by buying a cheap second hand set of irons with 3 and 5 woods that I couldn't hit! The problem being of course, that I'd only ever hit a 5 iron and below.

Piece by piece I've added to my collection of golfing gear, mainly using ebay and picking up bargains. I've been meaning to have lessons, but up until now a few tips from a mate and a read of a Jack Nicklaus illustrated book is all I've had.

As confidence grew I decided it was time to try a driver. This is the one I chose, mostly based on price and looks. It was around £35 on ebay.

For a couple of days I tried it at the range. At first I could only just about clear my hybrid 3 iron which I've been striking very well. I had some problems with slicing it as well.

Today however, whilst on a 9 hole (par 35) course something clicked and I hit the ball pretty well. My best drive being a very straight shot up hill travelling in the region of 220 yards. That was a sweet feeling, but pity about the next 5 shots it took to get in the hole!

The club has a big face with a target eye. It can be a little unforgiving if you miss this eye, though my experience of it, is that my worst results usually come as a result of me trying to put too much oomph on the ball. With a nice steady swing the club performs well (though I suppose this could be said of almost any club - If you have the ability, they're all going to perform pretty well).

I like the sound it makes. It is very loud, but in a way, it gives me confidence.

I would suggest 5 stars for value as this club is a bargain at the moment. 4 stars overall, as I'm sure there are better clubs out there.

As an aside, who are these guys shooting 100s yet telling us they drive 300 yards? I simply can't believe that. I'm touching 215 at best, that is with a good full swing and a fair bit of weight behind the ball.

I bought this club barely used off of eBay for under $75. I'm a pretty big guy and can hit the ball far, and wanted something a little more name-worthy than my previous RAM driver. I've had the club for 6 months now, and have had good and bad experiences with it. It's not as forgiving as toted on Macgregors site, but when you do hit the eye the ball flies pretty well. I can hit over 300 easily with this club when my swing is on. When it's not I get a lot of high slices and duck hooks. One issue I've had is that the face gets marked up pretty easily. I can see marks on the face from good drives I've had 10 rounds ago, and no ammount of washing will get them off. I have no complaints about the shaft or grip, other than I should have gotten a stiffer shaft, but that's my problem. My dad, who has a much slower swing speed hits this club great, so that might be the problem for me.

what a driver loud that it is but I can take the sound with the distance this driver gives. has to be the head shaft combo. I can nail this baby just about every time I hit it. can also work ball either way with not much effort. just proves you don't have to spend 500.00 on a driver to play good golf. got mine new for 99.00. shaft would cost you 89.00 anywhere you buy it.
