Absolutely fantastic Driver. I was using a Callaway Great Big Bertha and found that there was always too much room for error. Since changing to a 10.5 degree Mp-001 I have added approx. 30-50 metres in length and very rarely not hit straight out of the middle. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a descent driver without that fanfare of big name brands.

Model Reviewed: Mizuno MP-001 460cc 11.5º

I have used the 11.5º MP-001 460 for 9 months now and am so happy with it that I'm looking for a used back-up. My model came with the stock regular flex shaft. I have been using 11+º drivers for some time now and this one suits me the best. I am a "hitter" of the ball and the shallower face promotes more of a sweeping swing than with the deeper faced drivers that I have used. The flight is more boring than most high lofted drivers that I have used. There is little if any distance loss when compared to most 10º that I have used. With my 88mph swing I can consistantly get 240+ yards at sea level and have increased my fairwasys hit by about 20% with the 11.5º loft. At less than $100 used this driver is a bargain!

ok i have an updated review from my previous review now after more use...i am actually (believe it or not) down to mid/high 70's but i don't like the club as much...i usually play a fade but this thing slices...mis hits are absolutely terrible...i hit some other drivers like the genex 3dx and it doesn't slice at all...it fades a little at the most and it is just as long if not longer and is more forgiving when it is mis hit

This is one of the best rated clubs on this site for good reason. The ball comes off the face VERY hot, and with very little spin. The trajectory is very boring and mid/low. The club is easy to work in either direction. The only reason I didn't keep it was because of the forgiveness. Prolaunch shaft is a very good combo with this driver. One of the best driver values on the market for golfers of any skill level.

what a stick, have the striper tour 70 stiff flex harrison shaft in this cannon. ball flight is great mid to boring with tons of roll, can draw it a bit but mostly goes straight down the middle....hit this baby 400+ yards, guess your reading this huh???? just wanted to sound like the rest of the folks on this site. just kidding actually carrying the ball right at 270 quite pleased with the performance of this club

Model Reviewed: MIZUNO MP-001 460 cc driver

I've played the MP-001 10.5 degree with the NV-65 stiff shaft for over one year. It is an absolutely delicious driver. The set-up is very clean and allows for a lot of confidense on the tee. I've always been able to hit it long, but I can now actually keep in the fairway. I play with some very strong single digit handicappers during my end 0f season trip to MB each year. I am now proud to say that on the 27th hole ( after about 12-15 beers ) that I am the MAN they count on getting that last drive deep in the fairway during our scrambles.

Customer Service

I haven't needed it with this driver, but Mizuno has been very customer friendly with their other producst that I purchased.

Great club. I am 15 with a 100 -110 mph swing speed. Mis-hits go 235-240 yards, an average hit goes 250-260, and a flushed hit right on the sweetspot goes 280-300...but no i dont claim to hit "300 yard drives" all the time. I have just hit one or two and all the other hits on the sweet spot were about 280 to 290 which I will definitely take espescially since I'm 15! When you hit the sweet spot it goes straight as an arrow. Feel is very good. The trajectory and shaft is good. The trajectory is mid unless i tee it up a little higher...then it is high. Accuracy is good...when it his hit well it goes straight...can slice and hook though when not hit very good...but it has pretty good forgiveness...i'd say it's more of a players club though...even though I'm not that good!

Bought 10.5 460 w/Graf Prolaunch stf. Average of 278 on indoor range/10shots w/long carry of 288 w/302 rollout. Ballspeed 176mph-could go to x and keep ball flight down somewhat. Also bought an 11.5 on sale w/Excar stiff shaft to play around with. Cracked the head on the 11.5 and returned to Mizuno. Thats where the problem arose. Great performing club(accurate, long as any out there, and playable for lower hcps). Just disappointed at Mizuno for not standing behind their product like TM. Being a higher swing speed these things tend to break on occasion.

Customer Service

Mizuno would NOT replace a cracked head on this driver(cracked where graphite crown mates w/the ti face. I would have to put them on the back of my wish list now when I look for gear. I think some companies just get too big to take time to deal with anyone but the touring pros.

* I live in Utah so please concern the ball distance what I am talking is about 10% farther than sea level distance. * 43 years old, 5 8’, 155 Lbs, HC4.7 (in 2005). My swing speed is around 113 mp. I have purchased Mizuno MP-001 460cc 9.5* with Aldila NV 65 stiff around 4/05. I used to use Titleist 975 D 8.5* with Harmon stiff. (+) My golf game immediately improved after the purchase because of the consistency and distance increase of driver. I started HC10 this year. This driver contributed so much to my game. First of all, I believe that 460cc head is definitely the way you want to go. I used to hit 280 yds with the Titleist but I started hitting 300~310 yds with a whole a lot more fairway keeps. So much easier and still you can have some control into it. Second, for my swing speed this NV 65-S has been working very well. The NV got torque 3.5 and I feel it is matching with my swing speed and as HC5 player. Lower handicappers may want to have a lower torque shaft. I get more crashing feeling and sounds. Hitting sound is low and hard. You will get used to and soon you will like it. I attended four of corporate tournaments this year and one of my co-worker (HC 7) used my driver several times in the tournaments and he (and I) was so impressed with the performance of the club and soon he started to search 460cc NV shafted club. Unfortunately(?) he bought Ping G2 with NV 65-S shaft. I do not like the sound of it at all. Very high and thin. He cannot hit the G2 solidly and consistently neither. I have been beating him with distance and fairway keep all the time. (+SUM) Amazing distance gain, consistency. Straight or nice little draw. Recommend the Aldila shaft. (-SUM) It seems harder to fade/slice. I don’t like the head cover. Hard to put on. * It is less than a year old. Now I see a crack on the top of the head. It is between the body and face (not the carbon top). I installed the shaft because the original NV was busted. I have sent to Mizuno but because the shaft was installed by not Mizuno factory the warranty was not able to cover it. If you experience the same please let me know. This is a great club but it may have some problem … I wonder. Send me an email for any questions along with the club.

I went into Golf Galaxy looking to try out the 400cc model of this driver based on reviews posted here. I was lucky enough to find a demo of the new 460cc model (before it was even on the market!) instead. This thing is an absolute monster. I have the 10.5 degree head with an Aldila NV 65 stiff shaft. The face is square, which was essential because I naturally move the ball from right to left. The club sets up clean; it doesn't look as big as it is. It's meaner than Ping's G2 and G5, and in another class completely from the Taylor Made R580. I still have my share of mis-hits, but they are longer and much closer to the fairway. Despite this extra forgiveness, the club still lets you know each and everytime you miss the ball. This club is probably going to fly under a lot of people's radar, but if you're in the market for a driver, make sure you at least hit this one, because it's really tip top.
