TaylorMade R5 Dual TP Drivers

TaylorMade R5 Dual TP Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The R5 dual TP's deep clubface increases the chances of creating "vertical-gear effect," which promotes a higher launch angle and lower spin-rate for added distance. TaylorMade's exclusive Inverted Cone Technology expands the driver's COR zone to promote greater ball velocity on off-center hits for consistently longer drives.

I just picked up my fitted dual 5 with a Fujikura 350 shaft. I have played a Taylormade 540xd for the last 5 years. Played my first round and hit 12 out of 14 FW! This was having never hit the club. The head is the "D" type and I heard nice drive++ and you were textbook with your driver today. I just swung it and found 10-15 yds more swinging full. The course has a hole with a very narrow cut through some trees at 150 off the tee. The idea is to go over and I easily carried the trees. My two FWs missed were hard duckhooks, when you catch the ball at the inside edge of the sweetspot, it turns hard left with the draw weighting. Next outing I'll try to work it lower and a little draw roll. I had a good straight ball going and played it. I love the club!

I have owned many drivers in my somewhat short time playing seriously. I've been a long time Titleist carrying golfer. this is the second taylor made driver i've owned. the first was the R510. this is by far the most accurate driver i've owned. i have the set-up of the weight config as: 6g in the heel, and 1g in the toe. it seems light, but i have the Grafalloy Bi-matrx Proto Stiff flex shaft tipped 1/2" and plays at 44.25" and it still swing weights at almost a D3. it really helps with my pull slice swing. now the ball flight is straight to slightly tail-offs. but the accuracy and confidence on the box has me touting this driver. yesterday was my 4th round with it, and i played a 514yd par 5, and i hit driver, 3 iron, and came up just short of the green. was a bit chilly too. also played a par 4 415yd. hit driver, PW. this is not explosive distance, but it gets out there. i don't have tour swing speed, i'm pretty average. i only hit my 5 iron 185-190 yards. so i hope this helps you when assessing the quality of this review. it's not super long, but it's accurate. accuracy counts for a lot in this game, as you know.

This driver was just OK. Not great and not horrible either.

The good part about the club was the moveable weight. You could adjust the trajectory with a couple easy clicks on the wrench and new weights.

The overall performance of the club was decent. No where near the longest driver I've ever used but somewhere probably in the middle.

Forgiveness seemed to be ok as well. Balls struck not in the center still travelled a good path but lost distance as expected.

I wasn't crazy about the sound, but that is just a personal preference thing.

Overall, I would say that if you are in the market for a TM driver, give the dual R5 Tp a try, it may fit you better than it did me. You can get them fairly cheap on eBay.

This is the best driver I've ever hit. Awesome line drive trajectory, forgiving, great feel, control, it has it all. The heavier Diamana shaft is perfect and much better than the stock shaft in the regular R5. The stock R5 REAX shaft ain't this shaft. So perfect, that I'm having my 3 wood reshafted with it and bought the hybrid with the same shaft. This club changed my game. It can be had brand new with the weight kit and wrench for less than $175 on ebay. Best deal on the planet. Take some time with the weight kit to perfect your performance. I ended up with a draw bias at slightly less than the factory weight. Very solid.

bought this club used at golf galaxy
hit it pretty good in the simulator, about 265 carry, and it rolled out pretty good. its a neutral but i had a nice little draw. got to the course and everything is way left. it has the stock x stiff shaft. i like the weight of the heavyer shaft and i still hit it pretty high, but i think im going to go to a stiff shaft, with a low launch. overall this club feels as good as any driver ive hit, i would recomend it to anyone looking for a good deal

Model Reviewed: TM R5 TP 10.5* Diamana 83 reg

I bought this driver last summer and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I play with stiff steel shafts in all my irons and hybrids, but decided to try out Reg. in the R5 because my buddy bought a TM r7 with reg shaft and it worked perfectly for him. We had his r7 shaft's frequency checked out, and wouldn't you know it, it wasn't a reg, but right in between reg and stiff. I had mine checked out as well, and it's the same scenario. Bottom line is, the shaft is the engine of your club, so make sure you are getting the right one for your swing, and don't trust that "R" or "S" sticker on it, get the CPM's checked out. As for the over all performance of the R5, it's the best driver I have ever played. Perhaps not superlong, but very forgiving. Last weekend I hit 11/14 fairways! Nuff said.

Model Reviewed: R5 TP 10.5 - Diamana Stiff

My experience with the club so far is twice on the course and a few times on the range, but I'm very impressed so far. Just a very solid feeling club. Really nice sound at impact, not high pitched and tingy like many big heads. My other driver is a Cleveland Ti460 w/ Pro Launch Blue in 9.5*. I'd say the two are about the same in distance, but the Taylor Made feels much better overall.

Definitely can feel the changes in shifting the weight. When you get too light (say, 6 gram total in the two slots) it doesn't feel quite as solid.

We'll see how it performs when I'm in a competitive environment, but so far the straightness has really impressed me.

And one of the best parts, they can be had easily for under $200 brand new right now. Tough to beat.

R5 dual tp w/ Diamonte 83 stiff; LH 9.5*

Purchased this club last fall in both regular flex and stiff. Definately preferred the stiff even though my swing is probably in the 95 mph area...stiff was longer and straighter for me with more solid contact. Both R5 TPs with standard weights (12 gms total) were about D5-D6 which is a little too hefty for me. So I experimented with the removable weights and found that by removing 6 grams total, the club was easier to swing, felt better at impact and went further/ straighter...I have 6 grams in the heel slot ond 0 grams in the slot closer to the center. Club turns over very nice and sw is down to about D1-D2. Love the diamonte shaft and the balance. Club feel and sound at impact is very satisfying...no loud metallic noise here, just a very solid feel at at contact. I personally like the look of the R5 TP at setup...and the deep face. Even though this club is in the 450cc size range, it swings quite fast. Can't imagine a better driver in the $200 range. My pervious driver was the taylormade 320 tour w/ proforce 65s shaft so adjusting to the TP was very easy...simply a matter of getting the weight/balance of the R5 TP similart to the 320 tour. Can't recommend this club highly enougth to anyone who prefers a little heavier club. Note: even with some weight removed in the head this club in stiff is not to stiff for a 95 mph swing. My TP came at about 44 3/4" standard and I like to choke up a little bit. Even so, the shaft has nice feel and is not to stiff...I'm 57 and drive the ball an honest 230 yds...not much more unless wind aided, down hill or the the ground is hard...don't know what else to say, this is one sweet club.

Model Reviewed: R5 Dual TP 10.5*

I picked up this club for $230 @ Golfsmith... it's probably the best $230 I've spent on my game in a while. The Dual TP shipped with both the very spiffy TP headcover and weight kit.

I choose the Mitsubishi DIAMANA 83 shaft in a Stiff Flex. This shaft/clubhead seem to fit my swing very well. My previous driver was a R540XD w/ regular stiffness stock shaft. It served its purpose well until I started working on my game a lot last year. A whippy Reg shaft and closed face are the enemy when your problems change from going right to going left.

Personally, I think the R5 Dual TP w/ Mitsubishi 83 Stiff in it rocks. The square face and stiff, low torque shaft has really improved all my drives. I will still occationally cut or pull a ball. but even those are closer to the target line. The "TP" moniker doesn't seem to impact the forgiving nature of the R5 Dual standard clubhead. And it is longer than my R540XD, but until I get a couple of add'l rounds in with it, I'll abstain from any "it's 30 yards longer than " BS.

Like a couple of the other reviewers, this is my first driver with adjustable weighting. It's nice to be able to warm up, then tweak the club depending what swing shows up that day. With only 2 weights located closer to the center than edge, you can't "fix" a bad swing with this club, but you can move things around enough to help with a slight cut or hook.

The club looks great, the TP logo really sets both the clubhead and headcover appart from the Standard R5/7 drivers.

To summarize, this is a great club for someone that has a good swing. The TP's sqaure face and shaft selection will be a drag if going right is your problem. If you are still working on your game, give the standard R5 Duals a try and you'll love them.

This club has to be the best driver out there. I bought this club back in october for 300.00 with the diamana shaft with 9.5* of loft. The day I bought it I went golfing had a great day with the driver. On the first hole i pulled out the driver i hit a 295 yard drive right up the center. The next time i used the driver that day i hit it far but not in the short grass.I was using a nike sq with 8.5 v2 shaft but just wasn't getting what i wanted so then i got the 905t with a v2 shaft and still not what i wanted. i was looking for a driver that had a really good shaft the wouldn't balloon on me. I tried many different high kick shafts and i would balloon the ball. But when i tried this driver it was perfect. Im still gettin used to the perfectly square face because of being a tp driver but i love the results so far. I may not have the scores of the pros but i can still play their equipment.
