The Taylor Made R580 XD consistantly proves itself to be a superior driver. It's technology is not the latest but can certainly perform with the newer weird looking drivers. Stay classic with the Taylor Made R580 XD if you want a solid driver than has a balance of forgiveness and workability, and by the way, sounds great too.

When I broke my old Callway driver, I decided to keep up with the times and get a big-headed driver. Let me first say that I am 15 and on the golf team at my high school. My swing speed is around 105 mph, my handicap a 19, and I shoot in the mid 90's consistently. My driver choices were between this, and the Callaway Big Bertha. I decided to go with the TaylorMade, and it was a good choice. At first, I kept shanking the ball to the right, but it was the first time I had played after a serious illness(pneumonia). On the front nine, I shanked it and hit it around 160 consistently. On the back nine I had a mental improvement, and my game changed. I started playing like I normally do. But not my driver. Man, I was cranking those balls. I easily was hitting them around 210-225 consistent, with a bullseye straight hit. The club also put a moderate amount of spin on the ball, which would carry it about 10 yards more. I also had the control, so I could hook or slice it around the fairway to fit my needs. I definitely need to workout and get a longer hit though. However, the only thing I dont like is the sound at impact. Unless you hit the sweet spot, it makes a dull metallic thud. Not pleasing, but it is forgiving. Sweet sopt sound is fantastic. I don't believe these people that say they shoot in the 90s and 100s, yet they hit drives 275+. not right.

Anyways, I would go for this driver, especially since it is cheaper now. Go for this rather than the r7 or any other driver.

I just bought this driver today, and have been playing for 1 year. I bought it at Dicks Sportinggoods for 130 b/c the set i got the Acuity GS1 last year he said was good clubs except for the driver. tried it out on the course, shot a 51 on the back nine of a course. It took a couple strokes off, shot it straight everytime, far maybe 230 compared to the old driver 175. Its easy to hit I love it! if you a begginer and you can get this for a cheap price this will definately help you game.

The best driver I've played so far.. If its good enough for Mike Weir and Fred Couples in 2006 then its good enough for me in 2007.

Its almost like cheating its so easy to hit, the face sits comfortably square and does not worry my hook with off set at address. Its a strange feeling driver but after the first round i was in love. I have the low torque, firm tip, stiff MAS shaft, because my swing speed is around 110mph, the combination is perfect. Its also the longest driver I've hit. Longer than my R7 HT and Titleist 905t. Although not as workable. The ball flight seems to be primarily straight, although i can work if i have to. Paid $150 Canadian dollars brand new and Im still kicking myself.

I love this driver. Been using it for two seasons. Have tried the R5 Dual and the R7 Quad ... the R580 is much easier to hit -- more control and more foregiving.

And, you can pick the R580 up real cheap these days.

In spite of all the latest leaps in club technology (by 2007) this driver model continues to be an absolute bomber. In fact, several pros on the TM staff had to be pressured to change over to the R7 to promote new model sales.

Launches high with low spin. Mine is a 9.5 degree with an X shaft.

With due respect to the R7, this driver is a TaylorMade classic. Can be obtained at a modest cost. A great value.

This thing is awesome. For my game is the best driver I have tried. At first I didn't like it because with such a big head, it puts a lot of lateral torque on the shaft and you can spray lots of shots with the stock shaft or a weak shaft. If you tend to put any type of load on your driver, you have to put a lower torque shaft in. It took a little while to find the right combo with a shaft, but paired with the Aldila NV-75 shaft it beats any driver I have tried. The club is very powerful and has great feel and sound when you hit the sweet spot. I like this club so much, I bought another one with a different loft so I can use it for different days.

Very nice driver. I got this driver, to be honest, because of the name and price, but after adjusting to a large head driver, I can't imagine going back to hitting my old Titleist driver. This driver is very forgiving, which, with my handicap, is extremely important.

This is a great driver. I've never hit a driver as consistently well as I've hit this one. I can literaly hit it right where I want to. My only problem is that I can't get any roll with it. All my distance is carry and I feel like I should be able to hit it a bit farther than I am. I recently switched to a UST V2 stiff shaft and I think it's too stiff or something, cause I feel like I've lost more yardage with it. Still goes straight though.

I have read all these reviews and all i can say is wow!!! I think most people think they can just buy a club and go out and hit it. Some can but there is a thing about getting your clubs fitted. Everyone out there is not a standard lie player. I purchased the R580XD last year with still with factory shaft, off the shelf it wasnt bad, but as soon as i got it fitted 1 degree flat it was a big difference. I can make that ball do anything i want. People on here saying they cant get the ball to work for them just might be able to know how to work the ball. Well there is my beef and please look for me in 2007 on the nation wide tour, i will be the guy playing the TM TP R580 driver
