Model Reviewed: R580 9.5, stiff shaft

once i learned to slow my swing speed a little and play with better tempo, this driver has become practically automatic for me. it is very forgiving, even on mis-hits. i've never used it with an aftermarket shaft, but i've been pretty happy with the stock mas shaft. however, with the foregiveness of a large club head, there are some drawbacks. i don't think this club is really made for those who want to grip it and rip it. the club head produces a fair amount of drag, which will reduce club speed. if you swing in the 110 mph range, you probably would be better off using a driver with a smaller head (perhaps r540 series if you want to stick with the tm 500 series) or at the very least, change the shaft to something more appropriate for that kind of speed. on the whole, i'd recommend this to any mid to high handicapper looking for a driver that combines foregiveness and good length. considering that this model has been out for a while, i'm sure you could find a very good deal on ebay for one of these.

This club hits like a ton of bricks. I have used many drivers in my time, but this gets a good 20 yards on the competition. If you can afford to give it a test drive, I give this club my complete endorsement.

Model Reviewed: TM R580 9.5* regular (the conforming model!)

This is a solid driver..............................nothing more to say really. I love the way it sits behind the ball, the dark blue is great, and the distance it knocks the ball is good. If I have to knitpick, then I would say the factory made shaft, the M.A.S.2, is not the best in the world. I might get a custom shaft for it eventually - the only thing stopping me is the fact that is has a medium tip on it, which suits my swing ( in-between stiff and regular), and I keep sending my drives long down the middle.

Model Reviewed: R580 9.5* Stiff

I don't play as often (or as well) as I used to, so I needed an easier to hit option than my Titleist 975d 8.5*. Searched around and read opinions/reviews for most of the popular clubs. Eventually I ran across the R580 at a local sporting goods store for $149. Couldn't pass it up, and I'm glad I didn't. Took it to the range and swung both my old and new clubs. The R580 was obviously more forgiving and 15+ yards longer. Even miss-hits weren't penalized like I was used to. I have always hit everything high, even my 8.5* Titleist (sometimes an uncontrollable balloon). I hit the R580 a controllable, more desirable height and am getting back a little bit of the roll that I have been missing. If you are looking for a great club to hit that is long a forgiving, save a little dough and put this baby in your bag. For other reviewers: It would be handy if you would put the loft and shaft flex on your reviews.

Model Reviewed: TaylorMade R580 Stiff Shaft 9.5'

I'm fairly new to golf, been playing a little over a year, and haven't been spending a ton of money on equipment, so when I saw this for $129 I had to try it. It is a great driver for the price. Everyone says to upgrade the shaft, and I may try some time. Overall, the club is pretty forgiving, and has helped drop quite a few strokes off of my game. This is a really good driver for the beginning golfer, costs a little more than a cheap-o, but definately worth it.

Purchased the stiff shaft on the recommendation of the pro and it was a mistake. Traded the club in for a regular flex and got much better results. The stock MAS2 Shaft is not the greatest. Bottom line, great head, lousy shaft. Even with the regular flex you really have to go after the ball.

The R580 is a very sweet club. It looks and hits perfect. The stock MAS2 shaft was exactly to my likings, and the balls were no match for the 400cc head. The ball was blasting off the face and booming down the grass. Made a nice solid sound and feel, always long and strait. The only 1 time I thought something was wrong was when sparks shot up after one of my drives, but the rest of my drives didn't seem to be effected. It was pretty cheap at 179 dollars, but felt like a 400 dollar one. Even on large mis hits it soared strait. I hit it like 210 yards evry time with it, and I am 13. This will help because I am on the high school varsity team. Definatly get this if you want a perfect titanium driver. Take my word for it.

Customer Service

well they had some recomondations for me which was helpful and helped me find the perfect loft and shaft.

Good club head.. don't count it out simply because it's $300 cheaper than the brand new drivers coming out (G2,Comp 460 yatta). Infact that's what makes it such a good club. I've tested over and over the XD,R7, but they are all just as "hot" as each other. Only thing I recomend is DITCH THE MAS2 SHAFT. Horrible shaft, I had so much spin on my ball, it'd baloon a mile high and actually backup on the fairway. Switched to an Apache MFS 75 S-2 and haven't looked back since. Much better ball trajectory and control.

Model Reviewed: Taylormade r580 driver

I purchased the taylormade r580 driver in mint condition @ $179.99. I found the stock shaft to be mildly disapointing and the grip to be a little fragile, although i felt the driver head was optimal in both distance and accuracy (i purchased the 9.5 loft driver). The head is at 400cc. I would suggest placing a .350 tip graffalloy blue shaft on this driver. I decided to put a .350 tip graffalloy blue on the driver and i trimmed it down to 44 1/2 inches ling for increased control. I then put a new g7 grip on the club from winn golf. After these modifications i was extremely pleased with this clubs performance. I consistantly bombed drives 270-315+ in the middle of the fairway. I recommend this club but i do suggest these simple modifications.

I've tried and tried to hit this driver, but to no avail. I find it to be very dead feeling on most shots, as though I'm swinging a coffee can with a shaft attached to it. My TM 360 I was previously using was a far better driver I think. The 360 seems to have way more feel, and I hit it probably 20-30 yards further off the tee.
