I'm a high 70's to low 80's golfer (on nice, tough courses), and have always played Titleist drivers. I find that only bore through drivers with hosels work for me. I traded in my 2 old drivers (983E 8.5 w/ProLite S and 905S 8.5 w/Aldila NV 65 S) plus a few dollars to get this club new. Great decision. I should have gotten this setup instead of the Aldila in the first place, but I thought it would be too stiff. The 8.5 Aldila had a flight that was as high as this 9.5, without as much strength to it but with more sidespin. This one flattens out nicely at apex, the 9.5 gets it up quicker and with almost no sidespin. Then it carries just as far (straight), and rolls farther (still straight). So if you're fighting a balloon ball and sidespin with lower lofts, this is your setup. You just need swing speed to make it crank. Don't worry about missing. This club is the most forgiving Titleist driver I've ever played (but I won't play 460cc, so no 907D2 for me.) That is its real advantage for players who like Titleist drivers.

Customer Service

Great. They know how they made these clubs to play and will talk to you about which setup is good for you, swingweight, balance, shortening, tip trimming, whatever. They know what it means to "better players" trying to shave those last few strokes, and they don't want you thinking about their club on the tee box.

I recently owned a Wilson deep red driver. I hit this driver on average 270-280. I could reach about 320 on a roll if I took away my mechanics and just swung as hard as i could. This did not prove to hit many fairways. I recently purchased the 905S and i love it. I don't have to give up mechanics to get more distance, I just make a smooth normal swing and it flies off the head! I can carry this club about 270-280 also, but it goes right down the middle everytime whether i miss hit it or not. Even on a miss hit the ball will only go about 10-15 yards shorter.

THIS CLUB IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

I tried this club out from a buddy of mine's bag and liked it okay. No, I didn't hit it 300 yards or carry 260 yards like it seems everyone on here who reviews does. After watching the British Open this past weekend, I find it extremely hard to believe that "Joe Golfer" surfing the internet and writing reviews on sites such as this has such a high prevalence of 300 yard drives. It's a joke, actually. And a huge indicator of how ego driven most men are.

At the British Open Tiger Woods had the highest recorded Swing/Ball speed at impact on hole #10 where they were doing the radar testing. Swing speed was just a little over 120 and his ball carried 270-280, rolling another 35-45 yards depending on the landing area.

That is the fastest, best, purest swing in the game hitting it a max of 270-280 in the air. I have a seriously hard time believing most of the reviewers on here hit the ball within a few yards of that.

I'm 36, athlete my whole life. Swing speed is legitimately 100-110 on a good day and 95-100 on average. Straightaway fairways on my best day are 260-280 yard drives with the occasional 300 yard drive.

Get real guys. You're here to review a club, not boost your egos. If you need it that bad; buy a carnival mirror and stand naked in front of it.

Model Reviewed: 905s, 9.5 deg with Speeder shaft (stiff)

I've never felt compelled to post a review, but the 905s with Titleist Speeder shaft is the real deal. I liked it OK at the range last week, but had it SST Pured yesterday, played 18 this morning and had my best day off the tee in years. I hit driver on 10 holes, found 8 fairways, and averaged 290 yards even though this is only 44.25" (my swing speed ranges 114-118 mph). I much prefer the 905s's neutral weighting over my 983k's and it's more forgiving than my 983e. The trajectory is just perfect, I can't say enough about this driver. If you're a player and are 110+ mph with driver you have to pick one up on Ebay ($130 for this one) and give it a shot. I expect to hit this even better after a couple more practice sessions. I'm not a "honeymoon" club guy, it usually takes me several rounds to work a new club into my bag.

I tend to agree with many of the other reviews posted in relation to this club, probably except for some of the comments about the titleist speeder shaft.

I'm by no means a long hitter - driver speed around 107-108 plus or minus 2 or 3 depending on how well I'm swinging, which equates to around 260 yards in carry plus roll. I have found the 905S with speeder combination to be probably one of the best driver shaft combos i have used (and i've used plenty!!) Its right up there with my old 983E with Harrison Pro 1.8 shaft which i reluctantly gave up as i found the 905S head to be a bit more forgiving. Great flight, carry, roll and most impotantly ACCURACY, with the added bonus of being fairly easy to work L-R when required.

I find the distance really increases on days when i'm swinging REALLY well (funny that), but excessively so, which leads me to the conclusion that this is not a driver for players that swing below 105 mph on average.

Give it a try - if you're a decent golfer you won't be disappointed.

I have played about every driver out there. I am a driver buff whose hobbie is trying new drivers. I have hit Ping G2-G5, Callaway GBB II, 454, TF-3, Cleveland 460 Comp. and Titanium, Cobra 380, 460, and their new failure. I have also tried the Nike Sassie. For me the best drivers on the market are made by Titleist. I currently have a 905S with 8.5 degree with a Graf. Blue Stiff, a 905T with 9.5 degree and a NV 65 Stiff, and a 905R 10.5 degree with Graphite Design 6+ stiff. It depends on the weather of the day as to which driver I use. If windy it is always the 905 S. My favorite would be the 905 S. 8.5 degree with the Blue shaft. Many reviews I have read say this shaft plays very stiff. I do not agree. I have a medium boring ball flight with this setup. For me it plays better than the NV 65 stiff. I tend to have a high ball flight and these two work well together. The 905 R is probably the easiest of the three to hit but all three of these clubs are winners. The T and the R tend to have higher ball flights and I can not tell then are that much more forgiving than the S. However, I am not a bucket on a stick fan anyway. So 460's are not my favorite size driver head. I will take a 400 anyday. Titleist drivers just tend to have feel to them. You can tell in your swing where the club head is at all times. You can not beat the sound or feel of a Titleist driver when hit solid. The drivers are also very user friendly and forgiving. Give Titleist a try before you buy you next driver.

Model Reviewed: 905s Titleist Speeder Stiff 9.5*

I tried this first into a net at a local golf shop without the monitor and it felt GREAT. Then I took it to a monitor next to my TM r7 460 9.5*, there was no contest. The launch angle was about 1-2 degrees lower, the spin was about 500 rpm higher, and carry was a good 10-15 yards shorter.

I took the demo out to the driving range anyway because of how good it felt without the monitor, and the monitor was right, I was consistently hitting the ball 10-15 yards shorter with this club and was having a hard time controlling the ball left and right due to lack of forgiveness. Now I'll admit, I'm the kind of golfer who would gladly give up being able to work the ball left to right for a 460cc head that hits it dead straight no matter what you're trying to do. And I guess that opinion is mostly why I don't like this driver. It's too workable and unforgiving for me. I can't imagine anyone with a handicap over 2 would like this over a TM r5 or any of the Cleveland 460's in the same price range.

I use to drive the ball very high using a g2 ping adila nv stiff. My pro hooked me up on a vector swing analizer.
I wanted the 905r but hit it too high so i was recommended the 905s with the speeder fujikura shaft. WOW what a difference, I now hit the ball further and straighter with this combination.
If you want a driver to suit your swing, try the launch monitor, it really works.
They are alot of money but hopefully I won't be changing for a while because I have found a club that suits me. Famous last words lol.

I have played both the 975J and 983E.

From my personal experience, Titleists clubs have played stiffer due to the thru bore shaft.

I have confirmed this by using a frequency analyzer.

They have historically played +1/2 Flex stiffer.

I recently ordered from the Factory a 905S with NV REGULAR thinking it would be more like FIRM.

When the club arrived, it was whippy.

How whippy? 232 CPM.

How a driver with a 3" set could be this loose remains a mystery to me and my club fitter.

The Factory is sending me another 905S 9.5º. This one will have Fuji Tour Plateform STIFF (an unpublished optional shaft). I play Fuji Tour Plateform Stiff in my Sonatec 3 and 5 woods and they are actually more FIRM flex than STIFF.

No explanation was offered by the Factory why the first 905S was so whippy.

I did notice the new 905S shaft and club head were both made in China.

The new Titleist is not the same as the old Titleist.

Customer Service

Except for offering no explanation for the whippy club, they were super and eager to correct the problem.
