Wilson Dd5 Drivers

Wilson Dd5 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The Dd5's Nano Ti construction allows almost 15% of the head weight to be redistributed, creating high COR, a deep CG, and optimal launch. Add a USGA maximum head size of 460cc, an ample .428 wide tip Nano Tech shaft, and a deep face design, and the clubs can even make off-center hits look solid.

I purchased this club a few weeks ago for $129. Sale price since wilson put out the Dd6 this year. 10 degree with a R Shaft.
I went to the driving range and worked my way from my Pwedge up to the Dd5, and with a nice easy swing the first hit went 250, with a nice fade. Next went about the same with no fade, and the rest...well...no need to repeat myself. My shortest drive went 240, and my longest was 270. This driver is comfortable to swing, has a really nice weight and feel in the hands, and is very confidence inspiring at address with it's size and shape. Easy to work the ball left or right, and very easy to get into the air...almost too easy. The ball hops of the face so dynamically that it shoots at a very high launch angle. I dropped down the tee about a quarter inch which flattened the trajectory to get the full 270 distance. My swing speed is slower than most (about 80mph), but man, does this club deliver. Personally, with my "normal guys" swing speed, this is an incredible club. Doesn't look like a kids toy like the gimic movable weights or yellow plastic inserts (taylormade/Nike)...just a classic yet modern golf club that will be in my bag for a long time.

Model Reviewed: Wilson Dd5 driver

In my breif experience with this driver I think it's safe to say that golfers who play it will like it if they get the shaft and loft that suits their game.
This is an atractive club, maybe the best-looking club on the market, blending the 460 head size with a classic design. That gives you confidence at address. Wilson's Nano Tech shaft is the real engine in this club. This driver has a solid sound/feel at impact and plenty of distance for most players. And, yes, it's straight. Of course, a bad swing will give you a bad shot, but make no mistake, this is a forgiving driver and toe shots go far and don't stray much.
I play the 11.5 with regular flex because my main objective is control, but I imagine the 10.5 would work well for many players and the 9.5 would play best for those who are more consistent.
I got a good deal, but would have paid much more for a driver of this quality.
Perhaps, one of the best deals in drivers, and certainly worth checking out.

The Wilson DD5 driver is a very, very nice looking driver. The overall size of the club head is fairly large as you come to expect from Drivers these days. I have now played five rounds with my new Wilson Staff clubs including my DD5. As i used to have Tommy Armour Silverscott clubs. The DD5 is an exceptionally forgiving club, the feel of the club is superb even on miss hits in my opinion. I used to hit the ball around about 230 - 235 metres(255 Yards) now i hit around 250 metres(273 yards). So there wasn't a massive improvement in distance, but it is enough to make those long Par 5's that bit much shorter. The accuracy of this club is where it comes into its own. Even though it still won't make a very poor golfer great if you are not hitting this club well you have a fair indication that your technique is wrong. I would reccommend this driver to a golfer with a handicap of between 5 to 20. Overall I believe this is a fine driver not the longest ever but by heck certainly one of the most accurate.

Customer Service

I bought this club at Kerris Ellis in South Australia and the customer service was great.

Ok, I love trying clubs and this is one of the winners. From the drivers I have tried lately the Dd5 is now my primary driver. My Dad is "Mr. Staff". He has his fluid feel irons that you couldn't pull from his hands if he was dead. So of course as his son I'm looking for a brand to call my own. So far it's a losing battle. I went out for 18 with him last week with my new Dd5 Nano Tech Stiff flex shaft. I startded out with an easy 75% swing for the first few holes and it went nicely where I was aiming, "Straight". Now normally and consistently I have a fade (Right handed) with a few staright ones here and there. I'm sure swing mechanics have something to do with that. Anyway, So the BIG test after a few holes was to let it all out. Now I'm certainly not a long drive champion and that's not my point but as we all know when we start rareing back and letting them fly that's when the spraying begins. All I can say is for ME a consistant fader my 100% swing speed drives stayed consistantly straight to a slight draw. Quite frankly I didn't think I could draw a drive before this. My score for that day was "83". As you can see my normal scoring is in the 90's. Now, that does not account for the Irons and putter I was trying out as well as the "good day bad day" thing. Check the Wilson Staff section for the irons I was using. DOH!

Got a good deal on the club and was able to order it 1" short. Hit about 20 balls on the range today. 16 were in the fairway, 4 mis-hits were still very playable. Usaually would have had 4-5 push/slices, but none with the Dd5. This club is very straight and forgiving. 10 degree loft is plenty high. Club sets up very nice at address. I've demo'd some clubs that are longer, but none this consistently straight.

Wow!!! Although I'm not normally the straightest shooter this club has definitely helped me. I get major distance with my fade (when it fades) and mis hits still go way long. I'm loving this club and it was a bargain--if you can snatch this up I highly recommend it!

OK - have now played 5 rounds with this club and it is very impressive. I am not sure if it as long as my old Powersphere or Snake Eye 600tj, but it is without doubt the most consistent. Off centre hits hardly deviate from a 'good hit'. The dispertion is a very tight area, far beter than any other club. For a Big Headed Club, you can tee the ball very low without any problems - great for sqeezing out a long fade (if required). The shaft, a Graffaloy Prolite, is very different to other Prolites I have tried (it must be the Nano Tech built in to the weave) ; it feels a little firmer than other Reg Shafts. At least 3 other golfers I have played with have all hit my Wilson and everyone to a man has nailed it long (all better than me) - and strangely they each take different flex shafts normally, but they all hit this club without problem ! Overall, an easy club to hit that is longish but very very consistent.
