Model Reviewed: Bobby Jones 3 wood (13 deg)

Best "2 Wood" I'd ever hit....13 deg. Normally three woods have a 15 deg face. I've had my Bobby Jones fairways for at least the better part of nine years! The 13 degree model is a dream greedy devil! Makes the ball go far. Mine is a regular shaft...low profile face ...easy to look at and easy to hit! The 13 deg face does not present any problems in getting the ball airborne. I also have a 15 degree Bobby Jones five wood and a 17 deg ...it's a strong seven wood. Wouldn't give them up for anything! But, if you rough on them...they chip like heck! Cosmetically awful looking, but still very functional! Ya thunk I node better! Gotta put the club cover on right after you hit! PERIOD! In addition I know some gals who got on Bobby Jones bandwagon early... just love their fairways.. But, Bobby Jones doesn't have a huge advertising budget and a bunch of reps..so lots of people have no idea how good they are ... they are fabulous sticks....lots of ladies are missing out on a very, very playable fairway woods. B Jones stopped making the ladies woods! Matter of fact I'm looking for a 13 degree men's regular....being a teaching pro, I think my clubs shouldn't look like they got run over by the greens mower! I did have them painted twice but that doesn't hold up. You get near a Bobby Jones Fairway ..buy it.. Men's come in sr., regular and stiff ....guarantee you'll fall in love with the 13 deg. And, don't forget the 15 and 17 degrees are sweet too!

Model Reviewed: Bobby Jones player series 19# hybrid

A friend of mine ask me to hit his "little hybrid" on a par 5. I did and nutted it and that was it for me I was amazed at the feel and distance I got from this "little hybrid". I purchased the 19# to replace my 2 iron and just the other day I had 236 to the green on a par five at one of our local courses. I honestly didn't think I'd reach it but I did and this time I didn't "nut it". To me this club is the best one in my bag and would not be without it. I also use it off the tee on short par 4's. In my opinion you can't buy a better hybrid.

I bought this club used; actually traded my 17 degree Ping Rapture hybrid for it at a local golf store. So far it is a great addition to my bag. I also carry a Ping G5 22 degree hybrid that I'm thinking about replacing with a similar Bobby Jones model.

Club is not worth the money. What jesse says on those infomercials is total BS. I have absolutely no confidence at addresse with this club. YOu have to spend about 50 hours at the range wasting precious money until you finally figure out how to hit this damn club. You also better be commited to your shot or will probably be a 40 yard slice. Ball flight is way too high if it is struck well. Face is way to shallow. This occassionally leads to huge pops, that go about 20 yards and cuff up the top of the club. I must admit it is very attractive but certainly not one of those "go-to" fairways off the tee or to reach a par five in two. I am looking to trade it in a buy a used Ping, probably rapture v2 or g10. I am going to carry a 4 wood next year and then a 3 hybrid, by doing this, I can put a gap wedge in my bag which is great for around 100yards. In a nutshell, the clubs is pretty crappy, and infomercials are total junk.

Model Reviewed: Bobby Jones Fairway woods 3 & 5

I was looking to upgrade my fairway woods from the Callaway's I have had for the past 20 years. Wow what a club! From my first time I hit the 5 wood I was sold! I traded my Callaway 3 wood and paid $40.00 for the 5 wood. What a deal. These are the best fairway woods I have hit by far. These clubs look great at address and feel better. I only wish my 3 wood was a 13 degree is stead of 15 degree. But you can't have everything. These clubs may not be for everyone, but I really love them!

The first time I needed to hit it out of some nasty Burmuda rough from a buried lie, I looked up surprised because it came out so clean. The ball was dissapearing with a high fade around a right dogleg. Could hardly believe it. Have never hit a club like this from the rough. Great from the fairway or tee too, gets around 200 yds.

ICK. Wasted my money. Solid feel at impact but shallow face combined with heavy back weighting leads to too high a flight and occasional pop-ups that go nowhere.

Model Reviewed: Bobby Jones "Jesse Ortiz" 21 degree

In a test of 7 hybrids, Golf Digest had this club as the overall winner. 11 categories were tested by 8 players from a country club in New Jersey. The Bobby Jones club won 5 of those categories. 2 of those categories were in chipping!!? Quite frankly, I don't shop for a hybrid for chipping purposes. I realize that this is a personal choice but, it is probably the norm rather than the exception. I, like so many others, look for a hybrid to replace the long iron or a fairway wood. I want to see what it can do from the fairway or the rough, even off the tee. All a fair distance from the green. In these categories, the Jones was the loser.
I went to a golf center to try it out. Nice club, but not for me and my criteria for a hybrid. I found a high lofted (26 degree) Nike Slingshot or older CPR were great from the rough, and a 20 or 23 degree MacGregor MacTec NVG2 were terrific from the fairway. I also found that the Callaway Fusion FT-Hybrid was the long hitter, but I was inconsistent with it. Personal evaluations but hey, that's what this site is all about.

Golf Digest was right on placing this club on its Hot List. There are so many things to like:

Beautifully finished and they come from the factory with a quality graphite designs ys shaft. My swing speed is in the 85mph - 90mph range, so regular flex works for me.

Forgivess is very good. I hit one of my buddy's Callaway X woods for comparison and couldn't discern much difference between the two in this area. In fact, I was set on buying the X woods initially but wound up preferring the sound and feel of the Bobby Jones clubs better.

This design has a neutral club face. I don't work the ball but it's easier for me to hit balls straight without a draw bias influence.

I've struggled for years with trajectory on my fairway wood shots. Not anymore. I've tried other clubs that claim a low center of gravity but none of them have helped me like this design. The shallow face and low COG just work.

Not the longest wood I've hit(That's the Mactec NVG), but it provides good length and more importantly accuracy.

Obviously I couldn't be happier with my selection. I bought this set off of Ebay at a significant savings.
