Needed a 3 wood that could out-hit my Callaway Steelhead Plus 5 wood. I hit the SH+ 5 wood 210-230 very consistently. My Ping isi 3 wood (12 degree) was always very long but rarely straight (my fault) and was too small to hit off the tee. I tried the VFT 3 wood and liked it. The VFT landed where my 5 wood rolled to, and I could hit it higher than the 5 (I must be delofting the 5 but it works). I was ready to buy the VFT when I saw the ERC. It was on sale for $30 less, so I tried it and found it was a little better than the VFT. It has a deep face but is not as wide as the VFT. It is less likely to hook the ball. It seems to set up more square and it looks the same as the SH+. This is not a magic club. It goes 210-250 right now. It feels as solid as my 975 J-VS. I am fading everything these days (including the 975J-VS which is supposed to draw), but hope to get my draw working again and maybe get the distance up.

An average club from Callaway with the System 50 ultralight firm shaft. The shaft felt light and whippy for my fast tempo swing. I really had to slow it down and take a smooth easy swing which is not my style. A great club when I reshafted with a Graphite Design YS-7 that was SST Pured by Golfsmith. Excellent distance off the tee, almost matches my driver distance which I might just take out of the bag. I like the fact that I hit a slight draw with this off the tee, I usually hit a slight fade. Easy to hit and straight off the fairway, which gives me confidence to use for a 2nd shot into a long par 5. My main reason for purchasing was the fact that this club conforms to present USGA rules. Who knows what will happen after 1/1/03 and beyond. I don't want a club that will be illegal in x amount of years.

Customer Service

Callaway is great when replacing clubs, Terrible when you ask about shaft specs. Wish they would list them on their website.
