This is the best 3 wood I have hit. Hit this directly against Ping i3 12* and a TM200 and this hits the most penetrating trajectory that gives great carry and excellent roll. The feel of pured hits is electric. The club looks great feels great and hits great. Can't beleive that this can be bettered. The new SHIII seems much bigger and I don't like the colour either. The older SH hits a floating sort of ball. This thing goes like a missile in fact I think it is the best since the S2H2 3wood - in fact this is even better than that.

Model Reviewed: Callaway Steelhead

I'm an old guy who started playing golf three years ago. In my first bag I had the Steelhead 7-wood with Memphis 10 Steel Shaft and I loved it. My bag was stolen and when I replaced my clubs I went with graphite in the Steelhead Plus; it was a big mistake for me. I kept topping the ball in the fairway and was not accurate with it. Recently I bought the re-issued original Steelhead 3 & 5-woods with the steel shafts. I hit them longer and much straighter. I hit the 3 as long as my driver most of the time. For me they are much better than the Plus clubs.

Model Reviewed: Steelhead Plus 5 wood

I have had my Steelhead Plus 3 wood for a couple of months and really like it to use in the fairway and off the tee. I like the 5 wood more since it is easier for me to control and I generally hit it about 230-250 with a low penetrating ball flight. This club is a very forgiving club which is good for me since I have only been playing for 11 months but with practice have improved greatly on my game with my callaway woods.I would recomend this club to beginners like myself for its forgiveness.

Model Reviewed: SteelHeadIII Graphite, Firm flex

I have never been a long hitter of the ball. As I have gotten older, I have gotten even shorter, and have finally resorted to using a 3-Wood off the tee. Actually, most week-end golfers would do well to follow my suit. If in doubt, ask your pro. However, using the Steelhead III, I am consistently hitting 225 to 235, which I am plenty happy with, and I know where the ball is going to end up, for the most part. I have read enough reviews that I was pretty much convinced that the Callaway graphite shafts run soft, the Firm is equal to most other manufactures' "R" flex. Buy it, you'll like it. Previously, had a 3 Wood WarBird with uniflex steel, hated the thing! Got no distance with it at all, could hardly get the ball off the deck. So, I am really enjoying this club, no comparison to the WarBird.

Not as firm feeling as the original Steelhead. Not as forgiving on off center hits and not as crisp on impact. I prefer the original Steelhead over the Plus model anyday.

Feels good, and looks good when I set up to the ball. This is the longest three wood I've ever hit. I can hit it about 265 on average. My only complaint is the shaft. I have the uniflex steel shaft in mine. Even though this shaft suits me better than any of Callaway's crapy graphite shafts I still think I'm going to replace the shaft. I have to try to fade the ball to get it to go straight. I play a little draw, but with this club it's flirting with a hook. So the shaft is definately being replaced.

Wow, what a great golf club. Sounds like a gem and it flys STRAIGHT! even the miss hit shots off the deck will clear 200 meters then run run run. Great club to see at address, beautiful blue colour and the shape is wonderful, it is very inviting for a good smack.

Simply the best fairway metal-wood I have ever played. I've used the Callaway Warbird, Steelhead Plus, VFT, and Steelhead III and have always gone back to the original Steelhead. Crisp feel and solid feedback from the clubhead when the ball is struck. I hit my 4 wood about 215 yards.

If you want a great club(a timeless classic) at a great price then look no further than the remake of the original Steelhead available new at Edwinwatts.com for only $119 bucks. I've hit the "Plus" --did'nt like it as much--and it was'nt out that long before Callaway introduced the " III " version of the Steelhead--which tells me other people did not think that highly of the Plus's either. To me, it just did'nt feel as sweet and solid as the original Steelhead. Anyhow, I've been using a firm flexed graphite Steelhead #3 wood for a few years, and while I love it off the tee, I do feel the lighter weight of the graghite shaft is causing me to have trouble getting down on the ball(the club just seems to want to float--with a resulting topped shot. Does anyone else have a similiar experience? That is the reason I'm switching to the heavier steel shafts for all my future fairway woods. Weight can be your friend--save the graphite for your drivers, is the conclusion I've reached--if you are relatively young you probably won't see much yardage difference with steel, and the control/accuracy will be much better to boot. Anyhow, the original Steelhead has a very solid, and stable feel to it--it's just that club makers feel they have to come out with new products every year for marketing reasons--sometimes the new products are better, but often times they are equal or worse than the previous years model. The fact that Callaway is once again producing the original Steelhead is a testament to just how good the club is. My advice would be to not spend more on the so called improved versions of the Steelhead, because my experience is that the original is still the best of the bunch--you can't go wrong with these, and for only $119 bucks it's a steal
