I received the V-Foil 5W with the Aldila V60 Tourney Distance Series Stiff Flex. The shaft sounds like it might be good, but turns out it really is one of the worst shafts ever made. I think part of the problem is the .335 tip diameter (required for the V-Foil and most fairway woods) is too narrow for a crummy shaft. A .350 would be better, but I think Wilson Fat Shaft is the best idea for stiffening the tip and reducing torque on an inexpensive shaft. Anyway, this softy, when swung with a little or more force, starts the ball right and then lets it go further right (push fade/slice.) I could get the ball going straight right or way right with a little draw, but only with a lot of conscious effort. And, it is short. As another reviewer wrote, "about 4 iron distance," which I think is a bit complementary, as my experience is 5 or 6 iron distance. If I can find a decent shaft with a .335 stiff tip at a good price, I think the head is worth saving.

5W. Shaft: Stiff flex, Aldila V60 Tourney Distance Series. Doesn't that sound like a good shaft? I've never tried a club with an Aldila shaft that I liked and this is no exception. The ball goes right from impact and keeps going further right and it doesn't go far. Another post says like "4 iron distance," which to be fair is more like 5 iron in my experience. I hit 20 balls with it and I did not hit one that started along the target line. I could hit it straight right or draw it from well right, but only with a conscious effort and even with a flush straight shot, it was short. I should have tossed it in the trash, but I'm tempted to put in another shaft (it'd be my first attempt) as it is a beautiful looking head and it sets up nicely. Smile, Aldila for making crap, fool me thrice, double shame on me.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor V-Foil 3 and 5 wood

I bought these fairway woods 2 years ago and liked them OK but not a whole lot. They seemed to either want to hook or fade but rarely go straight. when they did, however, they were great. Finally, in desperation I bought a pair of Cobra SZs and they were straighter but shorter. After a year with the Cobras I had the thought that maybe the problem with the V-Foils was the shafts. I had them reshafted with Aldila NV65 high launch R flex shafts. Now all is well with the world. They hit true and long and I am reaching par 5 greens in 2 where I was not able to before. In short, great clubheads, lousy factory shafts. If these are available cheap enough, buy the clubs and have them reshafted, you won't be sorry.

Model Reviewed: V-foil tourney 3 wood

After breaking a shaft on my old three wood, I purchased this club from Rock Bottom Golf. I got the Aldila regular flex shaft, which feels more like a senior flex. I have trouble getting the face around on this club, even with an easy swing. All my other clubs (Taylormade, Adams, and Mizuno) play a slight draw for me, but this wood goes right from the moment of impact. The club is very nice looking, and makes a wonderful sound when striking the ball, but it is short. I hit my adams 3 wood 230+ from the fairway, but I am lucky to get 200 out of this club (I hit it about to my 4 iron length). I really don't like it.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor V-Foil 3-wood

Loved the look of both the MacGregor 1025 irons and the V-Foil woods when they were introduced but was absolutely no way I would pay what they were asking for them. However, I recently picked up a 15 degree V-Foil 3-wood at Dick's for $59.95. Only had it in a regular-flex shaft which ended up being a blessing in disguise since it is very firm for a regular. Also would have preferred a strong 3 instead of the 15 degree but I have not sacrificed any distance. Would have preferred a lower ball flight but this baby is long and straight and pretty easy to hit consistently. I'm probably 18 for 20 with it so far and it has been a definite improvement over my Snakes Eyes with Graffaloy shaft.

Model Reviewed: strong 3,5,and 7 woods

After buying [and loving]my V-Foil Driver last April,I was curious about the MacGregor fairway woods. I read the five reviews here and drove to the store to try the clubs.Ended up buying a strong 3,reg flex and a 5 wood firm flex, all that was in stock and too impatient to order and wait. Must be the shorter shaft, because all my other clubs are regular flex ,yet I hit the firm 5 fine.Wow! these clubs are each 10 to 15 yards longer than my previous clubs[McHenry].So, I just got the 7,also firm shaft and hit it straight too. They look good ang hit long and straight.Very happy.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor V-Foil Fairway Woods

I've had my V Foil fairway wood for several weeks, and feel I can write a review that's not a "just got it; shot my best round ever" review. I have a 15 degree 3 wood with a Graphite Design YS-7 regular flex shaft. This combination is the only one I've found in a fairway wood that could bump my Cleveland Launcher out of my bag. The weight distribution makes it very easy to get the ball in the air straight and long. I'm more confident both off the tee and fairway than any other metalwood I've owned or tried: this includes the Ping i3, Taylormade 580 series, Cleveland Launcher (great club), Adams TL2, Mizuno, and Callaway. MacGregor is really on a roll with their current irons and metalwoods. What makes these clubs especially appealing is their reasonable price.

Long, straight, high ball fligt, soft landing, good looks and easier to get airborne than Adams' Tight Lies. What elese could you want? OK, one more thing, they are ridiculously cheap on ebay.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor V-Foil 13*

I custom ordered this club with a YS-6 shaft along with the 8.5* driver (see separate review in Drivers Section). I never thought I'd find a 13* wood that would make me bench my old Mizuno T3 Titanium, but now I have. This is a classy looking club with great feel, trajectory, forgiveness, and distance (a bit longer than my T3). As an indicator of quality, the driver and this club were absolutely identical in swingweight when I received them - D3.5, which to me is perfect. I only with they offered a 16* or 17* club - they have a 15* (which is too close) and a 19*. This club really powers thru the ball, and with the weighting I find I can get the ball out of the rough better than the Mizuno. Fabulous club...

Customer Service

Took 42 days to receive clubs after ordering thru my club, due to lack of availability of YS-6 shafts..
