Sonartec SS-02 Fairway Woods

Sonartec SS-02 Fairway Woods

DESCRIPTION

Standard Face (157cc based on 3 wood) Classic Shape Stainless Steel Head Graphite Shaft Driving Cavity on Sole allows for greater distance and control and a high, flat ball flight. Balanced weight distribution in the perimeter creates more stability on heel/toe miss-hits and a wider sweet spot. Deeper Center of Gravity (CG) creates a penetrating ball flight with no balloon effect; ball is less apt to be affected by wind. CG is aligned with the ball at impact every time. Perfect connection. Precisely conforms to the legal Coefficient of Restitution (COR) set forth by the USGA; allows for faster ball speed and greater carry.

I have had this 3 wood for 2 years and it never lets me down. I have the stock penley shaft in regular flex and it seems a good shaft although I am contemplating substituting a proforce 65 fw shaft in stiff flex which I have in my 5wood. The ball flight is mid-high but flat and penetrating. The ball definately doesnt hang in the air. Despite the compact head forgiveness is good. The club looks stunning at address but the lack of an alignment mark may be of concern for some. Overall a superb club that oozes quality and plays reallly well.

Let me start by saying that I am something of a freak when it comes to equipment. I have recently tried pretty much every wood available! But when I finally got my ss02 I stopped looking. Not only does this club look amazing with top grade manufacturing, it does exactly what it says it will! This is very refreshing in the days of BS advertising and ridiculous claims. It hits the ball solid, straight and low. If you are a high ball hitter like me, you will know that there is nothing more frustrating than a 3 wood that flies like an 8 iron in the wind. Combine the fine looking shallow head with a decent shaft like the NV and you are laughing. There really is nothing spectacular about this club, but to me it simply looks, sounds and feels totally solid and reliable. Isn't this what we are all looking for in a fairway woood if we are honest? It sets up so nicely behind the ball and you can even hit off a low tee. This club almost makes those long par 5s too easy and boring!!!

After my beloved titleist 980f stong broke i decided to try a new club, and wound up demoing this club some months ago. I must say this club is sweet! i got mine with just the clubhead and put the true temper crossfire shaft in it and it is sweet! i consider my self somewhat of an equipment freak, put the launch conditions are truly the most ideal for all golfers in the 14 degrre model. I know there are the new models that just came out, but this club will be in my bag loner than any of the others!

Having lost my favorite 3 wood of all time (Taylor Made Firesole), I spent many lost years trying to find an adequate replacement. After trying all the new Taylor Made models, a couple of Precepts, a few Callaways, Adams, Orlimar, and coming close with a Ping TiSi Tec, I finally have a club that has replaced the Firesole in my affections. I bought the Sonartec SS-02 and unlike the previous mentioned clubs it required no adjustemnt period. The ball flight is a little lower but it was long. The face sits a touch closed (which I prefer) but even with my natural draw, hooking the club is difficult. The stock Penley shaft seems up to the task, and the simple look of the club is second to none. I'm looking forward to more extensive playing with this club.

Model Reviewed: Sonartec :Super CV BBD 4 Wood

After struggling with a variety of 3 woods over the last 10 years I decided to take the plunge and buy a Sonartec 4 wood after reading all the terrific reviews on this site.Dallas Golf had been advertising the Royal Super CV Collection which they describe as the way Sonartec is marketed in Japan(just in case anyone had seen their ads and worried about the change of name). In any case , the 4 wood with steel shaft was $69.00 US which seemed fair enough. After 2 wild slices I realised that I didn't have to hold the face open like normal closed face woods and just let it sit normally.I used the 4 wood off all tees and for all fairway shots where possible and shot 2 over for 9 holes.Big news for me I'll tell you.The tee shots were good but I found that it actually went further off the deck for some reason. Distance was consistently around the 200 metre mark and I'm certainly no big hitter these days.As others have said the flight is a little lower than some but very straight on all but the worst miss hits with good roll on skinny shots. A very well made club ,with a nice thick coat of paint. Possibly would be better with a graphite shaft but I'll never know. Will have to look out for one of their hybrids next.

Model Reviewed: Sonartec SS02 5W 19d YS-9.1X

I am an 8 handicap with a natural draw, and hit the ball high, so I was looking for a club with a lower ball flight without a hook face. I bought a Sonartec SS-02 5 wood 19 degree with the YS-9.1 X shaft on ebay this summer, and I couldn't be happier. The clubhead's black color is really attractive, and the club looks great at setup, which always helps with confidence. I am in between an S and an X shaft at 105 mph average clubhead speed; this makes it hard for me to find equipment. The YS-9.1 X shaft is great for me. The club feels really good at impact, and I can work it both ways. On normal swings this club goes 220 and it doesn't seem to ballon like a lot of fairway woods do into the wind. It is also easy to hit off the fairway or moderate rough. My home course has demo days every year, and I've tried all of the better known brands. The only brand of fairway wood that I like nearly as well as this club is Wilson Deep Red (I have a Deep Red 3 wood, which I love). I also have demoed and really like the Sonartec SS-03 with stock X shaft and NP-99 with NV-75 S/X shaft, but I don't own any of these other models.

This is by far the best fairway wood out there. I love the fact that they have 13, 14, and 15 degree lofts. Most fairway woods only come in higer lofts. I did notice that because the Sonartecs sit square (not hook faced), the loft is "true"....That means at the time of impact, the loft is lower than a hook faced club. I recommend going one degree or two degrees higher than other fairway woods to get the same distance. Also, the added loft will be more forgiving for players with less consistent swing. The advertised "driving cavity" technology does produce a penetrating ball flight that cuts through the wind and eliminates ballooning. Even with higher lofts.

Customer Service

I called Sonartec numerous times to ask questions about the clubs and find the right club for me. Derek was a great help in customer service! Helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable.

I was looking for a 3 wood that I could confidently hit from the tee for good distance, and yet play good, solid shots from the fairway off tight lies. The medium height profile of the SS-02 fulfills those goals. Off the tee the face height is high enough that the ball can be teed up a little (as opposed to say an Orlimar), and off the fairway the face height is low enough that I can confidently hit the ball. My club has the stock Sonartec R shaft. I have found this club to hit very straight, boring shots. The trajectory is not high, but it is solid and reliable. It works very well for those long par 3's. The feel takes a little while to adjust to. The ball does not jump off the face as some people like, it's more of a solid "whack". It is not the longest 3 wood that I have ever hit but it is no slouch either. For me, the biggest thing is reliability. I like the combination of control, distance, and trajectory. It's a lot of fun when I pull it out of the bag.

This club is awful. I own the new Titleist 980F, the Ping i-3, and the Cleveland Launcher. All are good clubs, and I happen to prefer the Titleist. I unfortunately wasted my money on the Sonartec SS-02 after hearing some good things about it. I absolutely cannot hit this club - I think the weighting and design are poor.

Customer Service

I ordered from the website. They hit my credit card the day I ordered, then took 3 weeks to ship. Bad business practices - you're supposed to hit the credit card at the time of shipment.
