Titleist 975F Fairway Woods

Titleist 975F Fairway Woods

DESCRIPTION

The 975F is the ultimate combination of size and weighting in a fairway metal, producing a sweet, solid feel and sound. The lower center of gravity and increased face roll provide the proper launch angle and easy-up playability. The internal weighting is forward biased to reduce spin and produce a flatter downrange trajectory, the hallmark of all Titleist 975F fairway metals. The leading edge is beveled and radiused and the sole is crowned along the center for playability from all types of lies.

easy to hit fades.
easy out from roughs.
good for 190~210 yards on a good FW lie
sometimes reaching 230 swinging harder.
a smooth swing from Tees gets me 200...man i love having to fix divot holes on Par-3s
a 3/4 swing gets me 160~180 yards. so why would i need a hybrid? so i sold my hybrid.

975f's versatile and reliable.

the dense head cuts moves grass nicely from roughs, where i swing a lot from.

after my putter, it's my most valuable club in my bag. there are many short game solutions, but on my off days I can rely on this "5-wood" to get there, most of the time.

(fyi: my 6-irons go 145 to 165 yards from FWs)

i waited 'till i acutally shoot in the 100s before i wrote up this review

Model Reviewed: Titleist 975F 14.5* & 18.5* LH True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 Steel Shaft

Recently, I picked up a couple of experienced Titleist 975F woods to go with a newly acquired 983K. Although the 980Fs are very fine fairway woods in their own right, I preferred the 975F for its profile and appealing good looks. Unlike many other OEM woods, the 975F series does not have a closed face at address...it sits square to the target. I feel that a closed face does not help a golfer at address, but hinders and quite possibly screw him up. As the manufacturer suggests, the 975F provides a boring ball trajectory. This should not be construed with any notions that the club is difficult to get the ball up in the air as some of the previous reviewers have suggested. The 975F should not be put down by one's misinterpretation of ball trajectory and his ability to hit a fairway wood properly. I do agree with some reviewer that at first glance, the small club head may appear to be intimidating. Although, there are bigger fairway woods out there, the club is not difficult to hit. Put on a good swing and the club will perform to expectation. The True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 steel shaft is a good match for the 975F. However, I will be installing a 72g Grafalloy ProLite Fairway shaft (S-Flex) in the 14.5* club. I am hoping to gain a few more yards out of the 3 wood without sacrificing accuracy. The steel shaft will still remain in the 18.5* club.

I am an aging, short-hitting hacker, but have found this wood (with the Dynamic Gold R300 shaft) better for me than all the big-headed drivers I've tried. I'm consistently in the fairway, 195-205 yards. The small head is not a problem, even off-centre hits going well. The sound is crisp (and I've found sound is important, at least for me). If the ball is sitting nicely in the fairway, I can get it up enough that it goes, but my swing-speed is so slow I really should be using a 5/7- wood. I'm still looking for one, in fact, preferably a used 975F (or maybe a 980F)- as they're pricey. This one I got for $105, used. I've played with several other 3-woods (both graphite and steel) and haven't found them as good. If I could putt as well as I drive, I'd be in the 90's - and I owe it to this club. The finish lasts well - a function of the evident quality. The regular Ultralite graphite shaft is a bit soft, whereas the Select graphite shaft is a bit stiff (registers as an R500).

I purchased the Titleist 975F 16.5 on ebay about a month ago. I was never a good fairway wood player but this club is amazing. The classic shape is pleasing to the eye and the club squares up nicely. It also lets the club slide through the rough easily. This club is a bit heavier than other fairway woods but it allows you to feel the head a bit better. Feedback could be a bit better but ive found that it really doesnt matter cause im finiding the sweet spot every time. I have the UST FWgold shaft and this combination works beautifully. Off the tee i hit this about 235-250 and off the deck i only lose about ten yards. The distance control on this club is one of its best attributes. I can easily control it if i want to hit it any range from 210 to 240. Overall, i can't say enough about this club, get it. My experience has made it one of the favorite clubs in my bag.

I played my first ever round with the 975F 13.5 degree. I have to say it's the easiest fairway metal I've ever used. I was playing a tight course and used it of the tee with a consistent draw in the 250 - 270 range. More importantly I hit 11 of 14 fairways. I'm looking to add a 5 metal to the bag now. I used the 300 series fairway metals before this. Taylor Made doesn't even come close to the Titleist product.

This is a very solid club. It has very quick response. The club isn't as forgiving as many of the oversized fairway woods, but the feel is excellent. Solid shots have a soft feel but doesn't feel at all dull. I can hit this club from the tee or off the deck with good accuracy. Off the tee the ball will fly with a slight draw about 235 yards. Off the deck a little distance is lost but not as much as expected.

Excellent fairway wood. It's not true that only single handicaper can use them. Easy to swing, solid feel and very good feedback.

I have both the 14.5 and the 18.5. Simply the best woods in the business. The five wood goes 225 with your eyes closed. The size of the club head may scare those who allow their spine angles to collapse and dip and/or rise, but that's are what golf lessons are for. If you cannot hit these clubs call your local PGA instructor and seek help. Long, straight, penetrating, mega yards, easy from any lie. What else can I say?

Thanks for the reviewers of this forum. Based on your comments I bought the club yesterday without really testing it first, AND IT'S THE BEST!. I'm not a fast/strong swinger but with regular Grafalloy shaft the club works really nice. For all of you who have handicap between 10-15 (or under), buy this club and have a nice time on the fairway!

If you don't have the 975f in your bag, you don't have the right fairway wood. I've got the 13.5 degree with ei-70 stiff shaft. This thing is awesome. This thing is like a magic wand off the tee, fairway and light rough. This baby compliments my 975D(which Tiger just switched back to before PGA). How I played golf before I got this club I'll never know. I'd marry it if it had a finger for me to put a ring on.
