Model Reviewed: Acer XDS Irons

The XDS Pro Heads are a very good feeling head and are extremely forgiving. The feel is comparable to name brand products (if set up properly). They tend to play slightly softer because of the bore depth of 1 1/8 (as opposed to the standard 1 1/2). That translates into about 3-4 cycles or a sub flex (e.g. S300 shaft will play firm, which is between S300 & R300). Try to weight sort the heads if you can prior to purchase as this model has a wide variance in head weight. Additionally, keep in mind that these heads are slightly heavier than many other component heads and are set up to be 1/4 to 1/2 inch under the modern standard (e.g. 37.5 to 37.75 5Iron as opposed to the modern 38 inch standard). One more thing, these heads are made of 17-4 steel and will not bend easily, if at all. So if you play with 3+/- degrees of lie angle, you may not want to purchase these heads These head feel great. They are not quite as pleasent to look at from above as the Callaway X-14 pros, but they will play just as well. I set these up with DG X100 shafts, soft tipped by 1/2 inch, with the 5 iron @ 37.75 inches. The set plays great. I don't envy any of the name brand manufacturers. These heads will create a great set if your shafts are properly fitted to your swing (both length, lie & swingweight). They are currently a bargain as they are no longer being manufactured. I recommend that you pick up a set while they are still around.
