Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

I read the reviews on this site before purchasing, but only to confirm my belief that these are the sweetest feeling clubs I've ever hit. I played the Ping Eye 2 BeCu irons for years, but when visiting proshops, I always found the Hogan Apex Plus had the best feeling---like butter. Now that I've played them for a couple months, about 10 rounds, they are truly the best clubs I've ever hit. They are about 5 to 10 yards longer than my old Pings. I can turn the ball more, when I want to. They aren't as forgiving as Callaways, but they are pretty soft even on mis-hits towards the toe. Also, they seem to maintain a pretty signicant distance even on mis-hits. I paid $180 or so on E-bay. If you can find a set for that much, or even more, I'd get them.

I wanted to really like these and did not. The Pros: Solid feeling and weight, looks. Can also find good sets on Ebay cheap. The cons: The generally hit low and I found it tough to get any check on the ball, even with E-8 iron. I am used to short irons landing and stopping or getting some back spin. These hit and release. They also felt hard. They did not work for me

I bought my set of Hogans on the internet for 250 euro. I love the feel of this club, the control and the distance. It performs great and they look even better. I have tried a couple of other clubs and brands in the mean time, not even comming close. I think i will be playing these club for quit som time.

Customer Service

Haven't needed them, but the people at BUVA sports BeNeLux know what they are doing.

I think these are an excellent set of irons. If you do a little looking, your can find a set for under $200, and they are well worth more. I have been using the Apex Plus for about 6 months now and have been impressed. They feel heavier than the clubs I was using , but they give you so much more feedback. It is true, that when you hit a bad shot there is very little forgiveness. I have not seen much a difference between these clubs and the new Be Hogan (they look the same to me). The only problem I have seen is that they get scratched up easily. Also the paint doesn't last long.

I bought these as an upgrade from my Hogan Radials. The Radials are great clubs (my grandfather's old set) and they got me hooked on forged clubs (see my review under Hogan Radials), but I was hitting my iron shots too high (regular shaft and designed to help get the ball up). I wanted a forged club and I like the Hogan brand, so I picked up a nice Apex Plus set off of ebay with stiff shafts (Apex 4), cheaper than getting my Radials reshafted. I played one round, and they play great. I still hit my shots high, but not as high as the radials. Flush shots feel just like butter (forged is the only way to go), and I hit them further than any other irons I have played. Very happy with the clubs and recommend them to anyone looking for a nice forged set.

Simply Awesome! I have played Ping Eye 2+ irons for 12 years. I have demoed about everything, but could never justify spending $500-$700 for a new set. This summer I found a used set of Hogan Apex Plus at Golf Galaxy for $180. I figured I couldn't go wrong. I couldn't be happier. They are as forgiving as my Eye2's and about the same length. However, these forged clubs feel so much better! They really do feel like "butter". If you hit in the 80s and are looking for a good set of forged clubs, go for the Apex Plus. By the way, I demoed the new Hogan FTX 6 iron versus my Apex Plus 6 - they hit exactly the same.

Never used them.

Picked these babies up for $270 (2-LW)on ebay. Buter, Buter, Butter best describes these irons! Avg. length do to my slow swing speed, but VERY accurate. When struck well....butter, when not struck so well....good feed back, but not harsh. ! These are the best irons I have played and will be in my bag for a LONG TIME.

Wow! these clubs are amazing. 8-iron and up I can spin the ball back or stick it anytime as long as I'm playing with a soft ball. I am now able to hit the ball longer and with more spin and control. I shot my lowest score in my 5th round with these clubs a couple days ago - 85! Up next is the Big Ben putter for me.

I'm currently playing with my Titleist 962B Irons and yearn for the soft/magic feel of a Forged Iron. I've demoed & found Hogan Apex Plus & Macgregor 1025C Irons to be very satisfying when my shots are pured. My Hogan Apex Plus Irons come w/RP TFR 5.0 shafts which I really love. Shots fly high & land soft. Feel/sound at impact is a satisfying oumph/thud. Hogan finishing & quality is top notch, non-parallel. Pity is the red numbering paint which peels/wears off easily. This is one set of forged Irons which I'll play for a long time.
