Ben Hogan make fantastic golf clubs, that are in many ways superior to Callaway in feel, finish, quality and of course price. These irons have all those qualities. Abit surprising having a cast model in their line up - but still a great club for those not after a forged club. I have owned a great number of Ben Hogan iron sets including the now discontinued 2003 Ben Hogan Edge - which have all been first class. Go out and try them - I believe that virtually every Ben Hogan Iron Model is as good as the Callaway Irons but cheaper. |

This is not that kind of game-improvement club. You gottan have a decent swing to hit well. This club has everything I want. First of all, feel is great. You can get enough feedback. First time I saw the club, I thought that this is a cheaper version of Callway X-14 pro. Well...even thouh they have lots of similarities in terms of the look, you will get exceptional performance from this well-priced club. I defnitenly recommend this for mid-handcappers who want mores of mediocre game-improvement sets out there. One thing I wonder is why they put True Temper shaft instead of Royal Precision that was used in Apex series. Similar Products Used: Callaway X-14, X-16, Ping G2...They are all great but they don't seem to have feel that I want. |

Ben Hogan BH 5 Irons
For five years I've been playing with the Wilson Deep Red irons, steel shaft, regular flex, and have had mediocre to poor success. I tinkered with my swing over and over and only had slight results when playing regularly, any layoff at all and it was back to hooking, slicing, fading, drawing... in short very frustrating to just keep vacillating shooting in the 90's to 100's. Lately the clubs had been feeling "clunky" in a way, awkward in my stiff stance to keep the ball as straight as possible. On a whim went to Nevada Bobs, saw the program they had going of no interest/payments til '07, saw the Hogans graphite on sale for $499.00, and tried them in the simulator. My shot pattern was alot tighter than the Deep Reds, and felt oh so "sweet" on contact! I also tried the Callaways and Pings but just liked the Hogans feel. Took them to the range today with much trepidation thinking "what if it's horrible out here vs. in the simulator?" Good lord... only one day on the range but I'm in love! No awkward stance, no trying to remember keeping this straight, that steady...nothing. Just line up and swing naturally and it was going where I was aiming. None of that darn draw when I aimed straight, and straight when I played the draw like with the Reds! I was just amazed! Who knows if it's the clubheads or the graphite shaft or both that turned it around for me but I'm so glad I finally stopped trying to make the Reds work for me, golf is gonna be fun again! Of course, the true test will be on the course and I'll try to update this after a few months of play. I'm going back to the range!!!!!!!!! Similar Products Used: Ping G2, Callaway x18. |

Ben Hogan BH-5 Offset
I bought these irons just after they came out at my local Pro Golf Store. I traded my King Cobra oversize irons in. I compared about 5 different irons in this price range (Nike, Mizuno, Cleveland..) but seemed to hit the Hogan's the best in the (God forsaken) non-realistic, simulator. What really won me over was the look of these irons. They are sleek, sophisticated, and serious looking. They have just a hint of Callaway as well, which is not a bad thing. On the course, I found that they made me work a little harder to be accurate, but when they are struck right, it is a beautiful thing! For cast irons, they are very informative in the feel department. While they forgive mis-hits, you can definitely feel them. Overall, I am happy I bought them, and my golf partners like them as well, and that is worth something. Looks may not make 3 irons any easier to hit, but it looks better in the bag (which is where it stays most of the time). Customer Service Didn't deal with Hogan directly, but seem to be a good company. Similar Products Used: King Cobra SS-Oversive |

I just purchased these 1 month ago when I decided it was time to invest in my first set of new clubs. We went to my local pro shot and demo'ed these, the Big Bertha 2004, Nike NDS and Sling Shots, and the Hogan CFT's. I cannot give you a review and shaping shots, etc, nor am I bias from one company to another, b/c I never even heard of Ben Hogan iron's before I am just a beginner (< 1 year playing) and only understand 2 things; Trajectory and feel. Both sets of Nike Irons felt dead but went relatively straight. The only way I could tell a good shot from a bad shot was where the ball was going and felt nothing in the club. The Big Bertha Irons, felt OK, but for some reason I could not hit them straight as ever shot went to the left (I'm a righty). Both the Hogan BH-5's and the CFT's were very nice and I liked the feel of them. If you hit a good shot you felt it, if you didn't you knew the moment you made contact with the ball. I actually preferred the CFT's to the BH-5's, but the BH-5's were more in my budget. I have no regrets purchasing these clubs. My only gripe about the BH-5's is that the Metal seems soft. The sole seems to be getting scratched and messed up a lot faster than my brothers CFT's which still look relatively new after he owned them for a year. Customer Service I have never had to use them, but I have always had good customer service from Callaway and the other Callaway brands (Odyssey), so I wouldn't expect Ben Hogan's to be any different. I've tried these clubs (they belong to a friend). These are forgiving clubs with little bit of offset. They are game improving clubs but one still needs a decent swing or buy the ones with more offset. Pretty good feel for cast irons vs forged irons. Similar Products Used: X-14, 16, 18 Pro Series |

I purchased these after trying them at a pro shop. I didn't get to take them out on a range or anything, but I set out on the course right after they came via UPS. They came with the graphite shafts regular flex. I think I was more prompted to overswing this club because I found a loss of distance, but great forgiveness. After only playing one round, I'll have to agree with Golf Magazine, These won't turn a bad golfer into a good golfer. They are great for shot shapers and I think I would have liked these better with metal shafts. Don't get me wrong, the graphite shafts they come with stock are top of the line, guess it was just a little too much flex for me. I consider myself as a bad golfer, simply because I always want to allow room for improvement. The equipment we (golfers unite!) use is something that should feel natural, and build confidence. I had a good feeling about these irons, but I couldn't get used to the graphite shafts (never owned a set of graphite irons). my shots were just O.K. in distance, and my swing was always sending right or left of the target. Great looking clubs, tons of forgiveness, but, as far as I can see, not the next step, game improvement iron. Cleveland Launcher, or TA6's might be my next choice. Customer Service Never needed them Similar Products Used: Callaway X-18, Cobra CXI's (excellent clubs , Top-flight tour models, Mizuno MP-32's, Ping Eyes |

Having bought and played with these irons, I can say that evrything said so far is accurate. These are great irons, that ofer the playability characteristics of forged blades, with some of the forgiveness of cavity backs. You have to swing well, because they will not reward hacking, but the control and distance are first-rate, in my opinion. The Apex 4 (stiff) shaft is very similar to the DG S300's I had been playing. I found them in practically new condition for $300, making them a considerable value. These are in my bag for the long haul. Customer Service Unknown. Ben Hogan BH-5 irons
I just completed reading the reviews made by others regarding these irons. I certainly can agree on many of the comments I read. I have played with one previous set of Hogans(Directors with the Legend shaft),but, that was about twenty years ago. Hogan quality had "slipped" for a while, but, I certainly think they are making a comeback ,especially since Callaway bought them. The BH-5 for me is a good quality club. It's nice to see Hogan trying to reel in another class of golfer by offering cast verses strictly a forged product.I can fade and draw the ball without difficulty with a BH-5. Obviously not the same "feel" a forged can give you,the BH-5 does it well enough for cast cavity back. One thing Hogan has not missed is the aesthetics. The BH-5 certainly does well there(and that is a contributing factor psychologically in playing better)It's a beautiful looking iron for a midsized head. I have the Standard not the off-set. I hit these irons high(partly to my swing mechanics). They offer some forgiveness on mis-hits,but, not as much as I thought they would. Top down view is real good. You can see some Callaway "influence" in the design, especially the front of the heads. I certainly thought they were better than the review they received in the May,2005, GOLF Magazine club test. These are irons for the 12 to 25 handicapper.I'm glad to be back with Hogan.I have 3-9,PW,SW, and LW. Customer Service My SW and LW were on back order and it took almost 8 weeks to get my SW and 5 weeks for the LW. I didn't care for that, but, that was a company issue and not the retailer(Golf USA). These are great irons. I like the balance and the way they feel in my hand. I've taken 2.5 strokes off my handicap in the past 4 weeks since I put these sticks in my bag. Far superior feel to the 2004 Big Berthas I was using, especially around the greens. They're also very durable which is nice out here in the desert. |
