Model Reviewed: Bridgestone J33 Cavity Backs

Went to demo clubs, not even thinking about Bridgestone’s. Man, was I blown away by the J33 Cavity Backs. Great looking clubs with very little offset with a very thin top line. Sole grind is very nice, also thin. All traits that you don’t usually see in clubs that target mid handicappers.

Hit them in direct comparison with my Mizuno MP 60’s. They are extremely soft yet have a clicky feel and more feedback than the Mizuno’s. Ball flight is mid to high, slightly lower than my Mizuno’s. They offer more forgiveness than their looks would have you believe. More forgiving than the MP 60’s and to me on a par with X Tours. Overall I had to give the nod to the Bridgestone’s in the way of feel, consistency, trajectory, forgiveness – everything was better.

I had gone hoping to like Titleist 695's, nice clubs but didn't work for me. Came away surprised and with a new set in my bag. Overall I think the J33's are a great offering, worthy of a trial for anyone looking for a players cavity.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!! The only way to describe the feel and consistancy of these clubs. This is my first set of forged irons. I have always played the game improvement type(Big Bertha). I wanted a club I could feel and control. Boy did I find them. I just took them to get bent to my specs, can't wait till they get back. Definitly a must try for the mid to low handicapper.

I have been Mr. Mizuno forever (Comp E-Zs, MP-14s, MP-32s) but I recently decided to find a little more forgiveness than the Cut Muscle blade design. Once I tried the J33 Combos, I was hooked.

They are not as buttery as the Mizunos, but that may be a plus because these as a half-club longer at the same lofts and shafts. Even before I had them bent to my specs, I was clipping mid-irons into pins with amazing feel and control. Love the trajectory, which is higher and lands softer than the MPs.

One tip if you buy these - do not get the Bridgestone AirMuscle hybrid instead of the standard 3 iron. This forged cavity back 3 iron is brilliant, and there are better hybrids IMO than this one if you want to go that route.

Simply not all that. Put my favorite shafts and lofts/lie in them and still nothing special actually I would consider them "sub par". I love all the lines but the head is lunky. I believe CG is a little off too...something is just not right because they look great but swing like lead weights. I'm just glad they were cheap..

This is one of the few good irons in the market that I feel anyone should try it when they are out shopping for a new set of irons.

I had used quite a number of different brands of irons before and I dare comment that this is is really one of the few better irons that serve mid to low Hcp easily.

The forging feels very soft and it is quite forgiving as well. I feel that this set feel very much like the tourstage x-blade altought they are priced worlds apart.

This set will stay in my bag for a long time ....

Outstanding!!!! For me, they're the best forged cavity backs out there especially for what you can get them. They also look very sharp. Solid feel, great sole design, beautiful sticks.

I just played my first round with these irons after buying them at a steep discount off retail on Ebay. This would have to rate as one of my best golf investments ever! These are sweet clubs...great feel, very accurate and very forgiving for a forged club. I've been playing Titleist 680 muscle backs for the past several years and Tommy Armour forged 845's before that. While I've only played one round with them so far, they'd rank right at the top. If they keep performing this way, I might have to make another Ebay purchase so that I'll have a backup set! Check them out, you won't be sorry.

I trade my new 735cm titleist for these and love them. they are more forgiving, have a better feel and are more accurate. They have a nice relief on the leading and trailing edge, along w/toe and heal relief to be easier to hit from a variety of lies, unlike the Titleist(which is also a great club). I tried the mp 60 mizunos, bought the 735cm's and ended up loving the bridgestones(to bad I didn't try them first)

I've played LOTS of irons over the past several years, and these are right at the top of my list for feel, accuracy, versatility, and still providing reasonable forgiveness. The design morphs from a muscle/cavity in the long irons to a blade in the short irons and PW. All clubs have a thin topline, which I really like. Offset is minimal, again a plus for me. The soles are relatively thin, but do not tend to dig easily because of the leading edge grind, and there is also heel and toe relief to make them really cut through the turf effectively. Bridgestone is really bringing some superb products to the market lately.
