Callaway X-12 Irons

Callaway X-12 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The 1998 Big Bertha Irons feature all of the game-enhancing characteristics of the Great Big Bertha Titanium irons in a stainless steel head. The sweet-spot of the club has been increased over the standard Big Bertha iron. The weight has been re-distributed around the club and the center-of-gravity has been lowered to create a more heel-and-toe balanced iron. The top line has also been thinned to make this the most playable club Callaway has ever created. (Price for 3-PW Steel Shaft)

I just read the obvious BS review by epridgett and wanted to write in. Let's just say that your story seems a little sketchy: 1. Hit Driver 290-300 yards, but still shoot in the 90's - Yeah! 2. You can apparently hit a Mizuno blade, but you can't hit a Callaway 8 iron. Did I mention the 290-300 yard drives? 3. Direct Quote - "Don't think these or any other club will automatically fix your golf game. You need practice and lessons. Learn the fundamentals and then make sure your clubs fits your style and feel of play. For me it is Forged Blades. " That's why you rushed out and bought the clubs after hitting the 5 iron a couple of times. You must be a brain surgeon. 4. Double Tape - Oh brother! Let's face it buddy, you either can't play golf, or you don't like Callaway. Save the rest of us from reading your review the next time. These clubs are great and that's why they were the best selling iron in history (before the X-14 came along). 5 stars all around.

Well a deall ike this I couldn't pass up. My game has tanked recently and my scores have gone up to high 80's low 90's. Decided that players cb's while feeling nice were probably costing me a few strokes a round. demo'ed the x-14's and hit a few of the x-12's side by side. Wow just as high just as far as or more forgiving and more than 150$ cheaper!! I like the finish better than the x-14's too. As for previous poster whining about offset shovels , maybe he should talk to Parnevik, Sorenstam , Montgomery, Franco, Mediate and all the others who play Callawy off the rack irons, not some custom job ala titleist or TM that we can't get. Seems they have no problem with those offset shovels. Maybe with Anniks playing so well all the women should play Callaway!

I started out playing with Ben Hogan Apex blades, which were totally out of my league as a beginner. I remember the sweet feel and distance I got when I hit one correctly. I was talked into a cavity back club and was told that it would be easier to play with and so I made the switch. I labeled myself a hacker from that point on as I look back. It wasn't until years later I purchased a set that resembled a blade, but was still a cavity back. I hit these pretty well. I also was given a set of apex blades someone didn't want and I hit those for a bit and found that I liked it a bunch. I was talked out of using them and took some lessons and was hitting my “blade like” cavity backs decently, but still didn't feel like home. A playing partner bought the X12's and swore they improved his game. I hit the 5 iron a few times and thought, “Well it went straight maybe I'll give them a whirl.” Bought the X12’s with the Memphis 10 shafts and thought my troubles were over. NOT!!! The X12's to me are big, clunky, and very offset. It felt like swinging a shovel. I was never comfortable at address and found myself altering my swing to accommodate the clubs. I played with them for a month until I said enough!! I hit my friends Mizuno MP 14's and now they are in my bag. All n all, the X12's may be a good fit for some players who need the help of FORCING your hands in front of the ball and some other fundamentals. I had found it odd that I could hit my Taylor Made 320 9.5deg driver with almost no offset 275 -305 yards consistently in and around the fairway and couldn't hit a freakin X12 8 iron. Don't think these or any other club will automagicly fix your golf game. You need practice and lessons. Learn the fundamentals and then make sure your clubs fits your style and feel of play. For me it is Forged Blades.

Customer Service

Didn't have to use it. Although, my clubs came double taped on some irons and single taped on others, which made the feel of each iron different in my hands. Not really a customer service problem rath

I love these irons. I had played the Mizuno Trues and those do not even compare to the X-12s. I had been struggling in mid-season, so I bought a set of new irons. What a difference. The clubs turn my normal straight shot to a slight draw and are more forgiving than the Trues. A lot more. These clubs are long, but as usual Callaway have their lofts lower than normal. The big head inspires confidence, but are ugly as hell and the feel is solid even if hit a rock. Which I hate, but if the ball is near the hole who cares?

Customer Service

The best in the past, but I hear from friends Callaway has become more strict.

I can't begin to tell you how amazed I was when I shot my first round with these clubs. They are long. At least 10-20 yards longer per club than my Ram FX graphite. Even on a bad shot it doesn't want to slice or hook, it just push or pulls slightly. I never pull out any iron longer than a 5, but with these Callaway's, it's given me the confidence to use the 3 iron. For under $700.00 CDN, I'm supprised they weren't all sold in one day. I've waited for 3 years for a deal like this to come. It was well worth it. I have tried Ping O-size, Cobra SS, Callaway X-14's. They were all great clubs but if you want to hit it long and straight, then only X-12 steel can do the job consistently.

Changed from Mizuno T Zoid to these clubs, what a difference, the T Zoid were not a bad club just didn't suit me. Excellent clubs very forgiving which is good and hit the ball 10-15yards further than the Mizunos which is good for the ego but more importantly helps you take an easier swing at the ball. Must admit to being a bit of a Callaway convert but I can't fault their products (except the C4) Great irons, if you can afford them buy them if not beg steal or borrow the dosh.

The long irons are the easiest to hit in the world. The middle irons are very responsive, long, and predictable. The short irons display excellent control, both left and right, and in distance control. I have mine shafted with Rifle 6.0 steel, and these shafts provide me with the ideal weight and trajectory. I routinely hit the 2 iron 255 off the tee, the 5 iron 205, and the 8 iron 170. These are so easy to produce distance with, that a hard swing is unnecessary.

Customer Service

OUTSTANDING! Callaway reshafted from Memphis 10 to Rifle 6.0 shafts for cost, and they paid shipping.
