The head is extremely large and heavy and feel can best be described as a dull thud. Distance is inconsistent and wedge for some reason plays too short. Glad to get rid of them.

Model Reviewed: Callaway X-20 Tour with PX 5.5 shafts

I've been playing these clubs about 12 months and have dropped 5 strokes. Nice clubs especially the the 3i & 4i, I was thinking of carrying hybrids but I can't bring myself to do it. The shafts product a low straight ball flight with spin and don't balloon out like my old Clevelands did. Miss hits come off OK but the best feature of these clubs is the accuracy, like throwing darts. The stock grips aren't great however, you'll probably want to change them straight away, I did (and so 4 stars for value).

I agree with the previous posts regarding the stiffness of the shaft. You'll really want to be swinging fast to use the 6.0 and above although there's not supposed to be much difference between the 5.5 & the 6.0. My driver speed's 110 and I wouldn't want to go any stiffer than 5.5, the feedback is "solid" but not "jarring".

The clubs look OK at address and have a reasonable top line. The clubs aren't as workable as you'd expect give the tour tag but they are workable, they do have some offset. I think they're fine for a mid handicapper after a quality club who can't play every weekend but who doesn't want to look down at a chunky top line and huge offset at address.

Customer Service

I've heard it's OK but I wouldn't know.

I bought these clubs last summer and have been playing to a 2 handicap. I love them... When you hit a flush shot there is nothing like it. These irons are long and accurate. Playing in the wind I'm able to control shots and playability is great. I can work the ball from left to right and right to left with little effort. If your considering between the X-20 and X-20 Tour, one of the major differences is the top line. the tour has a thinner line and just sets up really nice. Forgiveness is great, I notice when I hit a shot off the toe or the heel I'll lose some distance but it still goes pretty straight. Great Clubs from Callaway!

I had the x-18's with a uniflex shaft, sandard loft and lie. Was hitting them great. Down to 6.6 h/cap. Liked the look of the new X-20 Tour irons and had heard a lot of great reviews about the shafts. So i bought a set off the shelf with the 6.0 steel shaft in. Now yes they are a firm shaft but one reviewer said that he couldn't hit them at all as shaft was to stiff...! This guy was taller and heavier than me. I have played 2 rounds with them and i'm nailing every shot. Great control and feel, you know when you have hit it out the sweet spot, no effort. A far better club than the X-18's and thats saying something as i loved those irons. Highly recommend these irons to any middle to low h/cap golfer. Shafts are fantastic, i can see what all the hype was about, they are so true in feel and control. The perfect combo. The grips could do with being softer though, i find them very harsh. Obviously more time will tell about the clubs but you know when you hit a new set of clubs if they are going to work for you or not in a very short space of time. The clubs look far better than the normal chunky Callaway offerings. These irons are more forgiving than the X-forged which i tried with the same shaft in. I normally only keep my irons 3 years so it will be interesting if this set is still in my bag by 2011..? I think so going on what i have seen so far.

Customer Service

I bought these irons from Edwin Watts in Florida whilst on holiday. Half the price and a great service.

I purchased the x-20 tours after heavy consideration between regular x-20's and the tour version. I've been playing x-14's with regular graphite shafts and new my game was in need of an upgrade. Went to the Callaway Performance center (strongly recommended - www.mycallaway.ca), where they recommended the callway FT irons, however i don't like their look.

Bottom line, i learned i was making solid contact with good club head speed and was time to move to a more advanced club.

couldn't be happier. These clubs are beauties, don't have the "shovel" feel of my older clubs and feel so nice when struck.

Customer Service

Very good, callaway performance center fitting was excellent.

have been playing X-14 with graphite regular flexfor a couple years and finally decided to go for an upgrade. Bought these X20 tour and liked them over all. Impacts are more solid and I like them with less offset (I tend to hook a lot with X-14). However, I do find the shafts (M75i-graphite regular flex) are heavier and tiffer than I expected. I know most of you guys are using steel shaft. Since I swing a little slow, can anyone provide some suggestions? Should I change the shafts, stick with them or try other irons?

Never tried

I am purchasing these clubs tomorrow. Have not been on the golf course but have extensively tested on the launch monitor. When hit squarely, these clubs feel like a forged club. When hit off center, you can tell where the ball was struck but you do not have a stinging sensation. Per the launch monitor I was hitting the seven iron 168 yards with a soft draw each and every time tested. As one reviewer wrote earlier, be sure and get fitted for these clubs. The Project-X 6.0 shafts are really stiff. I could not swing them. I,m 6'2 and 220 lbs. I went to the 5.0 flex and they felt great. The newer clubs seem to be stiffer than they use to be, please, do not let your ego override your ability. I am fifty seven, and as my age increases, my club speed decreases. You will play much better with a proper fit. I previously purchased the FT irons on a one test basis and was extremely sorry I did. Lesson learned. Don't purchase on a one trial basis. Go back several times as I have done with the X-20 Tours. Also, friends of mine speak highly of these clubs. Will review further after playing on the course.

Customer Service

As of yet, not needed.

I can tell you that I am a 2 handicap and I bought the X20 Tour clubs this past summer and other than having to wait a long time to get them (stiff shafts tipped by 1" 1 inch over 2 degrees up) they are great clubs. I think they are responsive and i can work the ball freely. One thing I STRONGLY SUGGEST is that you have the clubs fitted by a Callaway certified fitter or even better yeat at a Callaway Performance center. I went to the CPC in New York and was convinced I was buying the X- Forged irons as i was in love with them. By the time I had spent my hour with the fitter on the simulators and computers I was sold on the X-20 tours without the rifled shafts. I simply hit this combination better than anything else.

With all of the technology that is available today it is imperative that you utilize it and get your clubs properly fitted to your game.

Had the clubs for about 5 months and got rid of them as quick as I could. Could not work the ball as much as I wanted to. At the time of purchase I wanted to get serious about my game, and once I bought them, my game only got worse. My senior year of high school I was shooting low 70s, and once I bought them I was in the high 70s. Maybe it was my swing, maybe it was the clubs. Hope this helps.

Model Reviewed: Callaway X-20 Tour, Project X Flighted shafts, 5.0

I strongly believe that these reviews should help other golfers to avoid eventual mistakes already committed by others. These customer reviews are not objective evaluations; they are rather based on subjective experience. But they still can be useful.
This said I can say that heads of X-20 Tour irons are well designed and well made, they are perfectly acceptable for so called better golfers and they are efficient. Also they play with “soft touch”, there is no unpleasant feeling during the contact with ball.
BUT – BE CAREFUL WITH SHAFTS!!! Project X Flighted shafts play stiffer, as all Project X shafts do. As en experienced golfer I am completely convinced that 5.0 frequency, the softest option offered with X-20 Tour irons, is definitely not “Regular” stiffness. It is closer to “Stiff”. For absolute majority of technically advanced and healthy golfers the softest version 5.0 is the only one they can play. SO – be careful, try these shafts before buying these irons and do not go for too stiff options like 6.0 and more.
