Cleveland Halo Irons

Cleveland Halo Irons

DESCRIPTION

The new Halo hybrid utility club will produce shots approximately five to ten yards longer than standard long irons. The Halo hybrid utility offers an extra large sweet spot and a high moment of inertia for increased stability and forgiveness at impact making it easy to hit for golfers of all abilities. Due to its unique sole design, and low and deep center of gravity, this hybrid club is extremely versatile for shots.

Have always been a decent iron player but have struggled at times with my 3 iron and thought I'd give the new vaunted hybrids a try. First tried a Taylor Made Rescue Fairway no-offset and hit nothing but hooks with it. Then I tried the Halo and I'd like to say it was love at first site but... hit low smothers on my first few hits. Re-adjusted because I was originally laying the face open thinking I would hook these and to my surprise I actually had to square the face to almost looking like I was shutting it down a bit. Now I hit them high and with a slight draw. If I leave the face open a small bit I generally block them to the right. So my suggestion is dial these in and experiment with them as they are easier to hit than your long irons.

This is a spectacular club to replace your 3 iron with. I've been struggling with my 3 iron (I try to smack the heck out of it, yielding a poor result). I picked up a Halo 3i (22) (graphite, stiff) for a steal at a local store (someone traded it for a dozen balls). I love it. Dropped the 3 iron out of my bag (~195 yards, hard to hit, generally a fade/slice), replaced with the Halo (~205 yards, easy to hit, generally a gentle draw). What more could you ask for? (well, maybe the Halo 1i to replace my 4w)

I'm a 16 handicapper and I bought these clubs to help me out of the rough when I get in trouble. Did they help? BIG time! These clubs are by far the most confidence inspiring clubs in my bag, next to my wedges. But then again, the short game (chipping) is my strength. So it's saying a lot that long iron replacements are "confidence inspiring', in my case. Even if you're a low handicapper, IMO, this club will help you. Well done, Cleveland!

Model Reviewed: Halo 3 and 4I stiff flex

I love cleveland products and because of my passion, I have to try the halos. The 3I stiff is what I have and I absolutely love it. 200 yards par 3 are now "no problem" for me. 205-215 yard approach is as easy as my 150 yards approach. I used to lay up with my 175 yards shot in the par 5 before I got the halo and now it's all halo for par 5 lay up. My driver swing speed is between 95-100 mph, the stiff is just a bit too stiff for me. I block a lot at first until i added a tiny lead tape at the bottle of the heel. I now hit it very straight with a slight fade if necessary. The regular shaft has a nice kick which I should get. It gets the ball up in the air even easier than the S version. If it's in the thicker rough, it cuts right thru it unlike the sonartec md which I also love. So if you're not hitting a lot of fairways, not a problem for halo. One thing that requires time to adjust to is the strange look of the head. It has a straight cavity on top for whatever reason. The height of the 3I is great, it flies high and drops. On the other hand, the 4I is a bit too high which you could fix by the ball positioning. A must buy if you're having problem with your long irons.

Model Reviewed: Halo Hybrid #2 19*

I needed a fairway wood, but have been trying out a lot of hybrids because I am a guy who has been struggling with FWs. Knowing hybrids are meant to be long iron (NOT fairway wood) replacement, I started with a conservative objective: forgiving and 10-20m less than FW range (200m). My benchmarks were my trusty clubs: Nickent 3DX hybrid#4,23* (range=160m) & Launcher460 driver (range=200m). So, I went shopping and tried hybrids from Nickent (3DX #3,20*), Masker, Wilson Staff, etc ... except TM-Rescue (too pricey). And also had a chance to try my friends clubs, one of them the HALO(#3), Cleveland first hybrid club. First hit on the driving range, it went 170m, further than me 3DX. Not only it can hit far, it also felt extremely familiar, just like the Launcher460. The HALO is just right for me. So, I bought HALO#2,19* and started hitting 180m, exactly what I needed? I am quite sure more distance can be harnessed once the swing is tuned. Nonetheless, I am still keeping my 3DX, it feels more iron-like, workable with various swings. HALO is more wood like, with large and forgiving sweet-spot it launches just about anything it comes into contact, quite like the FWs (minus a few meters). In my opinion, it is also reasonably priced (between the cheaper 3DX and pricey TM). Kudos Cleveland, you did it right on the first try.

Haven't been happy with the way I've been hitting my Ping G2 3 wood & 7 wood's. So I decided to trade them in on a 16 & 22 degree Halo. My thinking was the shorter shaft of the steel shafted halo would improve my accuracy. I hit the Halo's a lot straighter than the big fade I developed with the G2's. Distance with the 22 Halo is about the same as the G2 7 wood with better accuracy for sure. The Halo's have a nice solid feel. With the shorter shaft on the Halo's I'm probably giving up a few yeards but I'd rather be short and in the short grass than long and in the trees. Don't get me wrong the G2's are great woods, for me at 5'8" the shorter shaft & control seems to be better for now.....

While I liked the Cleveland Launcher Ti 3W and 5W I had trouble consistently hitting them. One day I walked into a golf store and tried out the Cleveland Halo 3i and it felt amazing. I hit it for about ½ hour and could not believe how good it felt. After hitting the 3i for a while, I picked up the Ti 5W and it just did not feel as nice. The Halo 3i has an amazing weight distribution that just allows the club head to seemingly just drop into the slot to square back up to the ball. I can hit a draw with this club where it was pretty difficult to do that with my 5W. This club has allowed me to take my 5W and 3 iron out of my bag. I also purchased the 1i as well. It’s a sweet club that has now replaced my 3W. These clubs are great off the tee, fairway, and rough!

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Halo 3i 22 degree

I have been unable to get my Cleveland 15 degree 3 wood to work consistently for me, so I finally decided to try out a Halo. After one round with the Halo, there is no longer a place in my bag for a 3 wood. I hit probably 100 balls on the range the first day I had my Halo. I was hitting at a green 205 yards out, and I was hitting it about 5 or 6 times out of 10. This is much better than the 1 time out of 10 I can manage with my 3 iron, so that's permanently removed from my bag as well. I cannot praise this club enough. It sets up great and is just so easy to hit. I tend to draw it and have been unable to slice it even if I try. It lands the ball very softly and is ever so consistent on distance. I can't wait to pick up a 19 degree to be able to reach out a little bit farther off the tee, but I used my 22 degree Halo very effectively on short par 4s on the one round I've played with the club. This is the most satisfying club I've ever purchased.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Halo 1i (16 Degree)

I have the 1i (16 degree) which is equivalent to a 4 Wood (approx) I've been chopping and changing equipment lately and I needed something with more consistency on short troublesome par 4's. I don't have much problem with distance off the tee so I got the steel shaft option (Dynamic Gold SL Stiff). If you have a medium to quick tempo you will achieve good results. I have found while experimenting with it that slow swings will be punished with a leak to the right. This is probably down to the shaft. A regular shaft should eliminate this. Ball flight is low but I am getting approx. 30 yards of run when the ball hits the ground. It usually runs out to about 250 yards but at a push I can squeeze another 20 yards. The cosmetics of the club are a plus. The paint finish on the clubhead is about 1/2" behind the top of the club face, so you don't have to worry about sky marks catching your eye at address. The other thing which I would like to share is that I think any beginners who are starting should avoid fairway/utility clubs with graphite shafts. The extra few yards that you get over steel are not worth the bother if you are going to be playing from the rough all the time. Being 10 yards short and in the fairway is more important than distance. Cleveland have a sleeper here with utility club. Anyone thinking of buying one should demo this before parting with their cash. Once again Cleveland is a company who doesn't have to spend lots of money on advertising, their products speak for themselves.
