I can't beleive you can build a club that beats the pants off the higher priced name brand clubs. This clubs are sweet. I built them with True Temper Dynamic Gold Stiff and made them 3/4 inches longer basically for my son. He didn't like them so I started using them. I never thought blades were for me but they perform. I just need to cut them down to normal size.

These are the best. For the price & labor of building your own, it WILL save you $100's. Plus you build them to suit you. I'm a 10 hdcp. & can get more feel working these than any other club I've tried. Shafts are the most important. You must find the shaft that fits your swing speed. I built them with TT Sensicore S300's. Was considering Rifles, but sensicores seemed more consistant. Rifles work great with these heads also, but it was a personal preference. Senicores felt a little softer & smoother. Grips make a difference too. IMHO Winn are the worst. Tried a few & they came apart just from bag wear. I have never seen a Winn grip go more than 2 weeks without signs of wear & tear. May be a great putter grip, but... Go with GolfPride, Lamkin or a rubber tour wrap. This head & the Tour Cavity Forged are the best heads Golfsmith makes. I previously played the Cavity forged. The Pro Forged are as forgiving. The muscle back design digs in a little more. They are very similar to the Mizuno's. I think they are forged in the same factory. I took the step & made my own clubs. Couldn't be happier.

While I am a 90s golfer, I have a natural affinity for blades and musclebacks. I built these this summer with TT Gold-lite shafts and Golfpride Tour Grips. They took some time to get used to but after a few days I could make the shots I wanted and found I could used them to reach the greens, or very close, with some consistancy. They take a more careful swing but the feel when hit and the true flight of the ball are worth all the effort. I plan to put together a set of the Golfsmith Tour Cavity Forged and then mix and match.

These clubs are amazing. I hesitantly switched from cavity back irons to these blades and my game is improving. Due to the fact the head is smaller it requires you to concentrate more on your swing which in turn makes you a better golfer. The appearance at address is beautiful, nice thin top line that lines up perfectly. I had these shafted with True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shafts which produces a nice boring trajectory on the long irons and a high accurate short iron shot. If you are dedicated to improving your game I highly recommend you give this combination a try. I forgot to mention they are less than half the price of competitors.

Customer Service

I didn't need much assistance but they were helpful with a few questions.

The Similar Products Used field got messed up in my review - here's the rest of what I wanted to say - ...but my Pro Forgeds are in great shape after hitting many, many practice shots with them. For me the durability of the Pro Forgeds more than make up for any loss of feel in comparison to the Mizunos.

I'd heard that the duffers of this world (me) need to go with game improvement clubs in order to get the best out of their game, but as a former game improvement club user, I'm here to tell you that these Golfsmith Pro Forged clubs have improved my game like no other clubs I've used in the past. This spring I built an abreviated set (3,5,7,9,PW - Dynamic Gold XL100 shafts, Lamkin tour grips) of the Pro Forgeds, and I'm finding that a well struck shot with these clubs is SO rewarding in feel and the distance the ball travels - and a forged club even SOUNDS better than than a cast club when it strikes the ball - that it's almost forcing me to learn how to swing a golf club properly so that I can enjoy the rewards of a well struck shot with these clubs. The sweet spot on these clubs is as generous as any club I've ever used, and I've learned that the harsh feeling one gets from forged clubs on miss hits is the result of a too tight grip pressure. I'm learning to relax my grip, and as a result harshness on the occasional miss hit is a non-issue. And the cool thing is, as I'm learning to relax my grip pressure, I'm also hitting the ball squarely on a more consistant basis, the ball is going farther, and I'm hitting it more accurately... it feeds off of itself. I wish I had learned about building my own golf clubs years ago, because it's great to be able to experiment with different shaft lengths and what-not, and I love being able to repair bent or broken shafts (don't ask) for only a few bucks. And it's going to be nice to replace worn out clubs without having to buy a whole new set. As an aside, I built a Tour Cavity Forged 5 iron to test in comparison to the Pro Forgeds, and to me miss hits with the Tour Cavity Forged are quite a bit harsher than with the Pro Forgeds. Go figure.

Golfsmith has a couple of retail stores in Chicago that I go to which are real nice, but the custom components that I want are sometimes out of stock.

These clubs are amazing. Just one look at them and it inspires confidence. Just purchased clubs from ebay and only played one round with them. However, I can say that you get excellent feedback on shots and it really focuses you on your swing. The clubs have Rifle 6.0 shafts which provides for a nice high ball flight. I am amazed at the bite of these clubs, several times with a wedge they chewed the covers off of a new ball. I must say that the minimal offset and thin topline make these clubs aesthetically pleasing at address. Highly recommended.

I built these myself with Rifle Stepless S shaft 5.5 With Players softie grips. I used to have a 18 handicap Now playing with my own I now have a 10 handicap. i plan on making Forged PW, SW,AW,LW to complete my set.I have been told by my wife that GolfSmith is my second home next to the Course. This season I plan to drop my handicap even more. The feel of forged clubs is a totally different feel all together. I tried others but like GolfSmiths Forged Irons.

If you are looking for a new set of blades their is no reason to spend $700-$1200. Get on ebay or the golfsmith web site and order a set of these with your specs 2-LW. These are the absolutely with out a doubt the finest set of golf clubs I have ever owned thats including Titleist 681, Nike, Mizuno MP33,Cleveland TA1, Hogan Apex, Kennith Smith, KZG,etc...I don't understand how this company can afford to make a product like this and sell it for the price they do, but I know that until I wear a hole in these they are staying put. P.S. If you buy direct from golfsmith they will rechrome, regrip, and regroove your Pro Forged irons for free!
