Model Reviewed: MacGregor NVG2 Mid irons

I've been playing the NVG2 Mid irons now for two years, and they are a very solid set of irons. I bought these as a new set of heads, and had them shafted with TT Dynalite Gold SL stiff steel shafts. They are long, very accurate, and simply one the most enjoyable sets of irons I have ever played. I am a 62 years-young woman golfer, been playing golf 50 years, and up until eight years ago played off a 4 handicap. An auto accident ended that, so I had to go looking for a set of easier to play irons to replace my MacGregor 1025CM's. These clubs fit the bill perfectly. I still generate above-average swing speed for a woman golfer(irons @88mph/driver @98mph these days), so the Dynalite Gold SL's in stiff flex seem ideally matched to these great heads and my current game. I highly recommend the NVG2 Mid irons to anyone with a repetitive swing looking for a great set of irons for not a lot of $$$.

Customer Service

MacGregor as it once was is no more, so I doubt that the high level of customer service is there anymore. When Don White was the master clubmaker there -- Mac was the best!

Model Reviewed: Macgregor NVG2

I bought a set of MacGregor NVG2 to see it it would help my game but I just can't hit with them. I don't know if it's because of the shafts (regular and too light), if it's the address position, these clubs just don't feel right. I am a fairly mediocre player, but for some reason I only enjoy playing with blade irons (I have the Macgregor M675). Must say I was very disappointed, specially after the reviews I had read here.

These irons scream 'Super Game Improvement' but that's OK with me. For the past several years I've been playing Ping ISI Ni irons with varied success. Last year I finished as an 4.5 hp but this year, even though I'm playing more often, my hp is creeping toward a 7. Mostly due to a tougher course change, but also I feel my ball striking is just not as solid as it was.

I purchased the NVG2 irons last year but kept playing the pings because I was playing well. Today I decided put the Macgregors in the bag to see if I could resolve some ball striking issues with a little change up.

Well it worked. I hit every iron solid en route to a 76. The round would have been even better if I hadn't drove a ball OB on 13 the 3 putted for a triple bogey.

I will say the the NVG2's felt a little awkward around the greens but that will take a little work to get the feel down.

But all in all, these irons are very stable and a club longer than any other I have played. I would rate these a solid 9 out of 10. Only the lack of feel around the greens stop my from saying these are a solid 10.

Customer Service

I have email Macgregor in the past and they were always prompt in their response.

I do feel that Macgregor lacks in products for the LH golfer.
