MacGregor Tourney MT Irons

MacGregor Tourney MT Irons

DESCRIPTION

Made from 304 stainless steel. (nearly as soft as forged carbon) the MT offers similar feel and response to McGregor's handcrafted forged irons. However feature greater forgiveness (and a MUCH lower price tag) than their forged brothers.

Couldn't keep my eyes off this beautiful set of clubs when 1st saw them. The look is so appealing (have to admit Ben Hogan Apex is the best looking club I've seen).
In fact, I didn't hit these clubs as well as I hit with other clubs during the "weed-out" process. But I realized I wouldn't use'em if I didn't like'em. I think it's the "mental" part in golf.
These clubs are very forgiving yet you can feel whether or not you hit a good shot.
Been using them almost a year. I like the set so much I've recently bought 2 more MT wedges, 56 degree and 60 degree, to match it. They are BEAUTIFUL!!! I have some scratches on the back of the 56 degree wedge. It broke my heart! Anyway, they are very good wedges around the greens. I feel confident to pull them out from the bag because I know I will hit well with them. As a matter of fact, I holed from 50 yards with my 56 degree wedge yesterday during the round.
In conclusion, it may not be an ideal set of clubs for scratch or low-handicapped players who need solid feedback and want to be able to shape the shots. As far as game improvment is concerned, these are the right clubs to consider. I guarantee people will check them out when you show up in the club house with these beautiful irons and wedges.
Enjoy the game!

Simply the best irons I've ever hit or played. When I wanted a new set of irons last fall, I hit Ping I3s, Evos, Apex Plus, Mizuno Sures, Cleveland TA-4s and TA-5s and Titleist 981s. All were good irons, with the Pings head and shoulders above the rest. Then I stumbled on these. They are:
-Beautiful
-Classic looks at address
-Not too much offset
-Not a huge clubhead
-Made from soft 604 carbon steel.
They look like a player's club.
But they are very forgiving, especially on thin shots. I gave up no forgiveness or distance (maybe even gained a little in carry) over my former game improvement designs and gained the feel of a forged iron. Flushing a shot with one of these is the reason we play the game. Unbelievable feel. For a player's club, I hit them better than clubs that are supposed to help you out. The thinner sole and good cambering help you knife shots out of the rough quite easily.
Another thing: the technology in this club is well hidden: it does have game improvement features, they are just not obvious unless you look closely. One of the MacGregor reps said that this iron was one of their best ever designs, which is saying something when you look at how many Masters MacGregor irons have won.
Make sure you get the right shaft.
After 4 years of indecision and iron-lust, these are in the bag to stay. There are few other designs out there that make me look twice (I3s, maybe, but they cost a mint). These are the best value in an iron out there.
Anyone can play them, from a 100-shooter to a scratch golfer. Don't hesitate to demo these.

Customer Service

Not personally, but I've heard they are great....they've sent a friend of mine bag tags, pens and hats because he took the trouble to compliment them on these irons. Now that the company has had an infusion of cash, they're back on track

Played for two years with some old Bristol Victuras from the 70's? out of my dad's basement and wanted to upgrade. Looked around casually for months, but nothing really caught my eye. Went to the IMG golf expo and tried out a number of different irons. I had been looking at the PCBs by Macgregor after hearing they were returning to their roots: quality, craftsmanship, etc. I hit the MT's and realized I needed the forgiveness they offered. Hit them again the next day at Golf Galaxy and was able to work them fairly well, in spite of their decidedly good forgiveness. They are LONG. Lofts are fairly strong, which is fine, and they are absolutely beautiful to look at. Got them with the DG S-300, .5" long and 1 degree upright for $290 thanks to a price matching + 10% policy they have along with the internet price from Edwin Watts. I can't wait to get them, looking forward to giving the old man a run for his money when I get back to Georgia with them. Do yourself a favor and don't throw your money away on Callaways, Pings, Taylor Made, etc. until you check these out. You will probably be very pleasantly suprised. As far as I am concerned, MacGregor IS back.

These irons are fantastic. They are better than several others costing almost double. I hit and compared them to Callaway X-12, King Cobra II, Mizuno, etc, and to me these felt the best. Very forgiving, yet strong. They also LOOK beautiful. Very good buy.

I bought these clubs in June had hit everything but kept comparing all to the Tourney MTs. Then they went on sale for $299 at Edwin Watts and I made my order. I shoot in the 90s and I love these clubs!! They look so good, and the feedback you get on shots is unreal. My 1st round out with them I shot a personal best 88. At my level of play I assumed I should be hitting a game improvement club, but I hit these better. And they have made me want to practice more and swing even better. Even the distances of these clubs are more than I got from others. If you can still get them do it!! I dont think Ill be in the market for a new set for a long time.

Good feel, good control, most importantly, very accurate. My set is a 1999 model. I just paid $299.99 at a mail order store. Great deal. The Mizuno True Forged is on sale too for $349.99, they are good irons but the MT is much easier to hit and it looks much better than Mizuno. MT's distance is in between Tommy Armour 845 original and Mizuno True. I personally like them all but I feel the MT is the most friendly one.

My last set was a full set of Spalding Elite. They were good as far as starter clubs go but I was getting better so I tried all the different cavity back and power blade irons I could. The MacGregor's were by far the best. The first shot that I hit at the range was crap but I've been hitting good to awesome shots since then. For the extremly good they are very nice and have good trjectory, distance, accuracy and feel. I went from a 16 handicap to a 5 handicap after using these babies! Just for your info I hit my Spalding 5 iron about 190 yards. I hit my Tourney 5 iron a healthy 210-20 now. Thank you MacGregor!

I've had these irons now for just over a month and decided to provide an update. I'm thrilled! These irons just get better each time out, with the soft supple feel of forged, and just enough forgiveness to make each shot a pleasure, even when your not a your best. Absolutely the best feeling cast clubs on the market, bar none. Gives any forged product a run for its money IMO. Another plus are its looks. I get comments each round about how sweet these irons look. Beautiful design, and the chrome just glistens when clean. Definatley worth a look if your seriously considering new equipment.

Customer Service

Sent an email to MacGregor commenting on how much i enjoyed these irons i purchased. Recieved a personal email back the next day from the National Sales Manager who then sent me a box of goodies including a cap, tees, pens, and a brass bag tag. Great people work at MacGregor Golf.

This club is the perfect club for someone who is decent, but wants to get better. You can still get away with bad swing here and there without performance being penalized except on the worst mi$hit$ (I guess the previous word is profane when spelled with an 'S'), yet you definately feel when you did not catch the sweet spot. The feedback is more than ample and after playing a "game imporvement" club for 5 years it is great to actually know when you made a good swing or got away with a bad one. I have one complaint and it is not with the 3 - pw, so I still give "the set" 5 stars. I can hit the gap and sand wedges exactly the same distance. I am taking them back to Edwin Watts to see if there is something wrong with the loft of either of them. Clubs are great, but be careful of Edwin Watts. I frequent two of their stores here in the atlanta area. I went to the one near my work and they really gave me the runaround about getting the clubs extended and regripped. I will not go to that one again. The one on PLeasant Hill is very nice though.

Customer Service

second to none, I emailed MacGregor and told them how much I enjoyed playing their irons and they sent me a free hat and I don't mean one with the mesh back either it is the one they sell in the pro shop. Customer Service is "above and beyond"

My second favorite set of clubs behing the Callaway S2H2's. As a blade they are more forgiving than my old Wilson Staff Musclebacks, but still able to work the ball either way. Mis-hits are still short as is the rule with blades, but when you hit is pure or almost dead pure, the results are special. Unless you're below a 10, I would not recommend since not very forgiving. Also, these culbs tend to rust, but MaCGregor will refurbish.
