First off let me start by noting that I never post reviews. I do not have an established handicap, don't really care what it is. I have been a career high 80's to low 90's golfer. My first set of forged irons were a set of Mizuno MP Grads. From there I got a great deal on a set of Mp30's. I hit those for about 3 years and loved them. Just recently I have been wanting to hit blades so I started looking for used sets of MP32", 33"s and 14's. I came across a set of MP14's for a 120 bux on craigslist and the rest is as they say, "history." These are beautiful clubs with a look of history to them. When you sole these clubs on the ground and see the club next to the ball, you just know you can hit a good shot. The thin profile gives you a feeling of just you and the ball and nothing else. As you take one last look at the flag, you can hear the echoes of all the posts you will have read..."you're not good enough to hit blades.." You start your backswing and you hear one last cry..."You need to be a low handicapper..." your downswing descends and the ball connects with the heart of your club...a pured 7 iron launches the ball high and straight. The green recoils from the thud of a small meteor that is your golf ball. You reach into your pocket and grab your divot repair tool. The sound of Sinatra now fills your head...because you are about to go dancing. Spend the time on the range and you will hit these clubs as good as any other club, cast or cavity backed. The difference is the reward you get from a) The soft feel of forged steel b)the look on peoples faces when they see you are playing with blades c)the fact that you pushed yourself to be a better golfer by hitting blades. D)The fact that you did not listen to the status quo of "not being good enough to hit blades" The rewards in life are greater when the road to achieving your goals is difficult.

I have played these clubs for about 8 years. Played a few other sets before including KZG, Cobra, Tommy Armour (great starter sets BTW), Taylor Made and various other loaners including the 29's and 32's. I had a friend recommend them to me...something about Tiger playing them...so I went on eBay and bought them for a couple hundred bucks. Standing over them for the first time is a little intimidating especially for someone who was shooting in the upper 90's (got her down to a 6 since) with cavity backs. Took my first swing, felt the heaviness of the club head throughout the swing and then contact. Couldn't believe the feeling and the results. Now, don't believe that you are gonna drop strokes as a result of playing these but I can tell you this. You will not lose yardage, you will not spray them all over the course and you will enjoy the feeling of playing with clubs that let the owner drive. If you get them fit with the correct shafts (for me the Rifle 6.5) you will love these forever. I highly recommend the Rifles because of their consistency and because they also dampen vibration. You just don't get those two variables consistently with the True Temper. I actually have two sets of 14's now (getting one restored to a black oxide finish) just so that I will never be without one. I don't play hybrids and carry a three wood only for certain par 4's and par 5's. The reason is because the 1, 2 and 3 irons are outstanding. Long and straight. The mid irons are even better. My playing partners are constantly amazed at the length of the 7 and 8. Pure joy in hitting them. Now...I am not a fan of the MP-14 SW, GW or LW. Much prefer my Cleveland's. Just don;t have the same feeling at impact. Can't explain it. Maybe I just haven't found the right combination of shaft, grip and such for the wedges yet. Final thoughts --- For the money these are the best that I have hit. As prices drop these are now almost criminally available for all to play. Maybe don't buy a whole set --- maybe you get one club to try (I recommend an 8) and see for yourself how they feel. Good luck!

let me tell you, getting a fake set of TM tour preferred was the best thing that happened to me. I was playn a set of mp 32's which I love! but was at a tourny and played with a guy tha was play that set of TM. after the round I was curious bout playn blade stlye cavities like the tour preferred's so I ask to trade and he said yes. anyways I took them in to trade for the nike tw blades and found out they were fakes. so while I was worried bout what to do, I stumbled on a set of mp14's which I've never heard of. (made in 99, started golf in 03) they were r300's I always played stiffs. so was a little reluctant to try them but since I called the guy who gave me fakes and he said yes he'll return my set. he's in milwaukee and im in st. paul, was gonna take bout 3 days to send, didn't have any clubs so I decided to demo 14's. all I can say is WOW! I was drooling over these! I picked up 10 to 15yds per club! was hitting 8 iron 150yds now 165 carry! not sure if its the shaft or what? my 32's felt like butter, 14's feel like melted butter! these clubs are so soft. I find them more forging and easier to hit than 32's. I can hit my 3 and 4 irons again. was using hybrids. now keep in mind Im a club hore! I've been thru 10 sets easy these by far are the longest and straitest. small head makes u swing at it more! these are not for sweepers and pickers. they are for people who compress the ball and take divots! love the 14's got em in great condition for 180. paid 18.00 after all my trade in with my spare clubs.. would recommend these to anybody

First off, I normally shoot in the mid 80s. I've always preferred blades because of the feedback you get from a good and bad shot. I've used a Nike knock-off, and Zevo blade set recently. On craigslist, I came across The mizuno MP 14s with 3-PW and 2 wedges for $90. I always wanted to try a nice set of blade style irons, and it was probably the best purchase (next to my putter) that I have made. I shot an 84 the first time I played them hitting the 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and PW at least one time each during the round. Not bad considering my driver should have never been taken out of my bag. I use hybrids as apposed to lower irons, but love the mid and high range irons. They feel great when struck correctly, and let you know when you do not hit them good. They also stop better on the green than any other club I have ever used. I'll be hitting these clubs for a long time to come.

I saw these on the wall of a golf shop 5 years ago and asked about them because they looked new. They were returned by someone who custom ordered them and couldn't hit them. So I bought them for a song with the intention of using them as my 2nd set at the cottage.

They came with a regular shaft but I replaced them with a set of Rifle 6.0 and had them bent upright. What I like about these is that a blade forces you to take a very deliberate swing or you won't hit it square and it will rattle your bones. It's almost as if you're treating every shot as a bad lie and that makes you a better player. Hit these in the center of the club face and you don't feel a thing. When I wear them out I'm going to have them regrooved and rechromed. They should reissue these as a 6 through lob wedge and then anyone could hit them.

Been playing these irons since I was a junior in high school. For the last 9 years I have had the MP 14. Only change I made was the shafts (Rifles). Great irons and still to this day are performing excellent.

Up until recently, I've been hitting the Cobra CXIs- a pretty typical iron by today's standards. I can usually drive the ball about 280 yards, but I did not get the same type of distance with my irons. For instance, I would only hit my 7 iron about 147 on average. I looked up online what some of the best irons of all time were- that is where I first came across these. I realized that I had a Mizuno in my trunk that a family friend had given a few years back. Sure enough it was an MP-14. When I was at the golf course today and about 157 yards out from the pin, I hit my CXI 6 iron about 5 yards short and to the right of the green (I would always fade with the CXIs). I figured- what the heck, why not see how well I could hit the same with the Mizuno 7 iron. I hit the ball about a yard away from the pin (which was back btw)!! Not only that, but it was the smoothest contact I've ever felt in an iron before. Forget the myth that these are only for low handicappers (although I shoot in the 90s, I make good contact with the ball usually, but I just need work on my short game), I'm a 24 and I love em! The funny thing is that these even have a higher loft than other irons. Sure enough, I just ordered a set for 100 bucks tonight and am selling my CXIs.

Bought these used after reading lots of reviews. I'm a new golfer, three years in, but after two seasons with a set of game improvement irons, I decided it was time to find out if I coud play forged blades. Got a set online used for a bargain price, put new tour velvet grips on and went out and played. Love the look of these clubs, they tell you right away that you need to hit the sweet spot, and by the way there is not a large one to work with. Myself, I am not a range player, it drives me crazy to hit balls without a target in mind. First impression, I found out really fast that my swing needs work, and these clubs tell me exactly what I ned to do. Hit it wrong and you know it right away. Hit right and oh boy, sweet as silk. Funny thing is, these are what tell me when I hit wrong. The game improvement clubs tell me nothing, good or bad, it felt the same. I feel my game has improved a great deal since I have gotten them and my scores reflect it. I've dropped at least 12 strokes/round since I bought them. I'm still a hacker, but I know these clbus will help get me even lower.

WOW! need i say more. such great irons. the positive feedback from this thread made me buy a great used set with s300 shafts for the bargain price of $82. just needed to regrip and off i went to play.

the trajectory on the balls remind me of the titleist 690.mb but lack the disctance due to the loft. it's a shame the japanese have discontinued making these irons and opted to merge mp14 and mp29 to form another great set of irons -- the mp33-- which is also discontinued...

will continue to use such classic iron set with my 690.mb both are great to hit but i've yet to be consistent with the mp14 3-iron. proably just lack of confidence from the smaller head.

i would encourage others to try a set. they're cheap as chips...cost less than my t-zoid

Review number 100 for MP-14 ... yaaa!
I am 42, only played golf in 1 year - from may 2006. When I started all newcomers could use clubs for free in a periode; but as full member all of us wanted their own clubs. A lot of them bought cheap sets for beginners, some started with better sets. Not one of them, I know, still have the set they have started with. All of them have new irons in bag in the end of the 2007 season. Their clubs look nice, some of them very sophisticated in design .. yes it all look nice. Most of them plays much more than I do. I have just not the time for it. But most of them do not play better than me.
I bought my first irons used, it was the MP-14`s irons with S300 shaft, after reading a lot of reviews, mainly here. I just liked the nice blade design MP-14 has. They just looked like real golf-irons. If I could not play with them, they was easy to sell, I knew. But I will never go selling them.
The first season I got pain in my chest. I talked with the pro about this and he shaked his head when I told him the irons I used.
This season I only got problems with my arms, they are hurting a bit. Why am I still playing with these stiff-shafted bladeirons? Because I just love play golf with them. The feel when you hit the ball right is just amazing ... you feel it in your whole body and it gives you a kick.

These irons just push you to play better, than mainstream irons do. The line up must be precisly, your swing also; but when you have hit the ball you allways know the shot was good or bad. You get a smaller sole, but you know where you have it. I admit the shaft S300 is to stiff for a beginner; but I still want the "hard feelings".
I have bought some used ordinary clubs with cavitybacks; but they are just not in the same league as MP-14.
Heard Tiger Woods used them some time ago. Sometimes I feel just like him.
