An iron not for the average golfer. This iron truely gives you instant feedback as soon as you make contact. Not very forgiving on offcenter hits. Very workable and I love them when I play often. Now since I don't play as much, I am looking for another set. But these clubs will always be classics.

I bought a set of these irons last month on E-bay after reading the reviews on this site. I have been playing my trusty Pine-Eye 2 (square grooves) for 10 years and I am never going back! I like the fact that the club head is smaller. It gives me less chance of hitting the ball fat - there's simply less club to hit the ground. My tempo has improved greatly - I simply don't swing as hard. I can move the ball around - left to right, right to left, high, low, etc..... I only usually play 9 at a time - my last 4 rounds of nine have all been sub-40 - In fact, I shot 37 with a triple and a bogey last week! Now I know why pros play blades.

I want to start out this review by directing something to mid to high caps. Don't believe the crap about not being good enough to play blades. These clubs forced me to be a better ball striker, by giving me the feedback I needed on bad shots. I played calloway X 12 and 14s for 3 yrs my handicap hung around 19. I have been playing the mizuno's for five months now 1 to 2 rounds per week. My handicap now is 8.4 the only change in my bag has been the irons. I have changed shafts several times to get the ball flight that I like to play. Now lets talk about the mp 14s these are the best feeling clubs I have hit. And the consistent ball flight is like no other. You can hit ten balls with a eight iron and there will not be more than 2to3 yds. difference in distance. Try that with a cast club? The first thing you will notice about this club is that they are head heavy, compared to others. Which is a good thing, you always know where the head is and takes less effort to hit quality shots. You don't have to be a big hitter to enjoy this club. A nice easy tempo will result in the most beautiful thing in golf, a ball coming in on the flag. These are the best game improvement clubs out there, the sweet spot is larger than you would think. So take your game to the next level. You can pick up a set on ebay for around $150

I've always love using blades for their look & feel. MP-14 is one of the finest beauty iron blades out there. But my ball flight path is too high with these, so I switched to Mizuno MP-29 with 2° stronger loft. Overall MP-14 rocks!

Model Reviewed: Mizuno MP-14 with stiff sensicore steel shafts

If your reading these reviews chances are you are feeling the same way I did when I was looking for a set of irons. You want to know whether your a good enough ball striker to go out and buy forged blades. The only sure-fire way to know this is to go out and try them which is what any logical person will inform you to do. I was also worried if I was consistent enough to play these irons so I did just what I'm telling you to do. Buying these irons was a good move for my golf game. For me, feel is everything. I like to feel the club head throughout the swing and know it's status (open, closed, square). I also like to know where on the clubface I hit the ball. The MP-14's statisfied both of these for me. They have a little heavier head than most irons you see these days which I absolutely love. It lets me know where the head is throughout the swing. I know some are going to say that the shaft plays a huge roll in this area and those people are correct. That's why I love the sensicore shafts. But the weight of the club also affects this. Not only is this something that I wanted for full shots but it also comes in handy for finesse shots around the greens. With a heavier iron you don't have to be so "handsy," you can let the weight of the iron get the ball going. Not only do these irons let me know where the head is during the swing, they also let me know where I'm making contact on the face. If you hit it sweet its like hitting a ball of warm butter. If you hit it bad, your gonna feel quite a little sting go up your arms, especially if its cold. But the most important thing is the shots that are not totally great, but are not competely terrible. To me this is where these irons shine. I know exactly where I'm hittting the ball without having to look at the face for a ball mark. Knowing that, along with being familar with your own swing, it's easier to make mid-game adjustments. Bottom line is that these irons have made me a better golfer. It could be because they require me to focus more and with my old "game improvement" irons I wasn't having to focus much to make good contact. These irons force me to focus on what I want with each shot, and in return I'm scoring lower. Could it just be mental? Yes, but golf is a mental game much more than it is physical. If you want an iron thats going to leave you in the fairway with more options to attack the pin with, then give this irons a shot. Also, for those of you that must know what these irons did to my distance. Last year when I got them they didn't really affect my distance at all. They were about the same as my Lynx Black Cats with graphite shafts. The only difference is the MP-14's gave me a little higher ball flight which landed on the greens softer. Now this year I'm hitting my irons about a half-club longer than I ever have in my life. I'm not going to be quick to say it's the irons but I'm definitely not going to say that it isn't.

A previous review mentions the inappropriateness of these clubs to the plus 80 golfer. I cannot comment on that other than to say that scientifically established game improvement features do not help when the club does not look or sound right. It is true that long iron/fairway wood performance is the most significant difference between strong amateurs and pro players (Cochran and Stubbs). My personal experience of the MP-14s is that they are a pleasure to play. I find them them much more "forgiving" than old-style blades of the 50s-60s (Wilson, MacGregor, Hagen). The course I usually play is short (6-6300 yds), so I do not hit as many long irons as others; my opinions might change if I had to. With the 5i down I find the forgiveness acceptable, the trajectory just right, the action on the green just fine. The long irons are easier to hit than some perimeter weighted clubs I've tried, but this is a weak part of my game, so I am not the best person to say. I do hit this 3i better than any I have played. In sum, I think you have to select clubs that work for your course; most people have trouble translating their game to another (stronger) course. These are beautiful clubs and they perform well for me. I am promiscuous with my golf clubs, however, and always looking for a sweeter match. In the last three years I have not found it.

No offence intened, but out of the last 10 reviewers, 9 shoot in the 80's or worse. You say they have great feel etc, but don't you realise the reason you shoot in the 80's plus is because they ARE too good for you. I'm a 4 hcp, and regularly shoot around 71 - 73, but I know blades of any sort are not for me. I'm a fairly good ball striker and do not get my scores from having a great short game, but I know my hcp would go up if I used an all blade set. I have a combination set, and the short irons are blades and they are very nice, but do yourselves a favour and get some help with your 3 - 6, your scores will improve.

Shoots in the 90s
Model Reviewed: Mizuno 14

I have been playing the 14s for the past two years and loved them. I shot in the low 90s and can sometime shot in the high 80s. This year I decided to get a club that better fit my ablility. I wanted to stay with Mizuno because like their product. So I went to a golf store and spoke with a golf "pro" able finding a set of golfs that fits my ability. I was told that the MP 30s and the MP EZ Combs would work better for me. I played the MP 30s for a month and was shoting in the 100s. I then played the EZ combs for 3 months and also shoot in the 100s. I finially went back to my MP 14s and my last two rounds when 90 and 87. Even though my shot in the consistently in the low 90's, I hit the 14s better than many club I have played. I can not believe I wasted four months on different clubs because I was told the 14s were too advance for me. I love the feel of the clubs, the ball flight, and the weight of the clubs.

Great club. The club is one of the nicest forged clubs i have ever hit. It goes through the turf like there is nothing there. When it is struck purely you don't even know that you have hit the ball. Isuggest that you take a divot with them so you hit them pure. Also when you do this the ball takes off nice and high. Some negatives about it is that if you don't hit it well it will not go the distance that you want it to. You should only buy this club if you are below a 15 handicap. Not for a golfer who plays once a week. You will need to put some practice into hitting them. otherwise it is a great set of irons and suggest getting a set.
