Nickent Golf 3DX Irons

Nickent Golf 3DX Irons

DESCRIPTION

The idea is to make an efficient, integrated hybrid iron set that would get rid of the large gap between the 4-hybrid and the 5-iron. The result is a ball flight that matches your current long iron, but that soars 20-25 yards further.

Sorry, but if a company advertises this as the longest iron and it isn't...criticism is well justified.

Sure, any decent player can adjust to the characteristics of most anything offered by the manufacturers today, but that's not the point.I agree with the previous reviewers, this is a decent mid-priced set of irons nothing more, nothing less. About a half club shorter than my previous set (Wilson Deep Red II). Surprisingly decent stock wedges come with the set I bought, good shafts but lousy (and mismatched)grips.

Nuff said.

I bought this set on a whim after I was having some trouble making consistent contact.

First off, who cares about all the hype with how the company lofted them. Hit 'em, figure out the distance for each, and adjust accordingly.

Second, with the generous offset, you may find yourself drawing them a bit much. If you are a slicer, you will probably hit it straight. If you hit it straight, try lining the ball closer to the toe and focus on hitting the inside 3rd of the ball. This caused a nice high ball flight with a mild left to right (i am a lefty) draw. The stop and spin on the short irons is noteworthy.

Third. I got them for under a hundred bucks, and i pulled my cobra S9's from the bag the same day.

'nuff said.

This is a good solid set of irons. Moderate topline, and sole width with some offset make for a forgiving but workable irons 6-P. Don't buy buy into any of the hype about these being the longest irons though, they are no longer than any other modern set of irons I have tried. The hybrids are an acquired taste and not nearly as good as my Adams Boxers.

Customer Service

None whatsoever. Company has never responded to any emails I have sent them requesting assistance with a defective 7 iron-shaft is same length as my 8 iron.

I golfed 10 years ago with some old wilson's. I eventually hit low 90's and then life got in the way. I started playing again and was hitting 100's with rental clubs or buddy's clubs. I bought a set of Nickent 3DX Hybrids and hit them long and straight. I get 175 yds out of the 3 hybrid with a very LOW powered swing. My game has improved greatly and still getting better. I am now hitting 200 yds and more with only slightly more power! Everybody at the course asks about them and are amazed....nice investment. I bought them at a local pro shop in Guam.

Customer Service

No problems yet, but the pro shop said service is great.

I bought these at the beginning of the season and I love them. I'm not a long hitter and these clubs help me get good distance with a nice, easy swing. I can work the ball with them, hitting a slight draw or fade when need be, but their real value is that it is easy to hit a straight ball with them. They are forgiving and mis-hits get good distance and generally stay in play. My confidence in my iron play has gone through the roof with these, as I know that if I take a divot and swing through the ball will go, go, go.
The hybrids are easy to hit, too, and are nice alternatives from the tee on tight holes.
My ball flight with these is a little lower than with my old TA3's, which is due to the stronger loft, I'm sure, as well as my switch to the stack and tilt this season. I get good run with them which helps on my linksy course with lots of open greens, but the higher lofted clubs do tend to get up and stick.
These clubs are pretty, too, with a sole that isn't garishly thick and a topline to match, and only slight offset. They aren't exceedingly light either, despite the graphite shaft, which I like because it lets me know where the clubhead is at all times. If you're looking for game-improvement irons these are a great value, easy to hit, and pretty. I recommend them heartily.

Model Reviewed: Nickent 3dx hybrid iron set

I'd bought a set of Reg. flex 3dx's on Ebay for $199 - great value! I found that the 3 and 4 hybrids with their strong lofts, are easy to use and hit much longer than the type of distance one would expect from a good 3 or 4-iron. They feel quite heavy and they look more like fairway woods and will give the average golfer a distance which would be closer to their 3 and 4 fairway woods. So, there is a large gap between the 4-hybrid and the 5-iron in this set. However, this gap can be bridged by buying the optional 7-hybrid wood as this will give golfers a distance similar to a standard 7 fairway wood. I'm not quite sure why the irons in the set are called hybrids, as they have fairly narrow soles and large faces. The irons in the set, from the 5-iron down, feel very light compared with the 3 and 4 hybrids and are not as forgiving as other "game improvement" irons. Nickent claim that their tests have shown that the 5-iron is "the longest in the world" - maybe that's true if you make a perfect strike in the middle of the face and this is only because the 5-iron has the loft of a "strong" 4-iron in other sets. However, teir test data did prompt me to try the Adams A2, which came 2nd in their tests.

One point I'd like to mention is that the set I have, was originally fitted with Winn V-17 grips - what lousy grips ! These grips wear out very quickly and also tend to feel too smooth. I got in touch with Nickent and they informed me that they've stopped using Winn and now they use Lamkin gips - a wise decision. I've had similar poor wear and soiling problems with my putters, since Winn appear to have "cornered the market" for putter grips, with their bright colours.

Customer Service

Good response to my e-mails.

I shoot in the 80's and 90's (mostly in the 90's now). Anyhow, I picked-up a set of these when I was having trouble with my game after reading reviews of how easy they were to hit. I've tried them a few rounds and a couple of range sessions and they are not easy for me to hit at all. I've played game improvement clubs and "players" cavity backs and these Nickent irons are the most difficult for me to hit. Can't seem to get clean contact on the ball. I do like the 3 and 4 hybrids though.

First off let me say that I score any where from 87 to 93 on a given day. I play 2-3 times a month, and I dont get out to practice much. the 3dx hybrids are by far the easiest clubs I have ever hit. The distance added from these clubs are as advertised. I solidly hit my seven iron 155-160 on a calm day. I hit my nine iron two days ago 130. With the loft that these clubs generate I was surprised at the distance. I thought that ball was never going to come down. I was sitting 120 from the pin and it was easily ten yards past the hole.

The one thing to remember with these clubs is that you do not have to generate huge SS to get distance. A nice even swing with these will do the job easily. I have yet to really use the hybrids that much, but when I do i find them to be accurate and longer than expected. Twice I have over hit the green from 190 yards. So the hybrids do work well, but I rarely find myself in those situations where I actually need to use them.

I paid 250 dollars from Arizona Golf Exchange. I live in Tucson so I visit them on occasion, but I know they have a high reputation on Ebay also.

Model Reviewed: Nickent 3DX Hybrid Irons

I bought these irons on ebay for $199 primarily for the two hybrid/fairway clubs. It was actually about the same price to buy the whole set.

The two hybrid/fairway clubs are the best I have ever hit - period. They are long, straight, and I think anyone that hits them will simply remove all woods with exception of their driver.

The set comes with a 3 and 4 hybrid/utility. I'll refer to them as hybrids, but they are really a morph of a fairway wood and a hybrid. They even look it. I hit the 4 hybrid today from 220 and put it 15 feet right of the hold (wind behind me). The three has a 15 degree loft - the four I believe is 18. They go quite a further primarily due to stronger lofts than the typical 3-4 hybrids which are typically 21 and 24 degrees. These clubs are dead straight. My snap hooks have been eliminated. I still get a hook on a badly hit club. The shafts are a little shorter than a fairway wood.

In any event, not only do these hybrids go a mile, they are accurate. I'm a pretty good ball striker, and I often prefer to hit a 3 iron from the tees - not anymore. These clubs are in the bag for good.

Several people noticed the irons at the course. After playing 18 holes they all wanted to see the hybrids. AWESOME.

Regarding the irons - All of my clubs I have hit the past 3 years are neutral. As my scores got lower, I got good enough to hit it straight or draw the ball - with an occasional intentional slice.

If you like forged blades/cavity backs or "players" irons, you will find these clubs somewhat less than desireable. That being said, I believe about 85% of golfers out there (possibly myself) may be better off with these.

This is a matched set of clubs that is designed to give you consistent distances between all clubs.

Nickent has solved this problem, even if they had to do so by altering club lofts. For example the 5 iron has the same loft as a traditional 3 iron. Nickent claims that this club is the longest 5 iron ever made - hitting an average of 207 yards. Well, I can't hit it 207 yards, but I can hit it 190+.

The key point here is that the 4 hybrid hits about 210 and the 3 about 220. These clubs will take some getting used to. Here is how it works for me.

3 Hybrid 215
4 Hybrid 205
5 iron 195
6 iron 180
7 iron 165
8 iron 150
9 iron 135
10 iron 120
PW 110

For the first time, I have a predictable distance for each club - assuming I hit it well. The genious of the irons has to do with the 10 iron. The ten iron is really a 44 degree PW - the PW itself is a 48 degree iron. That's right a pitching wedge that has the same loft as traditional PA. That means you can use your standard 52 GW, 56 SW, 60LW and have everything from 60 to 215 covered.

After several rounds, you will have the same consistency with your distances being either shorter or longer depending on how you hit.

My ego says I have to go back to my forged cavity backs, the math above tells me I need to use these. I am going to let my scorecard decide, and I am committed to giving these irons a legitmate try (at least 10 rounds).

I agree these clubs are great for everyone needing extra distance; however, I think these might be the best clubs for just about everyone that doesn't do this sport for a living.

As far as the hybrids go, even the pros are starting to use these two clubs. Nickent hit a homerun with the hybrids - even if the irons are prettier. $199 on ebay - the best deal out there one new clubs - period.

Model Reviewed: 3DX Hybrids

I purchased the 3DX Hybrids in August/06. The 3 and 4 are the hybrids and the 5 through 10, yes a 10, and PW are irons. I have the regular flex 65 gram graphite shafts. I have a neck injury and I'm very careful with how I swing - I certainly don't swing to kill the ball. I have always played from the blues but thought those days may be over. A God-send - these clubs are long, the graphite shafts are light and they protect my neck-no impact gets transferred back through my arms to my neck. The clubs set up at address really nice, a slight offset, you do seem to notice the loft looks strong only in the 5 iron but it is also easy to hit. You can work the ball when you have to (fade and draw) and I use a bump and run every chance I get and these clubs are easy to judge. I shoot in the very low 70's consistantly. I've read reviews (other sites) from individuals who have never hit these clubs call them good only for the high handicapper- well I have a 2.4 handicap and these clubs do everything I need them to do including breaking par. I paid just over $500. Canadian for the set - half, more than half, the price of some other brands. These are premium clubs, great quality, workmanship and engineering. They are also easy on the eyes. Whatever level of game you play, these won't disappoint. I'm just a retired guy who loves the game and for what it's worth - I highly recommend these clubs.

Customer Service

I bought mine off the rack and have not had a problem, but my buddy had his custom fit from the company - they said his clubs and driver would be ready in 2 weeks and 2 weeks to the day they were ready - absolutely beautiful -exactly as ordered. Nickent -from what I can tell is a first class golf company.
