Ping S58 Irons

Ping S58 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The tour-proven technology of the Ping S58 iron elevates the feel and performance of a smaller, traditional head. The ball fight and distance control preferred by players seeking to compete at the highest levels is achieved through strategic placement of the center of gravity (CG) further back in the long irons and moved forward in the short irons. This results in a slightly higher trajectory in the long irons and a more penetrating, controlled ball flight in the shorter irons. The dual cavity design of the Ping S58 iron combines with a vertical stabilizing bar to enhance feel by positioning the CG towards the center of the face. The width of sole increases inertia and moves the clubhead smoothly through the turf and rough. A thicker cavity near the toe and a thinner cavity closer to the heel moves the center of gravity away from the hosel toward the center of the face for a solid feel. A thin top line and progressive offsets aid in alignment and inspires confidence.

After using Ping eye2's for the longest time, and wanting a blade style club for increased workability, I switched to Ping I10's two years ago and the S58 this year. This club is a considerable improvement over the I10 model, which feels dead in comparison. Not quite as sweet as a Mizuno blade when struck perfectly, but not as harsh and more forgiving on slight mis-hits. Great balance of blade feel and workability, but with some forgiveness

Best PING player's club ever designed. Why do you think Titleist AP1/AP2's look like the S58's? The reason is, PING figured out a way to design a club that looks great at address, can work the ball either way and most of all, it's super forgiving. Ralph Maltby gives this club an MPF rating of 780 pts. Good luck finding them on Ebay.

Got refitted after a winter's worth of lessons to overhaul my swing. I found out that my purple dot i10s were too upright and too long. Instead of sending them in to Ping to get bent, I traded them in and got a used set of brown dot s58s heads on eBay and then reshafted then with True Temper Lite XLs. Good choice.

Index is down to 9.8 but I still hesistated at first before getting these, as I worried that I still might not have enough game to play these "blade style" Pings. No worries. These visually are very similar to the Eye2s and i10s I have played, but with significantly less offset and thinner top line than either. The feel of these clubs is just great - noticeably better than any of the other Pings I have tried, and to my very pleasant surprise, they are much more forgiving than I would have expected.

Also, even though the lofts were strengthened 1 degree by the previous owner of these clubs, I am hitting long, towering long irons. I bought 20 and 23 degree Adams hybrids with thoughts of replacing my i10 long irons, but with this s58 set, I'm hitting the 3 and 4 so well and so consistently that I'm more than likely gonna put them both back in my bag. As for the short irons, no balloon balls, just a nice moderate flight with good workability and, again, GREAT feel with pitches and chips. Long iron length/height and short game feel with the short irons set these Pings apart from any others I've tried.

Overall, this is a great club not only for the low single digit handicapper but also for any ~12 hcp and below looking for a club that is a nice compromise between the forgiveness of a traditional cavity back and the feel/workability of a forged club.

Awesome.

I bought a full set of S 58 Irons as a result of scoring a hole-in-one at Ojai Valley Inn (yes, number 16!) during a tournament and received a cash settlement as the prize awarded didn't pan out. Any way, I love these irons! My first real full set of brand spanking new clubs!! I'm a full Ping-Pup as everything I have in my bag is of Ping make except for my Scotty Cameron. Anyway, I'm pissed that there's no merchandise with the S58 logo to be found. I even called Ping directly wondering if maybe the line was being discontinued. I was informed that no, the line was still being produced and they would get back to me regarding the merchandise and have yet to hear from me.

I played in high school and college, and quite a bit of tournament golf over the years. 3.2 index. After turning 50 the dynamic gold S300s started hurting and feeling a little heavy. I tried Ping I-10s but had very little feel, and too much off-set. Tried the S58s and they felt very solid. Th Z-Z65 shaft is just the right weight for me, and flights the ball lower which is great for the windy conditions in which I play. My basic shot shape is a draw, but you can cut them also. If you're looking for a blade-style with a little forgiveness and a little lighter overall weight try them. You won't be disappointed.

I'd put my iron game up against anyone's. In other words, read on because this is a review worth your time. I took these sticks to the range. I hit it high, I hit it low. I hit a fade and then a hook 10 seconds later. I could do whatever I want, which is not rare for my game. However, I did not like the feel compare to, say, the Wilson fg-17 or Mizuno MP-32. It doesn't feel like a Ping Eye 2 either. It just feels...a little hard shall we say? It is because of this that I cannot in good faith provide a rating of 5. I give it a 4. I think there are superior products out there. Since I'm a superior player, I should have the best.

They did not take my criticism well. I did talk to Mr. Solheim for awhile about one of my new concepts. I believe he was eating a Wendy's triple at the time.

If you like blade style irons- you are going to love the Ping S58 (and they will last a long time)...Not quite the same feel but you get the same trajectory and feedback form these...Easy adjustment from blade irons....Highly recomend these for good ball strikers that like to work the ball--Not typical cast irons-no ballooned shots with these- easy to predict ball flight !!!!! Maybe a little more forgiving than typical baldes but not much...Distance is nothing to brag about but decent...The Ping I15 driver is the real deal if your miss tends to be in the left rough...This is my 2 cents....

What can I say about these clubs but AWESOME !! I have now converted to Ping and sold off my Taylormade TP Forged Irons today. The S58 offers a consistant ball flight and the dispersion is to be seen and I can now go at the pin more frequently with this club.I am now going on the launch monitor to get fitted for the Ping i15 Driver and then I'll sell off my Taylormade R7 Limited. I have always been long in my shots but now I can add more flight consistancy and bring down my handicap from a 11 to a single digit soon.

Customer Service

Have not needed to have them offer their service which I hear is second to none.

I play the Ping s58's in a black dot and have the 4 iron through wedge in my bag. I love them. They are easy to work, easy to hit straight, and feel and look like a traditional players club. The "muscle-back" style and the weight of the club force you to finish every shot and their superior feel allow you to know exactly how you missed when you do. Trajectory and distance are good as well.
Great for the mid to low handicap golfer that likes to shape shots and likes the feel of a blade. I like the fact that they will last as long as Ping's do because I now know that I won't have to buy another iron set before I am 50!
