Model Reviewed: Ram FX Tour Grind Muscle Back Blades (Nickel)

Earlier this year, I made a grave golfing mistake. I SOLD these irons that I loved so much! Due to family obligations and my schedule at work, golf was to take a back seat. So, I decided to go with a set of cavity backs (Top-Flite Tour Titaniums, excellent!) because without being able to play often, the extra forgiveness would be a bonus.

Well, one unexpected schedule change later, and I was on the course as much as I would have liked.... yearning to have my beloved Rams' back.

I took my time, and finally found a brand new set for $245 w/shipping on ebay. They just arrived today and I immediately took them to the range. I just wanted to echo my sentiments from last year's review.... These are the best, most forgiving, and rewarding set of blades that I've ever played.

Admittedly, I'm an equipment junkie. I seem to always want to try out whatever catches my eye. Of course, it's almost never necessary because what I have is just fine. But that said, mark my words....

"I WILL NEVER GET RID OF THIS IRONS AGAIN! EVER!!!!"

I bought these irons to give me more feedback than my Ping ISI's. They have a great look at set up and easy to line up. They do require more consistent ball striking ability. These clubs are giving me the feedback I needed to work on my game. I can always go back to these clubs to find flaws in tempo and alignment. Pricewise, i couldn't find a better deal to suit my purpose. Low handicappers would appreciate the play of this club more than I could. Overall, I hope to be dialed in with these clubs someday so I can play blades strictly for the workability required for the tree-lined courses of Georgia

Awesome irons! Marginally more forgiving that previous RAM blade models. The Startus Sensicore shaft works better than I anticipated. The sand wedge performs better than Cleveland or Vokey. Sorry to see Teardrop acquire RAM. Slucker (Teardrop CEO) is clueless when it comes to traditional irons.

Customer Service

Teardrop's customer service is basically non-existent. The folks that ""man"" the phones are basically useless and arrogant to boot.

I demand great feel along with accuracy from my clubs along with straight simple lines. When striking a ball with these irons I can tell you exactly where it is headed before looking up. The Ram lines have always delivered the performance I require at a decent price. Get your hands on a set if you can, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend these clubs for high handicap playsers. Sliante!

I could not possibly say enough about these irons. They have the shot making qualities of the best blades but have a forgiveness factor more in line with perimeter weighted irons. I have these clubs with sensicore steel shafts. Between the shafts and the nickel composition of the irons, they have an incredibly soft feel yet are super solid at impact. Just as a previous rater stated, the weighting is excellent, you can tell where the clubhead is at all times. Smaller heads cut the the rough with ease and are very workable. A tremendous value with the performance FAR exceeding the price.

Customer Service

I've played Ram for a few years now. Their Customer Service was always top-notch. I hope nothing changes in that area with the Teardrop takeover!

Model Reviewed: RAM TG 898 Forged Blades

I've been a loyal RAM (now owned by Teardrop, I think) user and have been using their RAM FX Tour Grinds (cav backs & blades). This latest model, w/c I picked up off the net, continues the qualities of the old forged Tour Grind blades that I have been using for so long. Easy set up, great feel and extremely nice touch for greenside work. It is sad to see that this once good maker of forged clubs is currently in limbo. I hope they get to making them again. Their RAM FX Tour Grind of the mid to late 80s were, IMHO, one the best they made.

Customer Service

When RAM was still independent, I tried calling cust. serv about a couple of small issues but could not get a hold of anybody who could really help me. Tried writing but to no avail. Maybe it was during the acquisition. Oh well.

Model Reviewed: Ram Tour FX Nickle (forged)

Probably a good choice for a low-handicapper. The feel is soft, control is good (when I CAN control it) and setup is nice. The one draw-back for higher handicappers is that the forged blades are not quite as forgiving as the over-sized, perimeter-weighted cavity back irons. They're not bad though.
