Srixon I-506 Irons

Srixon I-506 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The new Srixon I-506 irons are as much pure craftsmanship as they are precision instruments for scoring. Forged out of soft 1025 carbon steel, these irons give the feedback and response that better players demand in their shotmaking, with all of the technology and forgiveness built into the Digital Impact Design. The beautiful, classic blade profile with a thin topline and minimal offset give the appearance of a traditional players club.

Purchased from a local pro shop two-and-a-half years ago brand new, never used, 3 iron through PW, standard lofts and lie as I'm 5'8" and have played of with muscle backs and blades off the rack my entire golfing life of about 59 years since the early '60s. This is the straightest club I have ever played and I have played with a lot, including those so-called "game improvement" clubs. Really, the only game improvement anyone needs is to learn the correct fundamentals and proper swing and work at it. I love the traditional look of the 506: the thin top line; flat, wider sole; very little offset; most of all, with the 3 and 4 irons you minimally see the back of the club when addressing the ball, which to me can be a huge distraction. Eye appeal is everything to me and this club has it all, including ball flight. I can't wait to try the new Z 745s when they hit the market in my area.

Customer Service

I had damaged my 6 iron with some scoring on the sole after a shot. I contacted Cleveland/Srixon customer service via email about a replacement head. A couple of days letter a get a response from a rep that unfortunately the club was and is out of production, but he provided me with an address where I could have the club repaired or refinished, so I was pleased with the quick response.

Making a return to golf after 25 years and wanted a quality set of forged irons, without the top end price tag. Bought these little beauties on e bay, second hand, for $250AUD. Needed to spend time at the range getting back into the groove, but these clubs are just fantastic. Distance and accuracy are quite extraordinary and the feel is complimented with that 'muscle' that only comes with forged irons.

Found a used set (5-PW)cheap and thought I might use them as a back up set. I've been playing Hogan Apex blades for 3 years and wasn't really looking for a change. The I506's are larger clubheads than the Hogans, but their simple and tradtional appearance at address is pleasing. It only took a few rounds to dial in the new distances for each club(gained 5-7 yds). I added a 50* gap wedge in order to cover the yardage gap between my PW and SW.
Instead of being a back up set, they're in the bag and the Hogans are in the closet.
There is an amazing amount of technology packed into these clubs that's hidden while at address. Traditional thin topline with minimal offset. I find the I506's long and very forgiving.
Appearance - Traditional in the playing position. In the bag they are good looking and show a hint of the technolgy packed inside.
Distance/workability - Consistent distances. Gained 5-7 yards per club due to the modern lofts. Can work the ball at will.
Accuracy/Control - I was concerned about the wider sole, but the reliefs seem to be in the right places. Tight hard pan lies were tough until I got used to them. Cut through rough easily. Good distance and spin control.
Feel - I'm addicted to the feel of forged clubs and these do not disappoint.
Not quite as soft as Hogans or Mizunos.
Quality/durability - Well made and very durable. I do keep them covered because they are forged and will ding easily.

Recommend for the player that wants some forgiveness but doesn't want to give up traditional looks and workability.

Customer Service

Contacted SRIXON on line customer service concerning a shaft issue and the getting a matching 4 iron. They were responsive but unfortunately I have to go through a dealer to get warranty or custom work done. A little inconvenient since very few Srixon dealers carry anything other than Srixon balls. I have yet to locate a Srixon equipment dealer. I've solved my issues without using a Srixon dealer. Hopefully with their recent acquistion with Cleveland more dealers will carry Srixon clubs.

I've used these for a year now and I'd put them right up there with Mizuno and Miura. I really appreciate how I can work the ball whether it be a fade, draw. The trajectory is exceptional. You definitely know when you've jucked one. Try them you'll like em.

I purchased these with the advice of our club pro. He fitted me and I'm very pleased.

I tried the 506 2 years ago at a demo day. It came down to the 506 or Ping S 58 out of all the irons I tried. I'm happy to say I got a set of Srixon 506. They are extremely consistent and have the feel of a true forged club.

The main attribute of these irons is their thin topline and high relative forgiveness (probably stems from the wide, yet manageable sole).

Manageable ball flight; high and flat.

If you're on the brink of considering players irons, these will accomadate your ballstriking short comings and answer any shotmaking questions you ask of it as your progress as a golfer.

Recently replaced my Bridgestone J33 CB irons with the I-506 after testing and comparing 6-irons (Dynamic Gold R-300 shafts) side-by-side. Found the Srixon to be a bit more hefty in feel than the Bridestone model. Set up at address is appealing with a slight hint of offset, particularly in the longer irons. Lamkin Crossline grips are the stock grip.

The I-506 has technology written all over it as well as craftmanship. It features a more radical cavity-back design than the J33 CB which helps produce a consistent ball flight and spin rates throughout the set. This computer-aided design results in a penetrating trajectory with no hint of balooning, a problem I had with the Bridgestone, especially on thin hits. Knockdown shots with these blades are a joy to play. They are forged, which means great feedback at impact, and play almost a full club longer than the J33 CB.

The heel-and-toe relief sole grind is similar to what you see on Bridgestone's J33 sand wedge line, although the sole is quite wide when compared to the J33 CB. In spite of this major difference, the I-506 lends itself well to tight turf and the player who approaches impact on a shallow plane.

Although not a household name when it comes to irons (TaylorMade, Titleist, and Mizuno own that distinction) the Srixon I-506 is a sleeper for anyone searching for a great looking cavity- back that provides stability, feedback, a good amount of forgiveness, and a consistent, easily controlled ball flight. With pricing almost cut in half at some retail outlets and even lower on E-bay, you owe it to yourself to check these out.

Great irons. Excellent distance; soft in the touch of the ball. Great stability in the flight of the ball and stability in the direction. Optimal shaft (Nippon). It absorbs the vibrations very well. Great feeling.
