Model Reviewed: R7 CGB IRONS (Steel - Stiff Flex)

I currently play off a 9 handicap and use the Taylor Made RAC LT II irons.

They are great irons and perform well providing I practice and play every week.

Lately I havent had the time to do that so I have been shopping around for an iron that is extra forgiving and long for those times when I have missed a week or two of golf - which of late is happening more and more due to work and home commitments - that can "carry me" until I get my swing back into the groove.

I tried the RAC OS2,R7 XD, Callaway X18 and the Ben Hogan BH5 - all went okay but nothing stood out.

I then saw the R7 CGB irons.

I had always thought that these irons were the cheapest Taylor Made model targeted at the "bunny" (or beginner) golfer - until it was explained to me by the Pro that these are in fact the most technically advanced and most expensive irons that Taylor Made had ever made.

I took the irons out onto the driving range and from the first ball I hit could not believe the performance, height, feel and distance of these irons.

They absolutely blew everything else out of the water - not only were they more forgiving and felt better than the RAC 0S2s, R7XDs, Callaway X18s and the Ben Hogan BH5s, they also went at least 1 club longer - yet still had the same ball flight height as the others.

These irons - to me - where the "holy grail".

I now have the irons on order and should receive them in about 2 weeks - I will keep you posted on their performance.

I think they are great irons for any handicapper, including single figure, who are looking for a good looking cavity back iron packed full of technology, forgiveness, distance and ease of use.

And - hey - isnt that want golf is all about - making it EASIER rather than harder?

Congratulations Taylor Made on a superb iron - a pity that they are so expensive - otherwise there would be alot more people trying them out and falling in love with them like I have.

R7 CGB MAX irons 3-SW, Graphite Reg shaft: Best looking, longest, straightest irons I've ever had. Very forgiving, they hit as easy as any hybrid. You need to adjust what club to use because these clubs hit 5-10 yards longer than my Ping G2s. The R7 CGB MAX irons are very light and a nice easy swing gets the best results. Only drawback is the price but the performance is worth it!

TaylorMade customer service is always very helpful.

Best set of Irons I have ever played. I have had to readjust what clubs I was using because they hit so much farther for me. I have the stiff steel shafts of the clubs. I use to hit my 6 iron to 150 yard and now I have to use the 7. I also now use my sand wedge for anything less than 100 yards. The feel for me is great, the ball explodes off the face (Nike PD's long) And I am able to control them better and more accurate. I went from mid 90's to the low 90's to high 80's so I am very pleased with these, And the looks of these clubs are a plus also.

First off I am going to say I am not crazy about these Irons, they are not for me.I had a set for about a month and played 6 rounds with them.I prefer a smaller blade that has more feel and feedback. With that being said they are also extremely easy to hit and the ball shoots off the face like a rocket and the distance is amazing at least one more club than my old ones.If you are a begining to medium hdcp player by all means go out and get these clubs they will improve your game, but for me I will stick to a more traditional club with more feel.

I really do not understand someone who gives bad reviews to clubs that are not built for them.

This is a Super Game Improvement Iron set engineered for peoples who ask maximum forgiveness and still good look at address. Most players irons are cromed and shiny and this it is in no way a negative detail. These irons have been defined the most handsome of a group of well renowed iron sets by Golf Digest magazine and true to the fact very technologically advanced to be defined at the top of the category.
I have been using this set of irons for 2 months (I have another Taylor Made XD set) and I can confirm that at least 10 strokes have been cut down from my game.
They are easy to hit, they produce a good sound (for a set with Graphite shafts) and the distance is fairly increased compared to other sets used in the past. But the most important thing is that when I hit the ball with these irons, I hit it straigh 8 times on 10! The increased loft does not create any problem as I bought this set from 4 to PW and including AW which is basically a typical 3 to PW iron.

Obviously anybody swing type is different and irons should be tryed before purchasing. This is an expensive set though, but where at the pro shop where I bought them, they allowed me the opportunity to purchase it customized to my requirements and iron by iron so if you have 2 resque clubs in your bag you may just purchase 6 irons and save the extra cost of the 3 and 4 irons which amateurs should avoid to use.

I have been trying few Taylor Made sets and I have purchased 2 sets that have made my game better and my score fell down very much.

I tried r7 CGB irons on TM trial day in Bangkok Thailand. This set gives me almost 20% more distance one reason is that every club is delofted to degree lower than standard. They are pretty solid when you find the sweetspot. when I set up with these clubs, I can regain the feeling of good swing. When I hit it fat, I can still reach the front of the green while other clubs bring my ball to nowhere. I plan to buy it when my financial is ready. Please try and you will see you can upgrade to the level you've never reached before.

Disappointed with these irons. Stylish enough, but too shiny for me, and the steel on the clubface has a pale color that is unattractive. When hit in the sweetspot, they give a distinctive 'click' sound from the hollow back, and they do go pretty far - as long as you hit them well. I really didn't see the forgiveness they promised, and off-center hits felt quite clanky. Nowhere near the solid feel of my previous TM OS2s. The main thing for me was that the entire club felt way too light with not very good balance - felt like I was swatting at the ball with a straw. The strong lofts were visually distracting for me and produced less forgiveness. Perhaps this club was just not built for my type of play - even though my swingspeed is average and my transition is smooth.

These are wonderful irons. The hyper-lite shafts weight is 55grams. Distance is the longest of any irons I have ever hit.

The ball jumps off the face with so little efford on your part. Mis hits are very forgiving.

I purchased the 4 - LW set. Had the # 4 iron loft adjusted down 1 degree to 20 degrees which in effect is a 3 iron. The pitching wedge is 44 degrees. This set is very strong.I am hitting the 4 iron 195 yards from the ground. Swinging only 85%.

The appearence is very pleasent, as is the set up at address. I highly recomand these to any golfer.

Had no trouable working the ball. Draws easy to bring off.

Customer Service

Had no problems getting these fitted, or any problems with customer service.
