I have used three different types of irons in the three years that I have been playing. These clubs have been Nike, Callaway, and Taylormade R7 draws. I recently tried a set of Taylormade xd and was very impressed with the results. These clubs do not require much of an effort to hit. Every shot goes straight and the distance is very impressive. I will be purchasing a set of these clubs shortly.

First of all, I am a Beginner Golfer; (Golfing for about 1 1/2 years now), and have read many reviews on different clubs and decided to go with the TaylorMade R7 XD Irons. I purchased them from EBay for 390 dollars (with shipping)and could not be happier. First of all, as a beginner, you read many different distances on the iron sets; so here are my stats for the season as follows:
4 Iron 21 Degree Loft @ 195 Yards
5 Iron 23 Degree Loft @ 180 Yards
6 Iron 26 Degree Loft @ 165 Yards
7 Iron 30 Degree Loft @ 150 Yards
8 Iron 34 Degree Loft @ 135 Yards
9 Iron 39 Degree Loft @ 120 Yards
Pitching Wedge 44 Degree Loft @ 105 Yards
Sand Wedge 54 Degree Loft
Lob Wedge 59 Degree Loft @ 60 yards
As a beginner and not too much of a "power hitter", I hit the aforementioned yards pretty consistant with these clubs with a nice swing (not too hard or over powering ang not too soft!).
I love the feel of these irons (after yor re-grip them); the original grips are slippery so I re-gripped them with Winn Soft Grips. The clubs give a great feel, response and do loft mid to high in the air. The clubs also make a unique sound when well hit....not a dink or a pink, but rather a "splink!!!". Off hits still go rather straight for me and tend to slightly fade or draw instead of an actual slice or hook as my other set did; thus these irons are very forgiving. Even off-hits still travel the average distance of a good hit which I found hard to believe!!! I highly recommmend these clubs since they seem to be consistent wih hitting distance, have a great feel and are weighted well, offering a golfer a great swing, feel, and are very forgiving. I attribute these clubs for getting me to an 88 average as a beginner at the end of this season; (I also had numerous lessons and hit the driving range 2 to 3 times a week!!!), but all in all, these clubs (I believe) have helped more than other clubs would have! I have even noticed that i am out-hitting other players I golf with (although not intentional and by no means a contest; it is just that iron for iron these clubs go further and are easier to hit than others. My guess is at my stage, by one whole club length; thus for those of you who are intermediate and above, try these irons out, I am sure you won't be disappointed and will probably have even better results than I.

Great set of irons. I have been using them for about one year. Easy to hit. Even the mis-hits go straight. I like the high trajectory and the long distance. Not the greatest looking set of irons eg thick topline but who cares. The results are what counts. Highly recommend them.

I have now owned these irons for 4 months and have to say they were worth every cent. The xd really does stand for extra distance since i now hit my pitching wedge 150 yards! I've always been a longer hitter but being able to choose a 7 iron instead of a 5 iron from 190-200 yards out has given me an advantage at going for pins. The only thing i needed to do was buy a gap wedge and now my yardages are perfect. Thank you Taylormade.

I've been playing these irons over a year which is no small feat for me. These were everything I thought I disliked about iron heads, i.e. thick top-line, offset and oversized head. But the performance is outstanding. I regained the distance lost due to age and other problems. I know about the strong lofts, etc. but really don't care. They are accurate, too. Tried just about everything else and these are keepers

I purchased the R7XD set with regular graphite shafts. These clubs are very forgiving, and quite easy to hit straight. At first, I didn't like the thicker topline of the clubheads or the bulky look of the head at address, but after 2-3 rounds, I got used to it, and I may never go back to "better player irons".

OK...I'm not going to rave about the distance that these irons hit the ball, since the strong lofts are probably what's responsible (26* on the 6-iron). But the height that you get on a well-struck ball, offsets the strong lofts. So now, I've found that I can get a 5-iron to fly high and land softly on longer par 3s, whereas before, a 3 or 4-iron from my old set would end up rolling off of the green.

My eBay seller had already regripped this set with Golf Prides, and you'll probably want to regrip your XDs as well, as the stock TM grips get quite slippery.

*I'm giving these clubs a "4" for Value Rating, as they can be quite expensive if purchased new. However, if you can find a used set for 3-4 hundred (in good condition), get it!

I just bought these clubs after using nike slingshot knock-offs. These irons will add 10-15 yards on your shot and it is very forgiving on your mis shots. They are very easy to control and at impact they feel great.
