I'm another club junkie and have been happy with Cobra S2s shooting in the low 80s. Thought I'd try these old Titleists I had lying around and my first rounds were 79 and 75. I haven't shot 75 since I was 20 (I'm currently 70). They have A-flex graphite and require a slower swing speed but they're easy to hit, are consistently accurate with dependable length. If I could putt I'd be dangerous.

I've had these irons since 1999 and have used them many times and have wondered how they compare...after reading some of the reviews I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get new shafts and grips...I'm hitting the sweet spot more often now than ever before and results are making me a happy golfer.

the first few weeks with these clubs were outstanding. length, height and accuracy all came as standard. then for a period of about 6/7 months i couldn't hit them at all and felt like i had only just taken up the game. however a few tweeks to my swing (mostly slowing it down) proved to be answer. the 981sl seem to work alot better at a slow to medium speed swing. i can now strike the ball as well as ever (if not better) and the confidence i have with these will not be matched by any other club. SUPERB!!!!!

Love hate relationship with the 981SL. Had it for about 6 years now, and contemplated about selling them even after the 2nd year. Had it reshafted to NS Pro steel from its original Riffle 5.5. It improves playerbility and feel tramendously. Very satisfying when hitting solid though rarely. Highly frusterating on a bad day. Yet I believe it's a hell of a ood club.

I''ve been searching quite awhile for the "right" irons for me. I needed to be more consitent, and at my age hit irons a little farther. I''ve tried other major brand name clubs, and some not so famous without much success for quite some time. I took a chance, and bought these from a friend at the course. The surprising thing is, these irons have forced me to tighten up my swing, thus almost negating the need for extra distance these irons provide. The sweet spot on these clubs is a little smaller, but the rewards are huge. I feel nothing when I''ve hit a good shot, and I feel everything when I make a clunker swing. That''s a good thing for most golfers I think. The Titlist DCI 981 SL irons definately are performers. There is a small down-side. Chipping around the green may be a little more touchy because of the decreased loft. I own a 3-SW set and generaly prefer a 56'' Cleveland Tour Action SW around the green. However, better technique would solve this problem. My set is graphite shafted which Arthur Itis really appreciates, and I have had the lie professionly adjusted to suit my stance at address. I highly recommend these clubs to any handicap below 15. In the bag: Pure Spin 10'' XXL Driver or Titleist 975D Orlimar Tri-Metal 4 wood Callaway 5 & 7 wood Titlist DCI 981 SL''s Cleveland Tour Action SW Odyssey Rossie II Handicap 5.7

It's really really really a nice clubs I have never used before. It's really very hard to describe my feeling when the club head hits the ball. Very solid, very comfortable. I can easily to control my club head to hit the ball in any conditions. My distance is now around 175 yards when using no. 7, before that, it's around 150. What a magic?? I'm really very lucky that I can finally have a set of clubs which are suitable for me. If you are still finding a iron set, please try. No need to thanks me if your handicap juump from 90 to 80.

I am a Golf Club junkie. Read all the magazine reviews, started with Mizuno T Zoid Sure(Steel shafts - regular) following recommendation by Nevada Bobs local store. Inconsistent hitter though pro tells me I have a good swing. Find I hit irons well but struggle with Woods. Bought Titleist DCIs(Black originals) without test purely on their reputation. Had more inconsistency than with Mizunos but when I connected well the accuracy was impressive. Decided to have 981SL to match my age(young 59) and swing speed(somewhere in the 80s). Had difficulty to start with until Pro corrected my swing then I hit everything I aimed at though my distance is modest - 7 Iron about 135 yards. When I do not feel the shot I know I'll hit what I've aimed at - when there's a clunk I'm off to the right side, but still good for 100 yards plus. Hit a 4 Iron 150 yards right into the green and five feet from the pin with a Sam Snead 'Loose as a Goose' shot the other day. My handicap is 28 and I guess at my age(only took up golf 2 years ago) I am unlikely to get through the teens but I do enjoy using these clubs and they discipline me to concentrate on my shot - or they punish me. They look good at address(tried some Callaways and they were uglier than my garden spade)but perhaps I should have opted for Graphite shafts at my tender age rather than the Tri-Spec Steel shaft that was recommended to me. Very good clubs but perhaps really for the 20 Handicapper, or less, with a moderate swing speed.
