Model Reviewed: MacGregor Bobby Grace DCT putter

MacGregor signed Bobby Grace to produce about 7 classically-styled Distance Correcting Technology putters. The inserts on the putter faces correct for the loss of energy on mis-hits toward the heel and toe by propelling the ball the same distance as a dead center strike. The technology actually works!

MacGregor made the clubheads in several styles - very common designs favored by the top players. There were Ping Anser-type blades and hosels, face-balanced Callaway Rossi-like models, a Ping B60 look-alike, and even a heel-shafted semi-mallet like Mickelson is fond of. They were named Lakewood, Sunset, Palma Ciea, Bellaire, Sanibel, Sarasota.

I use the Lakewood model, which is a style like the venerable Ping B60. Plumber hosel, slightly toe-down, non-reflective steel head with single sightline on large flange. I have tried hundreds of putters, and this is the most solid, consistent feel, top distance control, smooth-rolling flatstick I have found. It is not crazy live, it is not dead. It doesn't clink or ting, it doesn't clunk. It just delivers solid feedback and performance that covers for some of my poor strokes.

Customer Service

Golfsmith brought MacGregor, but Bobby Grace retained his patents and has a studio now in Floriday. The only way to obtain MacGregor Bobby Grace putters is in the aftermarket, where they can be purchased for about a third of original retail.
