Model Reviewed: Golwin AVDP Tour Irons

While the AVDP Oversize irons were made for the mid- to high-handicap (easy swing, very forgiving, slightly delofted), the Tour is a more traditional design (thinner topline, less offset, traditional lofts) and aimed at the low- to mid handicap. Working at a golf shop in the mid-90's, I tried both designs (as well as Berthas, 962s, original Bubble Burners and a few others), and got the best results with the AVDP Tours. Unlike a lot of cast clubs, the Tours have a very good feel striking the ball - impact is definite, and you can tell where the ball was on the face. The traditional lofts also make for a higher ball flight and softer landing, allowing me to shoot at the flag and have a chance (as much as my meager skills allow) at sticking the shot close. As I come up on ten years with these in my bag, I can honestly say no one has come out with a better club for my level of player (10-12 handicap) yet, though Nike is doing some interesting things that remind me of Goldwin in the day.

Customer Service

Unfortunately, Goldwin is long gone; fortunately, that means no one will have to deal with the long delays I had when waiting for my clubs. It took me close to a year to complete my set (woods, irons, wedges). That's probably what did Goldwin in at the end.
